At the moment, here in Amsterdam (Netherlands) at the One Plus Pop Up Store there about 30/40 people in line. Store opens in about 3 hours from now.

I just saw Flossy Carter's first video (unboxing), now I am in doubt again (I turned from ''want one'' to ''nahhh...nevermind'') to pick one up here at the Pop Up store... I live about 10 minutes from that Store.

hmmm decisions...decisions ;)
Out of curiosity, what made you hesitate? I've had my doubts as well, but I'm still here in the line for the time being.

the rumours were AMOLED screen and maybe IP68, both not the reality.
After watching the presentation last night, I did not have a single *wow* feeling, far from it.
A lot of tech sites reviewing the new dual camera is a ''ok-camera''.
OnePlus hyped the camera hell of it the last few weeks....turned out that it is not that special.
I would have expected more from €500+

This OP5 is in no way a flagship killer (heck, add in another €50 and I can get a brand new S8), its just a snappy good phone. Nothing more special. And thats ok.
I really think OnePlus is losing (some/a lot?) their fanbase with these prices.

And still...I am in doubt to get one, when the Pop Up Store opens up in less then 3 hours here

How are the clouds doing overthere in Finland? ;)

The clouds evolved into a small thunderstorm, so luckily I had an umbrella :) The staff were also handing out rain ponchos to those who had nothing and now we're actually getting ice cream

Well, history repeats itself:
https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5-benchmark-cheating-reviews/

They did the same last year, and the year before. And I really can't understand why? OP3/T was the top performing Android device by far. Not in some synthetic benchmark tests, but in real life. And every youtuber/tech portal/magazine claimed so as well.

So why cheat? AGAIN? Samsung was caught doing the same, but since then they gave up on that. And it's not like you won't be discovered! XDA is pretty damn fast on stuff like that, as it is obvious.

As much as I really love their phones, I really hate OnePlus policies.

Agreed, that's totally unnecessary BS for OnePlus to do. The phone is fast in real world use, no need to pull stunts like this.

Concerning the dual-cameras on the OnePlus 5... Most of the reviews seem to say that only the main camera is worth using since the 2nd camera isn't really that great -- which means the "dual camera" feature isn't really much of an added bonus. I understand that it could maybe be fixed down the road in a software update, but that may or may not happen (and even if it does, how long might that take?).

Many of these reviews mention the Samsung S8 as being the (obvious) superior product. I think it's time I took a look at that phone, there are some great deals on it here in the U.S.

I don't think the device lived up to the hype either.

The thing that hurts me the most are camera hype and the lack of any sort of waterproofing. The s8 has spoiled me. And you know what? Yeah, the lack of a modern-looking front panel doesn't feel like it cuts it anymore in 2017.

The OnePlus 5 is still a fine option to the Android landscape.

I think this pretty much somes it up.

The OP5 is just another fine snappy Android phone; nothing more, nothing less. And not in any way a cheap (real) Android flagship killer.

update from the Pop up Store here in Amsterdam:

about 100 people in line (store opens in 2 hours) and they just told that they have 70 midnight black (128Gb) devices on stock.

Just 70!!! wow, a big fail, imho

Well, some of us really hate that weird aspect ratio of S8/G6. And there are also people who really dislike edge displays. They look great, I won't dispute that. But I really, really don't like them.

For me personally, the performance is the no1 criterium. And S8 lacks in that department, as do all of Samsung devices. And in that area, OnePlus beats even google pixel. I just wish OP5 had the Pixel camera, and that's about it :)

100%.

Sounds like the OP5 is the better option for you. I also respect the form factor of the device. It has smaller bezels than the Pixel XL, and is overall smaller and more ergonomic than the embarrassingly large iPhone Plus.

The camera sounds like it's just a tier below Samsung, Pixel, iPhone. If you can live with that, that's still a terrific option for you. Cheaper than HTC U11, which would be the other option if you want peak performance and a better camera.

Got my Midnight Black from the Helsinki pop-up. There were around 200 people despite it raining for the most of the time.

There were some freebies for everyone who bought a phone, namely a backpack, a free case, and a t-shirt. Just heading home to unbox mine

nice! congratz...looking forward to read your first thoughts later on today! :)

This is where I differ from a lot of S8 Plus owners: I think the screen is gorgeous but I don't love the design of the phone itself. ONce someone pointed out to me it looked like a universal remote, I can now not get that out of my head when I look at it. Then again, I've never been on the bezel-less train so these things are overstated for me. I'm fine with bezels.

Note on the camera: I have an iPhone 7 Plus and the second zoom in camera kinda sucks too. I much prefer LG's implementation of a second shooter on the back.

I used to love HTC. I still own HTC 10. I love their software tweaks and design. And most of all, I love their dialer app. Best dialer in the industry by far.

But in terms of performance, even though htc 10 is great, it is no where near OP3/T :(

P.S.
Camera doesn't play a major role when I choose a phone, and I really dislike phones that are shiny, glossy and made of glass, so HTC helped me to skip them this year around.

P.P.S.
And the HTC 10 is the best designed phone ever. To me of course. I really love the rugged and 'hard' metal feel that it has :)

Yeah that is my problem with the choice of camera system. I take lots of landscape and buildings in photos. There are times I need to capture an image in a confined space too, and the wide angle lens really offers a flexibility that simply is not attainable on regular lenses.

The meh 2x zoom and portrait modes offered by this, the iPhone 7+ and HUAWEI P9/10 really mean little extra benefit to me personally. Indeed the software in portrait mode of this, the 7+ and P9/10 only offers a modicum of improvement over traditional methods of faking bokeh as it's still reliant on software algorithms.

I really want more companies who opt for an extra lens to offer 'wide angle' rather than the current fashion.

Initial pics of the phone itself and the freebies that came with it. I also got some extra accessories such as the Dash car charger.

Really cool. That bag is pricy on the website so it looks like you got €100+ worth of freebies.

Let me know how it performs after you have it all set up. My OnePlus shopping basket is still active lol

You know, I keep reading that the G6's dual camera experience is the best out of the bunch. Kudos to LG.

Yeah, the S8 Plus is really tall. I love the ratio for my regular S8. I am a "small phone" guy so really appreciate the narrow-body and ergonomics for one handed use. I still can't believe it's smaller than the S7E.

I'd love to handle the OP5. I've read reviews saying it's very comfortable and ergonomic.

I think...I think I'm gonna order one and maybe play with it on Tmo. I was looking at ATT's site and their plans seem worse than Verizon's.

Then again if I love the phone I have no idea what I would do. I'd probably have to go to ATT because I'm fairly certain Tmo's coverage isn't as good.

Oh my god there are people starving *right now* and this is what is occupying my brain.

Not to sound harsh, but there where always starving people. And there will always be starving people. Just like there will always be bad people, wars, etc. If all you would do is think about that, it would drive you crazy. And I am from a country that has been thru bloody and long war, so I do know what I am talking about.

Live your life the best you can. If you get the opportunity to help, and you can help -> help those in need. That is all there is to it :)

The bag also feels like it's not a bargain bin model, it's a nice bonus indeed. The phone is currently installing all the apps and there's also a system update waiting, so it'll still take a while, but I'll keep you guys updated on how it performs after I'm done with the setup :)
