That's just an iPhone 7 running Android! Even the marketing shots are identical to Apple's. Also, "Portrait Mode", not even another name. Not bashing, just wow.

Meh, this is a 3T+ at best...
Yeah well, for me it addresses one of my main complaints with the 3T, i.e. the camera. As I already sold my 3T a couple of weeks ago, I'll be returning to OnePlus with the 5. There just isn't much competition in good dual-SIM phones in Finland. Some manufacturers sell low-end dual-SIMs, but I don't that functionality so much that I'd live with a crappy phone for it. However, when we have a flagship grade phone with dual-SIM and a good camera, it's almost hitting the perfect phone mark for me. If they add actual waterproofing at some point, we're getting really close to that point.

Supersaf camera comparison with the iPhone 7+.

Didn't get to watch it all but from what I saw the stabilization at 4k and portrait mode is better for the iPhone. Everything else seems to be better for the one plus.

I think I preferred the iPhone 7 front facing camera video too. Camera seems pretty good for one plus though.

I'd be the first in line for that :D Even with two OnePlus phones a year, I'd cover it financially by skipping the latest iPhone.

When you get yours can you test how many apps you can run without my bugbear of forced refreshing or reloading. I'm intrigued by this idea it prioritises your apps that you utilise. That could be a game changer for me if I can keep everything I do over the course of the day ready and waiting without any fuss. And with 8gb ram it shouldn't even be a factor ... I'm not bothered about gaming but normal everyday stuff that irk me every time I see a white frame being refreshed.

If that's not an issue and hopefully they haven't crippled the ram like they did with the OP3 (limiting it to closer to performance of 3gb on launch) making it somewhat redundant, then I will go ahead and order the black one 128gb myself too. I'll just sell my S8 to pay for it.

OnePlus lost me, with that baby size 3,300mAh battery. I guess they do "Settle" now. F this iPlus 5 phone.

I know 3300 for today's phones is probably pretty darn good. But if they went balls out and put the massive 4,000mAh battery in the iPlus 5 it could've been a super beast battery champion smartphone, compared to now having really good battery life, but not what they could've done, and "Never Settle". Oh well bring on the Pixel XL 2 please

OnePlus 5T coming December will have the 4,000mAh battery and SD836 processor.

looks like 8gb ram is here lol.

Any idea if it works on Verizon? I see it has BT 5.0.

not sure. a cursory look at the specs says that it has 3 of the 4 LTE bands for Verizon, but it's missing Band 13 which is a pretty critical LTE band (the 700 MHz band). It seems to have B0 of CDMA which I think would be 1x (2G), so it could potentially fall back to that in a poor LTE area. BUT, it's up to Verizon to work get the bands the phone does have running on it's network. The HTC U11, for instance, has band 4 but is currently not able to access it on Verizon's network HTC is working with Verizon to get band 4 (XLTE band) up and running on the U11.

Bands (OnePlus 5)
FDD LTE: Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/29/30/66
TDD LTE: Band 38/39/40/41
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39
UMTS(WCDMA): Band 1/2/4/5/8
CDMA EVDO: BC0
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Sure, I'll give it a try when I get mine. I hope I can get off from work early enough to make it to the pop-up store when there's still devices left.

@MRU Are you satisfied with the 8GB of RAM? :);)

We won't know. The OP3 had 6gb but it's limiter was set to utilise a maximum of around 3gb (with Carl Pei saying it was designed this way to preserve battery). However this was later upped after an understandable outcry, however only to around similar limiter as other 4gb devices.

The 3T is much the same in the fact it's limiter still doesn't ever allow the device to truly utilise 6gb, with a limiter that is similar to 4gb devices (it's actually fractionally higher) ..

It will be really interesting to see if they have knocked this cap off, otherwise whether it's 6gb or 8gb you will never know a difference and the spec is merely grandstanding.

I look forward to seeing some tests and see what the Xda people discover after they extract the software to see if it is still artificially limited.

The Verge review said the 8GB helped apps install faster. : shrug :

I don't see the need for 8GB myself. I think they would have been better off keeping the higher end model at 6GB and offering it at closer to ~$500 price.

Reviews seem mixed. Verge weren’t too impressed and Supersaf showed it was good in places but less so in others.

If the camera was across the board brilliant as implied by the promos I’d be in. However, the Portait mode seems quite a bit worse than the 7 Plus (the edge detection) which is a disappointment. Not sure how OP can get it right if Apple and their resources can’t.

After using Portait mode on the 7 Plus, it’s hit and miss in good light and poor (noisy and blurry) in lowish light. I ended up ditching the 7 Plus for a Lumix GX8 with a Prime to get real bokeh.

Unfortunately, the Portrait thing is phones desperately trying to be something they will most likely never be.

Aside from that, I’m not sure what I would personally gain over the £150 OP3 I picked up as a backup. Nothing really compelling.

Typical verge. The ram wouldn't install apps faster, it's the faster UFS storage speeds and faster CPU that would allow installation of apps faster. Sometimes the Verge are such Newbs ;)

The boost from 6 to 8 is likely just a marketing move as it does make the end user think they will be getting a better device for just $60 more (on top of larger storage capacity). It's a great up-selling technique. Even if doesn't make any real difference to end user in practice.

I'll be getting the 8GB model for the fact that it comes with 128GB of storage. If there were a 6GB/128GB model, I'd go for that.

LOL...that was my reaction when I watched their review. Like (minions voice)whaaaaaat ...ram doesn't help install apps faster. The dual channel UFS storage is responsible for that.
