Shipped! Should be in Friday!

A bit nervous since this is an imported device, first one actually. First non mainstream device.

I'm a bit surprised I was able to snag one of these at all!

Edit // update

Due in a bit earlier, on the 12th! Actually shipping from Cali instead of being imported.

Really curious to see how loud the headphone jack is and if there are mixer paths that can be adjusted. I find the volume low on my other devices that's why I have held on to my Nexus 6 for so long.

If it comes in at a decent time tonight I'll try to get it bootloader unlocked rooted and sat up to use tomorrow.

Came in a little bit ago. Getting it sat up so I can unlock the bootloader and get it rooted.

First impressions...

The red? Beautiful metallic color. Sits nice along the black. Bezels are really thin. Forehead and chin don't stick out like on the Nexus 6 or pixel XL 2. Slippery. Nice weight to it. Need to get to the point where I actually use it.

The notch? Meh. It's there.

The vibration motor has a different feel to it then my pixel.

Has a notification light I evidently don't need an app to use!

It's been on "just a sec..." For a while now, I'm presuming it's either downloading additional apps or an OTA. It needs to hurry up so I can do it again!

First impressions: with only a hour or so actually using the device...

Using "Red" to write this out. So far so good. Root and bootloader unlock was easy. Volume in headphones is a bit too low, guess I'm just going to have to deal with it, I'm sure my ears won't mind... unless there is a mixer path hack like back in the Nexus days. Will keep looking.

I think I'm going to try to run with Firefox on this device instead of chrome. So far the notch, well, it's there and it's not really an issue to me. It doesn't really bug me as of yet.

The device seems to be very fast. The 1080 screen don't really bug me either.

Initial thoughts, this should be the pixel. Will have more thoughts and musings when I use the device more.

I plan on popping my att sim card in when I go back to work and leave my pixel XL 2 home one day...

Ugh. Man, I need to quit reading this stuff. Just makes me want to switch to Android and ditch iOS. Right when I'm all about going full bore with Apple I start reading things about the new Android hotness and get cold feet with the fruit...

Guys, how does this phone and Android as a whole work with the Apple world - Apple Photos app on Mac, .mac / .me email addresses, iTunes and general compatibility? I know it's not possible to sync directly to Mac from Android and that you do need third party software, but has this improved over the years or is it still a little hit and miss?

I'd love to jump to Android again, alas I'm immersed in the Apple cocoon!

There are some really easy ways to sync google photos and apple photos. But I don't use those at all, since I don't use google photos at all. I transfer all of my photos to Mac Photos app manually. Not really a hard thing to do, since I don't take a lot of photos :)

Apple @me/icloud email works just fine on android, just like it does on iPhones. No problems there at all.
iTunes has some 3rd party syncing apps that work great.

Other then that, everything works almost as good as with iPhone. Of course, you don't get phone calls on your mac, or sms messages (by default at least), but that doesn't bug me at all.

But you do get access to file system, and that is a huge bonus :)

Thanks mate. With Apple Photos, what I found when I had a Nexus 5 was that when I transferred photos I was left with thumbnails of the photos too, which I would then have to go in and manually delete from Apple Photos on my Mac - this meant that Id need to go into every photo and identity which is the photo and which is the thumbnail. Incredibly frustrating.

Transferring music from iTunes was also frustrating. Has this improved?

If all of the above has improved, I may very soon be moving back to good old Android. Far better than iOS in my opinion.

I use this little app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=iTunes.Sync.Android&hl=hr

Works like a charm.

As for photos, and generally accessing Android file system, I've ditched google android file transfer app. It's a disaster.
I've purchased Commander One PRO for mac, and that thing is a beast. Google it up, and check it out. I really don't think that you can find any complaints about that app.

But it isn't necessary, but if you don't mind to spend some $, it is really worth it.

Thanks for the info. The description is in a foreign language. Also doesn't say how much the app is. I don't mind spending so long as it works.

Got mine a few days ago, love most of it, just the battery life doesn't seem to be great so far. Will see if software updates fix that in the future.. Seeing people talk about almost 10 hours SOT. Def not getting anywhere close to that, but I'd be happy with a consistent 5-6 + solid standby time.

I've never really been a huge OnePlus fan but for some reason last night I ended up on a YouTube video of the OS (it was a recommended vid) and I was really impressed with the things that they bake into it - reading mode being one of them.
Liked that a lot.

I couldn't believe the price of the phone either after checking it out due to curiosity getting the better of me.
What great value.

Just seems like reviews either trash the camera or say it's just ok which is a shame.

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in a OnePlus 7" tablet like the old Nexus 7 tablet. I think one would be cool.

I'm a huge fan of OxygenOS, so much so, I picked up another OnePlus 6. I've been enjoying it quite a bit and the camera isn't as bad as the 5T or earlier models. It's not a pixel but honestly better than when I had the P20 (not the pro) and on par (maybe better?) with the LG G7 and V30 I recently tried out.

Have you gone through MKBHD's blind camera sample video? I actually picked the OnePlus 6 a few times and didn't think that I would.

I loved that camera test. I ended up veering to the S9 which really shocked me.

My mate is a OnePlus rep here in the UK so has one and he's big into his photography. He said today it's a disappointment to him. But he thinks the iPhone X is a great camera... so it's one of them haha.

Now I did not know about the camera. I have an iPhone 6 and it has a terrible camera, hence my desire to change. My wife has a Nexus 5X. Much much better quality then the iP6.

I still haven't taken mine out of the house or shoved a sim card in it. I might do it tomorrow during work hours to see how it goes and how att works in my work space.

Still haven't tested the camera, I don't see it being worse then my Nexus 6 for quick shots and or something to use Snapseed to try to turn into something a bit more artistic.

I have found myself reaching for my pixel XL 2 as my go to device. It took me a bit to roll over to it when I first got it as well.

haha, yeah, I picked the S9 the most too. At least it's an improvement over the 5/5T (and earlier). They just need to get their camera processing up to snuff. The older models seemed to do a lot better with the google camera ports. The google camera port for the snapdragon 845 (and thus oneplus 6) is being working on and is gaining ground, but not quite in final stages yet.

Interesting camera test video. I picked each device at least once. Just goes to show how good they all really are nowadays.
