That's part of the problem, the U.S. has no decent mobile carriers. It was only until I moved to Europe and saw the choices we have here that I realised how pathetic mobile service in the U.S. really is...
Oh, and this moronic Operation Chokehold thing is completely juvenile. I can't think of any good that could possibly come from it...

Oh trust me I know. I know all too well. I'd kill to have more choice and better plans.

I don't think Americans will ever get used to the fact of paying full price for a phone and not being locked into a contract.

Barely. I'd be surprised if they're not bought out by another company next year, last rumors I heard was that T-Mobile was making a play for them. I'm not sure why you would want Sprint, but perhaps that's why I'm not a big corporate exec...I have common sense :D

And lastly, I would participate in rdowns' chicken choking protest, but I'll be at work. Maybe when I get home.

People use Sprint because they have cheap plans and apparently a decent network (depending where you live).

Sprint bit off more than they can chew with the Nextel merger. That and atrocious customer service (it has apparently gotten better). They are lucky to be still hanging around.

This is sad. People signed contracts amd because they can not get what they want they do DDoS attack on att. If you really want to send a message leave att. If yo want to send a message to apple who signed the contract with att boycott apple until it opens up. I can promise you a boycott of apple would make them move really fast on putting the iPhone on verizon and others.
But no instead it is act like big babies. I hope who ever takes part gets nailed. I would not be surpised if their is something in the contract that says you can not do something like this in doing so you are breaking you contract and att can cancel it and then slap you with a ETF becuase you broke the contract.

What AT&T should do is change the rate paln for data users, make the 5% who use 75%(or whatever the figures are) of the data pay more for it. Those who use a gig or two stay the same.

There are far better ways to waste time while on unemployment. Oh yeah, that's right. I'll be busy trying to find a frickin' job.

Now if I was 14 it would be a totally different ballgame.

Best case scenario. You hear someone all pissed off because they can't check facebook.
Worst case scenario. AT&T says "Well you all want to be bitches and clog the network, fine. We'll just start charging iPhone customers more for data usage.

It's loose loose here people. Thinks abouts its!

I think the noon Pacific start time might be a bit early for some of the idiots that would participate. They are likely still in bed.

My take is that this plan is not well thought out.

As others have said, it will not help the cause. It will only hurt legitimate users at that time.

A good way to make your vote known in the commercial market is vote with your dollars. Leave AT&T and use a different provider.

On Friday, December 18, at noon Pacific time, we will attempt to overwhelm the AT&T data network and bring it to its knees. The goal is to have every iPhone user (or as many as we can) turn on a data intensive app and run that app for one solid hour. Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments. THe idea is we’ll create a digital flash mob. We’re calling it in Operation Chokehold. Join us and speak truth to power!

Tell me what is the difference between AT&T and Verizon, I left Verizon bc of all their new limitations, everything they had priced fairly has gone way up in price, and you get the same features as AT&T. I used to pay $4.99 for insurance with a $50 deductible, now they charge $8 and $90 Deduct...

I went there the other day and by the time I was done getting a BB with all the features I needed I was paying more then my AT&T with my iphone so I am staying with AT&T and moving my sons phones over to a family plan.

Let's face it if the iPhone was on Verizon ppl would be complaining about VZ, also soon everyone will be on 4G and all the traffic will be the same, I can not wait to see what Verizon Service is like when they join the rest of the world, now they live in a Silo called CDMA.

I guess bc AT&T works well for me, I am sticking with them, however I will never spend $299 for an iPhone again, I should have stayed with my 16GB 3G it worked perfect and was only $99

Did I miss anything? Did this nonsense happen and go totally unnoticed? LOLz.

OTOH, Operation Choke Your Chicken was a complete success.

You are right, Operation CYC was a total success and since I can't really choke a chicken I improvised. The neighbors are likely talking more than AT&T is. ;)

Huh?

I seriously do wonder.

If people really make an attempt at this, will anything noticeable even happen? Imagine thousands of people participate... those thousands of people could be spread across several cities in several states. I don't think that would be noticed. People in New York and San Francisco already complain that coverage is terrible, so for them it may just be business as usual. Here in the Houston area, coverage is great and I hardly ever have problems. Obviously, people using up data in CA and NY will not affect me. And vice versa.

Furthermore, how will those people in NY and CA get on the network to "bring it to its knees" when they already can't get on the network because it's already been "brought to its knees?" And coordinating thousands of people who all have individual schedules to deal with? Across sub-networks that don't affect each other? It just doesn't sound practicable or even feasible.

But I'm sure interested to see what really happens!

I forget about this every time I leave MR. Pretty sure I'll be busy with something a lil more important when the time comes (not that that's hard to accomplish).

Remember how they said the AT&T network was going to fail when we got MMS? Remember the outcome? To remind you, it was no big deal.

This stupid Operation Chokefold will be a blip compared to when we got MMS.

exactly...

the fact that AT&T is trying to limit us smartphone users data usage on an unlimited pan is total BS!!!!

did you happen to catch this post?
https://www.macrumors.com/2009/12/1...one-is-to-blame-for-atandts-network-failures/

maybe ATT isn't so bad after all, in fact, that says that it may be the strongest network out there, but the iPhone utilizes it poorly

also, very very few users actually use enough data in a month to be restricted by ATT, and this won't make them unrestricted the data. Net Neutrality laws, which are sure to be passed eventually, and hopefully sooner rather than later, will prevent this from ever happening again. It isn't a boycott that you want, its an interest in politics from all the iPhone users
