True, essentially 440ppi is effectively reduced by 1/3 so 300ppi is the effective ppi of a 1080p screen on 5.5" panel with the sub pixel arrangement they are using.
Thus it has less effective ppi than the iPhone SE and 6/6s at 321 ppi on a full rgb lcd panel.
If you have issues with sharpness of the smaller iPhones the OP3 would pose similar issue. If not, then you likely wouldn't have an issue with the OP3 either.
I was surprised me that some folks have reported it not being the greatest panel as the last AMOLED display they used in a device for the OnePlus X panel is a very good one at 5". Seriously it has extremely impressive screen on the X. That device has a load of niggles but for its price the screen was great.
