I'll be getting the 8GB model for the fact that it comes with 128GB of storage. If there were a 6GB/128GB model, I'd go for that.

that was my reasoning as well. I don't care about 8 GB. 4 is plenty fine in my S8 as it matters more about what they do on the software level to manage apps in the background. But I did like the 128GB storage and that black is quite nice ;)

I really wanted that blue OnePlus 5. Had that been available I would ordered without hesitation. I want new colours - I am getting sick of black and white slabs ...

Come to think of it I wonder if they have plans to release a white/gold model in the future ?

When you get yours can you test how many apps you can run without my bugbear of forced refreshing or reloading. I'm intrigued by this idea it prioritises your apps that you utilise. That could be a game changer for me if I can keep everything I do over the course of the day ready and waiting without any fuss. And with 8gb ram it shouldn't even be a factor ... I'm not bothered about gaming but normal everyday stuff that irk me every time I see a white frame being refreshed.

If that's not an issue and hopefully they haven't crippled the ram like they did with the OP3 (limiting it to closer to performance of 3gb on launch) making it somewhat redundant, then I will go ahead and order the black one 128gb myself too. I'll just sell my S8 to pay for it.

AP says it's not an issue like the OP3 was, but I guess we'll see once people start receiving the retail units

The OnePlus 5 comes in two variants: a gray one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and a black phone with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. To be clear, our review unit is the black version with 8GB of RAM. I cannot say how much of a difference that extra RAM makes, but I can say the OP5 keeps apps in memory very well. This was a problem with the OnePlus 3 when it launched. Despite having a healthy amount of RAM, apps were closing quickly to save battery. Here, there's no such issue.

Early reviews seem to show some impressive battery life. I'll wait for real members review on XDA to gauge battery, then decide from there.

Couple of the reviews such as mobilegeeks struggled to get beyond 5 hours SOT with average of 3.5-4.5

Standby time and SOT are different but if standby is more important that SOT then you should be grand.

Those hoping to break the 6 hour SOT may have to wait for software updates.

---

I have mostly talked myself into ordering one. But I will wait for the cases to be available (hopefully next week when it officially goes on sale) as I don't want to order one without a case and screen protector.

Well there's a screen protector pre-applied like there was on the 3T. I just wish that I don't have to keep on using the stock protector with the 5 like I did with the 3T just because the other options (even from OnePlus themselves were more or less crap).

What comes to battery, I wasn't worrying too much about it on the 3T as Dash Charging was so wicked fast. I didn't have to find an outlet for long to get a considerable top-up. If I recall correctly, a 16-minute commuter train ride brought me something like 30% more.

I'd love to order one but no VZW, no dice. Too bad. I think the price for what you're getting is fantastic.

Thanks for the comment. To me SOT is way more important, and I need a phone that gets AT LEAST 6h SOT, anything less is pure poo poo IMO. To me killer battery life are phones that get 7h SOT or more, and there are very few phones that can do that, except the Galaxy S8+ or Mate 9. Right now I am back on my Nexus 6P, which I love, but it's temporary until the Pixel XL 2 or iPhone 7S Plus. My 6P sucks balls on battery only giving me 5h to 5.5h SOT which is horrible, and dies by dinnertime or before

I would rather spend the same or a little more for a used G6 or S8 on swappa ect.

Yeah, You can buy a new Dual Sim G6 64gb Quad DAC model for €400 from some sites now.

As slow and crap support for devices Samsung & LG is regarding future android updates, i am not convinced OnePlus support has improved over the years. I never had utilised the OP3 (sold mine when I got it) so last OP device I had was the OPX and software support on that device was a shambles.

As close as I am to ordering, I just keep finding a valid excuse to stop me pressing the order now button.

Just doesn't excite me, this phone.
I feel like they could have pushed the design a little more. I'm not really bothered that it looks like an iPhone, they can rip off whoever they want but I'd rather they ripped off the G6 or something. In 2017, an iPhone is not the phone you wanna be copying (design wise).

I had a One Plus X, which I really liked due to that lovely design. The main series have never done it for me and this doesn't look to change that.
I'm also fed up of these boring colours. Samsung are the only ones who seem to get that right at the minute, although I'm holding out hope that Pixel 2 will bring dat vibrancy. :D
And putting a case on doesn't count btw :p.

That design is such a blatant copy I am speechless!

All the best OnePlus.. you will not see my custom this year at least!

they dropped software updates for oneplus 2 and this is also not going to get updates after 1 year

They did fumble big time with the OP2, but I hope and assume they've learned their lessons by now. We'll see that with how the 3/3T get supported. Android O has been promised for them, so that's the first checkpoint.

OnePlus lost me, with that baby size 3,300mAh battery. I guess they do "Settle" now. F this iPlus 5 phone.

I know 3300 for today's phones is probably pretty darn good. But if they went balls out and put the massive 4,000mAh battery in the iPlus 5 it could've been a super beast battery champion smartphone, compared to now having really good battery life, but not what they could've done, and "Never Settle". Oh well bring on the Pixel XL 2 please

OnePlus 5: 7 things that would've made it better;

OnePlus 5T coming December will have the 4,000mAh battery and SD836 processor.
I agree.
3300mAh on an Android phone isn't anything to write home about.
Would be fine on an iOS phone.
I wonder if Google will ever make whatever changes are necessary to make Android as battery efficient as iOS?
I think in my past experience it seemed like Googles own apps/services drained the battery the most. They should be able to do something about it, if they wanted to.

You're making me want to move to Ireland :D OnePlus seems to be the only manufacturer in the Finnish market who doesn't consider dual-SIM and a good overall device to be mutually exclusive things.

I'm curious: do *you* really care about Android updates, other than security patches? You seem to swap out phones as often as I do and I don't give a lick about Android phones being updated as a result. I agree the OEM's should be better about it in general because that demonstrates a commitment to their customers, but personally? Makes zero difference to me. If I buy something now, I know I"m on to a new thing come fall anyway.

Don't need to come to Ireland. (G6 isn't available here without importing)

€390 64gb Quad Dac Dual SIM ....

G6 prices are ridiculous.
