you're not the only one. I had to return my OP 7 Pro because of the camera (and size / heft). It's just not up to par with the flagships. I take a lot of pics and videos, especially of my 3 young kids, and it just doesn't give me the confidence I like to have when I need to snap a quick pic or video of my kids... and I love scenery pics too and this just can't hang. Right now I'm hanging on to my 3a and S10 which do a much better job.

EDIT: otherwise, it is a good camera, best OP camera yet. But not up to snuff with the big boys. but the phone itself is incredible if you don't have the touch issues.

I think I was letting the amazing screen, experience, and other items mask the camera which I honestly havent used much.
But once i took it out yesterday and began snapping, I realized I hadn't taken many pics at all with the phone which is odd as I take a ton.

With my kids and their events I would snap so many pictures with my iPhone that it was just the norm and I wanted to. This phone never made me want to and after yesterday it probably won't in the future. They looked so badly processed and ruined some big moments I wanted to capture.

I am not saying at all my iPhone camera was the best but it was consistent and took amazing bright photos as needed. Even in pure daylight, the processing and effects of these pics were so bad I was embarrassed to share with the rest of my family for the moment.

I get it. It's an incredible device to use and that screen was so immersive and inviting to consume content. I love oxygen OS and all the customization it brings without bloat or slow down. They finally improved the haptics and speakers over previous versions which literally checked all the boxes I needed coming from the 5 - 6 era. But that camera... come on OP, get the damn camera processing down. Even Gcam just wasn't giving me the same results as my 3a.

My experience of the camera so far has been ok. Not great but good enough for my needs so far. It seemed to hold up pretty well on my recent trip to Barcelona.

That said, does anyone know if there is a reliable gcam port yet? If so I might give it a go.

Had my first picture heavy event this weekend and was very unsatisfied with the camera on this device. It was all kinds of weird coloring and Samsung like effects to their pics. I was very disappointed and probably the honeymoon stage blinded me from previous simple snap and take pics of previous.

I felt like it truly soured the experience of the moment and really missed my XS Max for the first time.

Now i have some other big events coming in the next few weeks and not sure I want to trust my OP7 as my mine device for those. Other then that though, this phone is so damn good.

In anything but ideal lighting, and even in ideal lighting, too many of my pics seemed to have this washed out coloring to them. I think the camera processing can't handle harsh light and highlights too well.

Use gcam and voila working camera

Somebody posted this link in another thread: https://www.smartprix.com/bytes/oneplus-7-pro-gets-dc-dimming-whats-it-and-how-to-enable-it/

Has anybody had a chance to try this out yet?

Mine arrived today, can't wait to play around with it. Updates installed insanely quick. I have the unlocked model direct from OP.

One thing no one has commented on that I tried, is the DC dimming feature that supposedly eliminates PWM flicker. It is an option within the utilities menu. I just briefly tried it and everything appeared to look the same color-wise. I'll have to really use the phone with DC dimming on and off to compare further. But, when using the option in a very dark room, there is zero observable PWM flicker which can be a great thing for many people who are sensitive to PWM flicker.

@GrumpyMom , you should give this phone a look, could be a game changer for PWM sensitivity.

Looking at the 1+ forums and this 9.5.7 update seems to have fixed the ghost touch issues. That's awesome. My phone isn't pulling the OTA update yet, hopefully I'll receive it soon.

Why not install a VPN and then search for the update? Or use the Oxygen Updater App which generally gets it out for all as well.

it depends on if it's a T-Mobile (USA) variant or not. the t-mobile version is on a slightly different update version and is typically delayed behind the unlocked variants directly from OnePlus. Oxygen updater doesn't seem to work with the T-Mobile variant...

now, if it's a phone directly from OnePlus, then yes, your methodology typically works.

The Oxygen updater did not work on my OP7 from TMobile for what it's worth.

Tried Oxygen updater last night on mine (unlocked) and it worked perfectly. The 9.5.7 update completely resolved the ghost touch issue for me. Loving the notch and hole punch free life (for now...). This screen is just jaw dropping to me.

right... works great for unlocked variant... but for the T-Mobile variant, it doesn't since that phone is on a different update channel.

I've used Oxygen updater on past OnePlus phones and it's awesome! no more waiting on regional availability!

Yeah, unfortunately OnePlus are not exactly known for having good Cameras, they are always aiming for “good enough”.

Google Pixel 3, Huawei P30 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G are the best bets.

DxOMark have had me side eyeing their testing after they gave the OnePlus 7 Pro such a high score.
