Hmmm Im torn between the Nexus 5X or the OP3. Oneplus CS scares the hell out of me

Well to tbh.....that is just the One X and the writing was on the wall about that model. This is no secret. I am pretty sure OPO said this was going to happen on their forums.

Ah cool, didn't know how their sales cycle and support works. Seems a bit shaky though.

I usually buy cheap android phones with the assumption that if it breaks, I'm screwed. OP3 is a beast, and I'd say its worth the risk over the 5X. Though the 5X is very cheap on eBay right now

OP3 is way better. I would only buy a 5X direct from Google for their customer support. No other benefit over the OP3.

Well, my OP3 arrived day earlier then anticipated by DHL. So it was a nice surprise this morning when it was delivered.

Everybody was praising build quality, and still it took my by surprise. Even tough phone is large, it's actually easy to hold in one hand. Metal finish is top quality, almost as good as HTC 10, better then on iPhone 6s. IMHO of course :)

Haven't had the time to test out the device, just unlocked bootloader, rooted and downloaded CM to test it out. But first I'm gonna give OOS a one more try, at least for a month or so. Until they release Dash charging source :D

Screen is also ok, not samsung S7 quality, but it's really good. Visibility on sun is also pretty good, that was the thing I was most afraid of. I live in a pretty sunny place, and this plays a major role in my use case scenario.

All on all, first impressions are really great. Gonna play with the phone for a couple of days then if I have some extra time I'm gonna post my impressions here. Here are a couple of pics of the device, I've took them with OPX that was laying around my work desk :D

Mine turned up earlier too. About a week from order to receipt (UK). Overall, very impressed. I guess I prefer metal phones and this one is nicer than most.

Pretty much everything has been written and said about the merits and drawbacks. The display was the thing on my mind but I'm pleasantly surprised. A quick adjustment (to slightly warmer) and it works for me.

sRGB is a nice option to have and I'll use that at times. Detail (PPI) looks fine so PenTile woes aren't obvious to my eyes. Sure I can line it up next to a Note 5 and pixel peep if I want but no reason to.

Decided to root and play around with it on Oxygen. Dark mode looks great with the slab look.

Oh, and 3.2.1 is OTA. VPN to Germany and it should show.

Decent review, i am still little underwhelmed by ram performance despite the fix, though loading speeds are fantastic.

What battery life are you getting ? I see Erica gets around 3.5 SOT which seems pretty mediocre especially as the 3,000mAh and 820 in the HTC 10 yields me 5 SOT average and that's with 2k LCD vs 1080p amoled too.

OnePlus really need to develop better power management overall because even with their artificial ram limitation to increase battery life, that's a good 30-35% difference between devices with near identical specs albeit with one having a display that in theory should take more resources and yet still yields better battery ....

For $400 though, it's certainly one of the best value buys out there.

Battery life is very good in my case, 70% 4G, 30% WiFi and on adaptive brightness on about 60% I am getting between 5 and 6 hours sot.
Lots of people are getting about 5h sot as I read on several forums, so I think battery life isn't a problem regarding the OP3

Good stuff, that's what i would expect. Wonder why Angela Griffin had such middling battery by comparison.

On bone stock (current setup) I'm seeing around 4 hours if mostly LTE and 5 hours if mostly wifi.

When I first got the phone, I went straight to TWRP, root, Xposed, Adaway, Greenify, Amplify, etc. The battery was about an hour better for LTE and wifi. However, I had random camera lockups, green photos(!), and the odd reboot so had to revert to check it wasn't a hardware thing.

So, I find the battery OK/good but not outstanding (50% brightness, dual SIMs, BT watch, adaptive brightness, ambient display). YMMV.

Well, my OP3 is going for a sale. Here's a short review after using it for a few days.
or
Build Quality
Simply unbelievable for a 400 euro phone. Comparing just build quality this phone can go head to head with iPhone, htc, samsung, etc. And probably win. Weight on the phone is awesome. Holding it in one hand is easier then iPhone 6s. Using it with one hand is also easier then my htc 10. 2.5D screen like on iPhone is a complete win. Simply stylish, elegant i nice to use. To put it in short writing, I give it a 10/10 from me. Well done OnePlus, I have to give them credit here.

Screen Quality
I'm not a fan of Amoled. Never have been, never will be. And OnePlus 3 is simply lacking here. Without calibration, screen on OP3 is yellowish, whites aren't white at all, etc. Colours pop out even more then on Samsung phones. Outdoor visibility is more ok then not. Things get a little better after calibrating the screen, but since I've already confessed that I really hate Amoled screens, I'm certaintly not the right guy to judge this screen. But if you love amoled screens, I think this one will be ok for you. Not S7 quality, more like S4 quality.

Battery Life
This came as a shock to me. Even though I've rooted my OP3 as soon as I've opened the box, and fixed ram issue, I could still get 4h to 4:30h SoT. And manage thru all day without any problems using 2 sim cards. 50% of the time phone was using LTE, 50% on wi-fi. I didn't use greenify or any other battery enhancements. Only fixed ram issue and installed adaway. But to put things into perspective, read the software part of my review.

Camera
I'm really not a camera guy. Don't use it much on any of my devices. I'm a kind of guy that would fail to make decent photo even using top rated dslr. So my part of review here won't help anyone. I use camera as a point 'n' shoot device on any phone I've own or have owned. And this one seemed excellent during the day light, comparable to top phones out there. But comparing the night shots vs iPhone SE and HTC 10, even I can see a big difference. HTC 10 and iPhone SE are simply better. At least for a camera dummy like me :)

Software and performance
One of the reasons I'm selling the device. Remember the part about battery? Well, this thing goes into doze mode and
I receive no emails, or any kind of sync from the device. Annoying as hell. But probably helps with that nice battery life. At the expense of actually using the phone like I would use any other phone. Idiocracy? Of course.

But to mention a few nice things. First off, this phone is pretty damn fast. Fingerprint sensor failed me 0 times, and it's fast as hell. But it tries to turn on when the phone is in my pocket. Another annoying thing. Opening apps is faster then on any other Android phone (owned almost every flagship out there). And yes, it feels faster then even Nexus 6P.

Shelf part is excellent this time, and I found myself using it all the time. Using widgets in shelf is a nice touch, much better then last year one Op2 or OPX. Dual sim mode works like a charm also, no complaints there.

I've mentioned one reason to sell this phone. Well another one is I own HTC 10. At the moment imho a better device then OP3. And OP3 has software bugs as expected, and I have no faith in OP team to fix those soon, and even if they do, then a few other bugs will come to light. I speak from past experience :D

But I plan on purchasing this phone in a 3-4-5 months. As soon as CM gets stable rom. Then this will be a no brainer to purchase. Excellent build quality, excellent to use, hardware wise can't miss with this one. And the price compared to competition is unbeatable.

If someone isn't a phone junkie like myself, then this phone is no1 purchase. And I stand by my recommendation even though I really dislike OP software team.

That would be all from me, I hope this short review can help some of you out there :)

Did you try the sRGB mode, that was enabled in developer settings after the latest update?

Yup. Helps, a lot. But still not good enough. For me at least. Don't get me wrong, lots of people enjoy displays like one OP3. And that's ok. I'm just not one of them :(

If someone likes/loves something that you simply don't, that doesn't make that person blind/weird/stupid/etc. It just means you like different things. Not a big deal. At least in my world :p

Luckily we have science which discriminates likes, dislikes, opinions.
