Bottom line was whoever bought the 1st gen are the same iSheeps who don't care about this gamut-gate issue now. If you are truly smart with your money, you know the iPad mini is really not worth the price tag.

Assuming that since it is not worth the price to you, then it is not worth it to anyone. The very definition of arrogance.

I gotta say something about the iPad mini 1- That device is an absurd device to purchase:

1) Using an iPad 2 A5 processor in october 2012
2) Using 1024x768 - that was great back when iPad 1 was introduced to the world
3) 512MB ram is because they used the old A5 processor
4) They come out with 7.9" tablet when steve jobs said it sucks and maybe he was wrong but you know what, the numbers don't lie right?

Who are you to tell anyone what people should be spending their money on? Im sure if we looked through your bank statements we could find plenty of things that you bought to criticize. You are the same person who is ready to go out and buy other tablets that are inferior in various other ways. People pick their poison based on their personal wants and needs after all its their money. When you start paying their bills then you can comment on their spending habits. You really have some nerve.

Dude.. I'm not sure what nerve was struck, but.. let it go.

Dude, what IS your problem? Does it hurt you so that the Mini has been such a runaway hit? There's another article about the rMini also being a runaway hit. Why would I let it go?

You need to back off and go troll somewhere else. Yes pot. Calling me black is pointless.

It just seems like you've attached your personal identity to Apple products and are going to great lengths to protect them. Surely you must be winded by now, you've been at it all day.

Basically what I would have said.

Then you must not be paying attention.

Although I like Apple products in general, what I am taking exception to is the Apple hating. I don't need to protect their products. They protect themselves.

I'm sorry if you mistake my conviction for something else.

Christ. No one is Apple hating. We're all posting on an Apple forum, where I'm sure everyone that has posted in this thread has an Apple device. Voicing one's opinions =/= "Apple hating".

And where is the hate, exactly? Most of the threads on the retina iPad mini's display are expressing disappointment, not hate. They're not saying the retina iPad mini is garbage, just that the display gives them pause. Is there something wrong with expressing those opinions? And if you think the number of threads on the topic is excessive, why call attention to them by responding?

For me, the hate is how they are interpreting Apple's decision to value the mini's form—weight, size, battery life—over full color gamut. Soneira covered this last year, as I pointed out here in Post 19 on page one.

Certain non-rational people want to ignore this basic technical reality and attribute Apple's decision as protection for their margins. This is an inexcusable ignoring of the simple facts of the matter, therefore a matter of emotion, which I see as stemming from an anti-Apple hate complex.

Let's see you Goffs, Lucifers and Zbarvians deal with this on the level of logic.

Try's the MacRumors front page for starters. Giz, CNET, GigaOM, Pocketnow, PhoneArena.

Does anyone else find it puzzling that last week's hands-on reviews of the rMini on these sights all apparently failed to notice gamut issues. Now that the objective measurements are out, it's suddenly a different story, somehow.

Having said that, I find no arguement with those posting here who have found disappointment when looking at it themselves. Some are surely more perceptive than others. Just saying the reviewers all seemed to miss something that some posters here have found outrageous.

Interesting you cite Soneira, because in the oft-mentioned shoutout between the rMini, Nexus 7 2013, and Kindle Fire, he says it's inexcusable for Apple to not use a display capable of the sRGB gamut. He himself said it's disappointing, and that the technology to make it a reality was in place and "readily available." So all that's left is to debate motives. I am unwilling to consign myself to the cynical idea that Apple is doing this JUST for profit, that they are evil, though I definitely see the support for that argument and lean in that direction. But it might be bad planning, as Soneira says. Either way, it's not the first time Apple has done this, and we'll never know why.

All said and done, I love my rMini. It's a great tablet, and it offers an experience truly unlike any other on the market, an experience that I find myself very compelled towards. But the issue is real, it should be made known, and we have the right to complain. The problem doesn't seem to be an entirely technical limitation, and we paid the highest premium for what should be the highest end small tablet.

I wouldn't rush to call speculating on margins hate. It may very well have cost Apple more to put in a display on parity with the larger retina iPads, which would have cut into their profits more than we might have guessed. It wouldn't be my first guess, but it's not an unreasonable speculation given the teardowns of past Apple products. And even then, it's not the focus of the threads those posts are in. They're far more concerned with whether the retina iPad mini is worth its asking price.

And where is the hate, exactly? ...

Let me know if you need more examples.

"This is apple's way of gimping buyers of this new mini and you just wait, come 2014, apple will have a 3rd generation mini that will magically support the same color gamut as the iPad AIR…”

“... but the biggest problem I'm having is how apple is behaving these days. They intentionally do these sort of tactics when they could just give you the superior color gamut retina display in this form factor …”

“... I'm telling you now this is how apple does business, they dribble crumbs of features to implement one model at a time so you can come back and drink more of that delicious kook-aid. …”

“...I agree with him totally. Apple do take the p^^^ as they know people will buy...The "kool aid' is being cleansed from my body the more apple take liberties…”

“...Apple hates you thats why they do these things to you. You should stop buying their products at once. Dont let Apple treat you like dirt…”

“...Buyers should be aware of this and sure the title is a bit over the top dramatic, but it is what it is! Typical apple gimped selling tactics…”

“...apple will continue to produce subpar products, stamp a higher price tag on them and shove them down your pants and you will say thank you twice over…”

“...We seriously need to put our foot down and say NO to these tactics. These trickle updates year after year; next year they will throw you a bone and give you touchID as if it's magical…”

“...Old enough to know not to pull my pants down time after time when a new apple product is released! …”

I dont regret my mini 1 purchase at all.

Me neither. I was being sarcastic. :D

I found the reviews that didn't notice the gamut difference tended to compare the retina iPad mini to the previous generation iPad mini more than the iPad 3/4/Air or even the iPhone 5/5s. It makes sense since they're different product lines.

We're all incredibly perceptive when it comes to color recognition, more than many of us will ever be consciously aware. It's why home improvement stores have such precise instruments for matching paint colors to samples. You can always tell when something looks just a little off, but you might not always know why or what's causing it. For that reason, I don't dismiss anyone claiming they see the difference (I see it too, but I work with calibrated displays).

It makes one wonder how movies ever caught on.

I mean, they were black and white for decades and nobody batted an eyelid. Talk about reduced gamut!
