Now their going after the Apps. Looks like Samsung's got a real game plan in their new line of ads. So far they've gone after the mindless sheep like behaviour, now the Apps. What could be next? But I gotta say, it's another funny commercial. Samsung is really getting creative. They still take a funny jab at the sheep at the end. Can't wait for the superbowl commercial. lol

Do you feel better now? You went out of your way to post "my dog's bigger than your dog". How cute.
How old are you? I would guess you are pushing 16 or 17.

I haven't visited the forums much lately. I realize why I stopped bothering. There are far too many folks who come here just for this purpose. I am happy you like Android and Samsung but, to be frank, I don't give a rat's rectum.

You should fall down on your knees and thank goodness that Apple created the template for what a smart phone should look and feel like. Before iPhone and it's UI, people thought Blackberry's were cutting edge.

I just dont get the hate. Some guys in here wont hear of anything else being close to being as good even if it is. Both phones are very good. It just depends on what you like.

I can agree with this statement.

I don't mind people comparing the iPhone to other phones. Maybe it's because I am secure in the phone I have and I don't feel inferior regardless of what specs the newer phones come out with. I have a phone I really enjoy (4S) and simply want to be kept in the loop and be informed.

Knowledge is power :)

Then again though... ignorance is bliss ;)

The fragmentation is too great for Android, and even SOME of you say .. "ahh rooting and flash ROM is piece of cake, anyone can do it in 5 minutes, what's the big deal?" ... you must admit not everyone is tech savvy nor have time/patience to do it.

You don't have to be tech savy. If you can use a computer, then you won't have a problem.

You only have to download some files, run a program and follow instructions. If you can't do that, then !!!!

Nexus One was 22 months ago, that's not a year, that's more than a year.

The last major update was Gingerbread, which was about a year ago. Bug fixes don't really count. Using your system, the iPhone 3G got 35 months of updates.

You missed my point entirely. My point is that I don't JB my iPhone and I never rooted my Nexus One or installed an XDA update. Apple has historically kept iPhones current for two years of iOS updates, while apparently Google has decided that 1 year of Android updates is "enough" for its flagship phones.

Anyway, while the Nexus One was fine and I'll keep it around so I can use the Wi-Fi hotspot on T-Mobile, I made the switch to iOS after the iPhone 4S came out since I had started to tire of Android. The stock e-mail client never satisfied me, and the UI is annoyingly inconsistent in places. Android 4.0 apparently fixes a lot of it, but alas, the Nexus One won't get it.

But it isnt one year. The Nexus one will be two years old in a month. I meanif it could handle it without teh battery being crappy then why not give it to them? But they arent. I have 3.2 on my iPhone 2G and my iPod andthe battery is crappy.

iPhone 3G was released on July 11, 2008 which is 40 months ago. Subtract the 12 months from the last release which was iOS 4.2.1 which was released November 22, 2010. That's 28 months of updates.

You did your math wrong.

Edit: Since you said bug fixes don't count then subtract 4 more months and that is 24 months worth of updates. Exactly 2 years worth of updates. Nexus One almost turns 2 in January, so that's pretty close.

1) These ads target uneducated smartphone users.

2) I give them a thumbs up for having enough sense to take advantage of people who think its all bout glitz and glam.

1a) Ah yes the same crowd Apple has addicted to it's brilliant and very popular "Fart Apps". I must say Android is really behind as compared to Apple. I just checked the App Store, counted over 300 free or paid Fart Apps before I stopped counting. Apple owns this mission critical category.

2a) Apples always set the bar high for as you say "Glitz & Glam". That's why my Antennagate Special Fails as a phone. It's fancy yet worthless external antenna was known to be defective before being put on the market, yet Big Ego Steve laughed & ordered it to be shipped anyway.

Oops, I nearly forgot:
Despite Jobs "holier than thou" religious like objection to porn, the App Stores second largest category after fart apps are Sex Apps. Highly prized by the fanbois it's another category of massive size. Well over 350 at last count they feature sexual positions, orgasm how-to's, sex toy tutorials and so much more. In lieu of restrictions, Apple is educating our kids in the "Apple Approved Sexual Positions, and all of those essential elements needed to obtain official Steve Jobs approved fanboi status.

Yes indeed Android is missing the point entirely. :)

This. I wish the mods would move these posts to the industry discussion section under the Community forums. I come here to read about iPhones not Samsung.

Have you tried reporting the post to the mods, asking for it to be moved yet?

Wrong! they target the uneducated iPhone user which is a good 99% of the users. anyone who has used android all ready knows is a nicer OS.

----------

Why on earth click on the thread then! You are allowed to make choices for your self. You don't have to follow the crowd

I can easily say that 99% of Android users like yourself are uneducated because you think Android is a nicer OS.

See, its fun to make up statistics ;) Anyway why do you care what others buy? I don't care if you like Android so why should you care that others like iPhone?

Have you tried reporting the post to the mods, asking for it to be moved yet? Image

Yep I did. (Really recently so I'd be surprised if someone saw it yet).

This is ridiculous. If they're going to take on Apps, they better offer something bigger and better that the public will like. Spouting off several apps of thousands and creation of more is virtually limitless shows that Samsung is really grasping for straws. They've realized that they are losing and are now "balls to the wall."

Neither here, nor there...
So? Apple didnt include all their phones either when they went to 4.0. Probably wont include them all with the next major update. Nexus 1 was released Jan 5th, 2010. Its almost two years old. Same as my 2G when it didnt get the update to 4.0.

