So you're going to protest limited bandwidth by limiting other people's bandwidth needlessly. That's about as genius as wearing tea bags to protest taxes, except wearing tea bags doesn't mess up the days of other people.

Thats a good one

At least we will know who to blame if AT&T now charges more for data and limits are unlimited(5GB) to less than that...

Obviously, you've completely missed the point.

Here:

-Operation Chokepoint: iPhone users using more data than normal between 12 and 1pm.

-At&t knows the reasoning behind Operation Chokepoint, which is that iPhone users don't want data limitations.

-At&t can measure data usage

-If more than normal data usage occurs between 12 and 1pm today, then Operation Chokepoint was successful in that the iPhone user base was heard. It's really no different than twittering or blogging, just another form of communication.

By all means, do what you feel is right. I was just trying to inform others.

Operation Chokefold is not going to affect anything. There's probably a problem with a tower.

You never know when it comes to San Francisco, it's THE city for mob-mentality, vis a vis Critical Mass, tuition hike protests, Obama's troop plan protests, Black Friday protests, Zombies, breast freedom, etc etc.

Point is, i wouldn't be surprised if half the people who participate in "Operation Chokehold" are in SF, and the other half are in Berkeley.

Do you feel protesting in general is stupid?

AT&T knows their network sucks.
AT&T knows that iPhone users use a lot of data.
AT&T knows we don't want to pay more.

Is there anything else? Some other point I'm missing? If they already know all of that then what are you trying to teach them? You're trying to tell them what they already know?

How is that not a waste of time? What's next, teaching kids to like candy?

Here is a though that many of the people doing operation coke hold and it looks like FSJ are not seeing because they are blinded by their own selfish desires is the plan will backfire on them

All it does is give att more fuel and evidence that the limits need to be put in place. It give att zero incentive not to do anything. Are people really that clueless that they are only encouraging a plan that they do not want to happen

The issue here isn't that you're protesting or even what you're protesting about: it's how you're doing it.

Exactly, feel free to protest but please don't screw up the lives of those who don't care about what you're protesting. It's like what I told the Critical Mass guys who were physically attacking me, "Yea, you throwing your bicycle at me somehow made me realize your cause is just."

After browsing the posts here it’s quite clear that many of us don’t quite understand the purpose of Operation Chokehold.

AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega “reportedly told attendees at a communications conference in New York that the network was planning to introduce a tiered pricing model to charge heavy data users. Forty percent of AT&T’s 3G bandwidth is consumed by 3 percent of Smartphone users..."

Given the amount of applications downloaded from the app store, we can assume that iPhone users are among the 3 percent stated above.

Plain and simple, Ralph de la Vega wants you to change the way you use your iPhone. The purpose of Operation Chokehold is to show AT&T that we as iPhone users don’t want to be any more restricted than we already are. True, Operation Chokehold may not “bring AT&T to their knees”, but they will see irregular data usage… and that’s enough to prove a point.

So, between 12 and 1 PM PST today I’ll be listening to Pandora over 3G.

So you are protesting something that does not even exist. That is even more idiotic than protesting something like poor network service. Last I checked, there is no tiered pricing model for the data plan. On top of that, if you are going to protest anything, do it by leaving AT&T and going to another network. Leave the innocent bystanders out of such nonsense.

So what about those of us who already always listen to their Sirius/XM app through their iHomes at work during the day? Are we among those that are rude and "taking down the network"? Or should we just use the iPod app until after 1pm PST?

I honestly haven't seen any degradation of service for the past 25 minutes, is it happening in any major cities anywhere?

I've been off these forums for a while... however, I will voice this loud and clear. I think it's the most childish thing ever.

All you will accomplish is nothing but give AT&T more reason to tier you. If your service with AT&T sucks because of your area, then why the hell did you buy an iPhone? Plain and simple, there are many other options out there.

I for one love the iPhone and AT&T's service. They have been spot on and never missed a beat with my service since Day 1 with the 1st Gen iPhone. Even with the 3GS I now own, everything is way better.

Here is a thought that many of the people doing operation coke hold

What the heck is operation coke hold?? Some call it operation choke hold or chicken choking or whatever.... So confusing...

I'll just sit back with a beer and choke whatever I can..... :D

QFT. However, my 3G is running strong as ever, and it's after 12:00 PST. This Operation is a complete FAIL, which is good.

Edit: I like Operation Coke Mold as a new name for this. :)

I may disagree with this way of expressing your anger but I understand your frustration. Check out these links:

http://gizmodo.com/5428717/att-has-...uction-every-quarter-since-the-iphones-launch

http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wordpress/general/is-att-failing-to-invest-enough-in-their-network

http://ycharts.com/companies/search?q=VZ vs T&c=cap_ex_percentage

In those three links it shows that AT&T has actually been spending less on infrastructure as they've been getting more revenues from an increasing iPhone userbase. Also Verizon has been spending more than AT&T. It shows AT&T are pocketing the cash.

This company is really disgusting.

OK. For the mislead sheep that are trying to say "Operation CHOKEPOINT" is merely to show up on ATT's radar by using more than normal bandwidth and defending it under the guise of "simple protest", you'd better rename the whole thing without using the word, "CHOKEPOINT".

If it were a simple protest, why would you use the word CHOKEPOINT which references bringing the network to a point of "choking" and denying other users the ability to use the network?

If anyone in this forum that condones this, operation(lol), would care to elaborate and explain the idea more, please do so. Otherwise it is truly a simple temper tantrum that achieves nothing.

-At&t knows the reasoning behind Operation Chokepoint, which is that iPhone users don't want data limitations.

Huh? I doubt 99% of iPhone users care about the arbitrary monthly bandwidth caps. They just want the network to be reliable. I fail to see how trying to overload the network accomplishes anything since people already know the places where AT&T is unreliable. Everyone already knows this.

Seems to be having some effect . . .

Operation Chokehold Brings Down (some of) ATT's Data Network

Remember Operation Chokehold? That plan by Fake Steve Jobs to overload AT&T's data network. Customers in some cities -- Salt Lake City (UT) and Dallas (TX) in particular -- are reporting that both 3G and EDGE have been brought down. How is your AT&T data connection?

3G service is stronger than ever here in New Orleans. In fact I find it speedier today than ever before... maybe we got upgraded to 7.2 Mb/s??

What baloney! I happened to read some of the posts to one of these articles reporting on Chokehold and people were reporting problems before 12:00 PST. Soooo, the problems had nothing to do with Choke Mold.

Thank you dumb ass for encoogaing att limits on the data. God I hope att presses charges against fsj for his ddos attack and I will laugh my ass off.

Are the iPhone babies really that stupid not to think that att will not just use this a proof the limits need to go in place. Dumb asses
