Oh my God it's pentile and because of this it has a third less pixel than full HD. You don't have a clue...

True, essentially 440ppi is effectively reduced by 1/3 so 300ppi is the effective ppi of a 1080p screen on 5.5" panel with the sub pixel arrangement they are using.

Thus it has less effective ppi than the iPhone SE and 6/6s at 321 ppi on a full rgb lcd panel.

If you have issues with sharpness of the smaller iPhones the OP3 would pose similar issue. If not, then you likely wouldn't have an issue with the OP3 either.

I was surprised me that some folks have reported it not being the greatest panel as the last AMOLED display they used in a device for the OnePlus X panel is a very good one at 5". Seriously it has extremely impressive screen on the X. That device has a load of niggles but for its price the screen was great.

It's not 440 ppi, it's 401 like the iPhone 6s plus. 1/3 less thanks pentile and it's 268 ppi on a 5.5 inch display. This is bad. And the smaller the device the less ppi you need so it's clearly more visible than on the 6s and se.

A bit lower than I had originally thought, so with 401 ppi so we're talking effective 268 ppi then ...

Must admit the screen sharpness is a slight reservation as I await shipment and delivery. But...I'm just going to go with how it looks and functions rather than decide by the numbers. I'm basically giving OnePlus a shot ahead of the HTC 10 and Nexus. Or even a Google phone.

It's a bit of a weird situation in that techies are the crowd who will know what PPI, PenTile, etc yet there also the ones who will know about the OP3.

Sure thing. But the problem is you didn't even mention pentile, all you said is lack of qhd, and that fhd isn't as good. The problem there is that basically no human could tell difference. But of course you can. And then after MRU and my brief conversation is that you mention pentile. Sure thing bro, you're the boss.

Just to quote what you said:
Compared to nearly all amoled displays. Even the last Samsung 1080p display in the s4 and s5 had a better ppi because they had only a 5 inch display. If oneplus has to save money they should have used the 2 years old note 4 display, even this is better.

And once again, I'm not a fan of AMOLED screens, quite the opposite. I hate over saturated colors, and how everything looks childish. At least to me. Someone else loves amoled screens, and that's ok too.

But qhd? qhd is a complete overkill. It's a joke on 5,5 screens. But a nasty joke that takes toll on performance and battery. Marketing joke that unfortunately works.

Maybe it's a joke on a phone like the HTC 10 or lg g5 with a 5.2/5.3 ips panel and no vr equipment. But for a amoled pentile panel on a phablet you need qhd so it's not a joke!

On a pentile maybe, I honestly don't know since I've never actually owned one. And frankly, don't care about pentile as well. But you didn't even mention pentile in the first place, all you talked about is fhd and qhd.

But it's a joke on a 5,7 or even 6,0 as well. Even when no pentile is involved in our little story. Since no human being can see a difference between FHD 5,5 and qhd 5,5. No human. One that thinks/says he can needs to be careful for marketing stuff ;)

I am waiting for the OP issues to be completely solved before I consider it as a potential replacement for my S7 Edge.

I use an iPad with 264ppi and I still don't notice the pixels. I don't think that the problem is less subpixels, I think it's the size. They leave too much empty space between the pixels. I notice it when I'm using VR.

And in case you're wondering, I have no problem with my eyesight.

Anything in that price range and in general. Saw one yesterday, because some of my co-workers are idiots.

So they bought a phone which was simple, well-built and affordable, and you're suggesting that they're idiots because of the pixel arrangement?

Display is what you look at most of the time, not the metal frame. But to answer you question yes, they are idiots. This is a simple concept.

Even tough I've said I won't buy any more phones this year, mine arrives on Friday.
I just want to shoot myself for purchasing another phone...

Oh well, gonna enjoy it for a couple of weeks then probably sell it, since I doubt it will be any better then HTC 10 :D