True...

But why don't we really, and I mean, REALLY, compare iOS and Android updates and upgrades.

Have a look here:

016a_android_orphans.png

Now, Android is ahead in many ways compared to iOS. It is lacking in others too. But anyone saying that Android is best because it gets more updates is just plain bullcrap. As you can clearly see form the chart above.

Also, when it comes to Apps, and this is personal preference. I prefer paying a bit more for it and not having to deal with ads on iOS, than not paying at all and having to deal with ads in Android. Because, whilst most companies will make a free version of their app to demo it, they don't in Android. They just put it highly discounted or for free and make money off of the ads.

But, to each his own.

I think the chart is slanted by the fact that just because Apple *releases* an iOS update for a device does not mean that it has any of the major features. At the time that iOS 4 released, the iPhone 3G had just stopped selling, and it did not get any of the major features (multitasking, wallpapers, etc). The difference between Android 2.2 and 2.3 is minimal as far as the developer side is concerned, because while it added features, it did not make many changes to the way apps run.

Lack of updates? Bro Android had had three major OS upgrades the past 15 months while you got just one. Now you have to wait another year for the iP5 phone and another OS update while the Galaxy S3 will be here in Feb and the Galaxy Nexus is coming soon. Not to mention the Galaxy S2 is getting ICS in January. Not to mention they have 3 different size tablets.

Hec, you cant even stream your music with your iPhone wirelessly in a Toyota or Lexus yet til Jan when they have a software update for it. Not sure if you can in any cars yet (since i dont have any others) but we have been doing it on Android for a long while now.

Do all the Droid phones support all the same updates? Curious on that. I have heard some don't. Enlighten me.

Yes iPhones can stream music over bluetooth. I know it works on my buddies Mazda. So it isn't a capability that the iPhone hasn't already supported.

What changed? You could stream to Toyota in 2009. http://www.tuaw.com/2009/04/02/streaming-iphone-via-bluetooth-in-the-car/

Perhaps Toyota is doing something different now? /shrug

Samsung is mostly correct here just like their other ad against Apple fans. The difference between iOS vs Android apps has closed. Whatever common app found on iOS can be found on Android. Some say Apple's version is usually superior, and while that might be the case sometimes, the difference isn't that bad. Google needs more games. Sony can help them get exclusive killer apps.

If you want to say Android has a flea market of apps, you should start comparing Android apps vs WP apps. WP doesn't have Pandora. And what is sad is you end up paying more for WP apps when they are cheaper or free with the other two more popular platforms. Sometimes WP's version is weaker and sometimes it can have an amazing UI for it. Hit or miss with prices set all over the place.

Um. It does. Streams in my Prius, Lexus, BMW and Audi for about 2 years now. Do you even own a car?

No. Some smart phones are getting the newest ones, some arent. HTC is pretty good about that. Samsung is slow to do it but they do give out updates to their higher end phones such as the Galaxy S and i dont know if those will get ICS. I do know the GS2 is in Jan....so they say. The GS3 is said to be out in Feb so ill believe the GS2 will get updated but who knows. The Nexus phones are always the first ones to get the updates first.

Im no expert on which phones get what and when though. I have no idea how it been working with Motorola. I only care about the phone i have. If i want an upgrade bad enough, i root it and just go to XDA and do it myself.

I wasnt clear enough. My mistake. I didnt mean music, i meant their new system that now has apps.

Toyota now have a system called entune and Lexus will have theirs called enform that has Apps in your car intregrated with your nav screen device like Pandora, movie tickets, opentable which is a restaurant app to make reservations, iheartradio, etc, etc and you cant use those wirelessly with the cars with the iPhone. It actually has to connect to the internet for those apps to work. You have to use your USB cord for it to work till there is an update from Apple that will come sometime early next year.

So basically it isn't Apple's fault that Toyota/Lexus added something new. Strange Toyota would change the basic streaming portion of the interface to the point that the iPhone wouldn't be able to do it. At least they still support their product and are working on an update.

BTW, thanks for the response about the Droid OS updates on their phones. I know some Android folks around here would have taken my question as an attack and call me a dick or something ;). So if you root any droid phone you can get any OS update on it? That is pretty cool.

I dont know. Android works fine on it. WP7 does too. I dont know what exactly is up with the software that iPhone needs to use their USB cord for the apps to work with the internet but thats how it has to be done for now.

I dont think you can on Motorola but dont know for sure. I hear they are hard to root but i dont have a Motorola so i havent done any research of their phones. Probably never will have a Motorola.

Samsung is actually quite cooperative in that respect. They leak their OS builds often and the devs get hold of them and do takeoffs and tweaks from them.

Android had notifications before Apple did.

Samsung already is going to release flexible display phones next year.

So, they're not two years behind Apple.

Apple is two years behind them.

And what exactly are you gonna do with a flexible display? Gonna go widescreen on your face? ;) That's just a technology that isn't meant for mobile phones, rater bigger screens that could bend around you to make game play or movie watching much nicer. On a cellphone? C'mon..

The one thing you wont do with it is break it...so yes, that is a great thing for a mobile phone. iPhone on the other hand, is still surounding theirs with glass that looks good but breaks into a thousand pieces rather easy.

There is a video on the flexible screens that was out last year. Make a SuperAMOLED screen with those and that will be a great thing for sure.
