After going back to stock and only rooting for adaway, my battery has been pretty good...a little better than I expected.

The other day I had a total of 5 hours SoT from mixed use starting from 90% battery: morning LTE with 2.5 hours screen used, mostly email and Chrome. Afternoon was wifi streaming TDF for 2 hours and evening was on wifi doing SMS, browsing, Tapatalk, reddit, etc. I reduced brightness to ~10% late evening for an hour from my usual ~40%.

I'd guess at 4 hours all LTE and 6-6.5 on wifi with lower brightness near the end of the day. It seems to doze/flatline better than when I went Xposed crazy.

I usually average right around 4.5 to 5 hours SOT on my OPO3. It has been better than I expected. I ran CM13 for a while then went back to the stock OS that it came with and am pretty happy with it.

Sure seems battery life is in question, since this one is still on my radar I will continue to monitor.

This was only posted a few days ago so I will link for discussion about battery concerns:

I haven't had any problems with wake locks on my OPO3 running the stock unrooted image so far.

Would you guys choose this or a 64GB Nexus 6P? I would have to buy them online. Still debating which phone should be my next after the S6. I need more storage (I have the 32GB model) and battery.

From what I've read the OP3's battery isn't that great and camera the same. Updates in the future are terrible. It could take them 6 months to release N. 6P on the other hand I believe has a lower brightness display, less RAM, bigger (but build quality is similar) and worse CPU.

On WiFi only, 5-6 hours is pretty consistent for me over a full day (with lower brightness in the late evening).

LTE only is closer to 3-3.5. Maybe 4.

On a recent trip to London, I left at 7am, did a bit of browsing, some brief navigation, and took 200 shots plus around 10 minutes of 4K video and it was dead by 7pm. So, while dash charging is ridiculously great, the envy becomes magnified when you're out and about and you're reliant on the battery.

And, the more I use the camera and video, the more I feel this is where the savings were made. So much noise in nice conditions when compared to shots from Samsungs of this and last year. The artefacts in video are very noticeable.

I would choose the OP3 over the 6P as well, very satisfied with mine.
Battery life is great for me and most users on XDA and OnePlus forums, getting between 5 and 6 hours sot..
I have a feeling OnePlus has learned its lesson regarding updates, as they got lots of complaints from the community so Carl promised to improve drastically..

The camera is a worry. The OP X also head a poor camera, even i couldn't get good shots with it. Concerned i will be frustrated by it ...

Are you getting one?

I was planning on doing so, i was waiting for the white/gold to be released which is now happening next week for Europe, so was set to get one. Then just reading through the oneplus forum just checking things hs like battery & ram patch fix are doing the job, i noticed quite a few threads and posts regarding various camera issues from laser focus not fast and a lot of blurry shots or noise even in daylight shots. I do like a good camera, i dont know whether to wait and see what the next nexus brings to the table as they rumor that to be september now. Whats 4-5 weeks when i already have 4 other phones :D

OP3 has a really good camera. Not Samsung/iPhone/LG/HTC quality, but not that far off either. I was pleasantly surprised by OP3 camera capability.

Battery was also a nice surprise, since I wasn't expecting much, but on just LTE I've managed to get 4:30. And the phone is ridiculously fast, probably fastest Android I have ever used.

As far as upgrades go, I wouldn't believe OP team much, since they tend to lie a lot! And faster the update comes, more bugs will show up. I'm speaking from fast experience here.

But on the other hand, I bet this phone is on par with Nexus when it comes to custom rom support, especially since OP is releasing almost everything open source, so I wouldn't worry that much about upgrades. OP3 is built for custom roms, so if you plan to get it, use that option. Better then sticking with stock ;)

I think you answered your own question there: "Battery isn't that great and updates in the future are terrible." Now let's address your 6P concerns. How much of a difference is brightness going to be in your day to day use? If it's a must, then stay clear of both devices. If not, then the 6P is good enough. RAM, this is a funny thing in mobile computing. 2GB of RAM is enough on iOS to work with the A9 chip and get it the best single core score in the game. The iPhone has some occasional hiccups, but what phone doesn't? The 810 processor is no slouch, even with the modifications to prevent overheating.

If this still doesn't help, go look for alternatives like the new ZTE Axon. New Egg and B&H have great deals going on right now.

IMHO...the OPO3 camera is good...just not great.

That might be enough in this day and age. The iPhone doesn't have the best camera, yet it is overwhelmingly popular on the 6S/6S+ because it has good software and social media support. As long as it takes clear photos, doesn't give issues, and connects with apps, that's all that matters.

Carl sounds like a Don Mattrick sometimes. I will believe it when I see it. Same goes with Samsung. It gets the monthly security patches, but what does that mean for the Android N, O, etc updates?

I think people get caught up on cameras, if it inst the best then it isnt worth having. I would say a camera even in the top 10 this year is still better than the top camera from a few years ago which people were just fine using

that is true! But then why buy another phone? Today's phones are better than what we used before and they worked just fine for us then. Just playing devil's advocate with your logic :)

If OPO can keep up with the updates they are really going to gain new customers. That has always been a knock on them since their partnership with Cyanogen dissolved.
Good job OPO :)

I would choose the OP3 over the N6P. Maybe its the size? I find the N6P to be too big for me (size wise, it's on par with the 6S Plus). But, I am not a fan of stock Android, though. I prefer Touchwiz over stock, but that's a whole other story.
