It's immature and only hurts one's fellow AT&T users. If there was a useful plan, such as "cancel your AT&T service" day, that'd be a lot smarter.
Of course, I still wouldn't participate. I get good service from AT&T. The FAN discount doesn't hurt either. ;)

This is honestly a stupid idea, this whole operation chokehold thing. If you want to prove a point, switch carriers.

Right, because that's easy to do when you're locking into a contract with them and their crappy service...

All this is going to do is give AT&T another reason to put a cap on data usage. How in anyway is using MORE data going to make AT&T not want to put a data cap on us?

I really do like AT&T but they need to do something about their maps and data plans. Verizon maps and service is way better. AT&T needs to get on the same page. So I will take part in this

Same here but im not gonna sit back and watched my unlimited data plan get capped because AT&T's network can't handle the heavy data usage of todays smartphone users.

So you're going to screw me, my wife, and my parents over, who are legitimate users on MY family plan (yes, my plan, and I'm the primary), because you think they are limiting your unlimited data plan?

Sad, and Pathetic. You are no more entitled to your unlimited data plan than I am with mine. I normally wouldn't care what you do with your plan on ATT's network, but when what you do interferes with my plan and my business that I am paying for on ATT's network, that's where I draw the line.

If you do this, I seriously hope you get caught, your service gets dropped PERMANENTLY, and perhaps a lawsuit filed, because you are, premeditatedly and maliciously, going to cause a Denial of Service to millions of people. The FCC, will NOT look happily on that.

And personally, I'd love to see you squirm.

BL.

"Operation chokehold"?!

HAHAHA

a little bit of tea came out of my nose then....

Damn, you Americans crack me up :)

Right, because that's easy to do when you're locking into a contract with them and their crappy service...

and even if we did pay all their fees to get out of their contract, they still have a monopoly on the 3G frequencies that the iphone uses... so it's pretty much impossible to switch! :(

Just a thought....

Perhaps a more effective response would a petition presented to ATT, the government agencies that regulate the communications business and perhaps elected officials, pointing out that it would benefit the country to force telecommunication companies to invest in infrastructure. Just saying...

Wasn't the FCC investigating the exclusivity agreements between phones and carriers a while ago? Anyone know the end result of that? Only saying because something like this would kind of force that issue, one network can't handle all the bandwidth. Opening it up to other carriers would kind of even out the load..? Also, people who are against this because they're worried about their service: the people who take part in this aren't the people you have the true problem with.

This is just childish. I'll be doing my own protest and choking my chicken at the prescribed time.

Don't even worry about slower 3G speeds. I for one use a lot of data, around 2-3GB a month. But, I do not like the notion of "punishing" people who use more data than others. If AT&T does go with some sort of punishment, Verizon will have a ball. I can see it now (Start with a maps commercial then fade into this) "See, we showed you AT&T's failed coverage, but even with the little coverage they have, they can't even support your data or calls. That's why they're punishing their high data users with *insert regulation*. Come to Verizon, where you can talk/surf anywhere and everywhere, AND as much as you want with no worries about *insert AT&T's regulation*.

FAIL. Verizon has a 5GB limit on their "unlimited" plans as well. Then there's that problem of using other apps when you're on a phone call.

As I'll be choking someone's chicken at the prescribed time.

At best we get T-mobile, which again, on any network the iPhone is going to problematic unless the network is supped up.

And no pics for you!!

T-mobile's network would definitely crumble but if Apple uses that GSM/CDMA chip it can go to anyone.

I say let all the carriers have at it, competition would be a good thing.

I has a sad now :(

Competition is great but Verizon is clearly taking a stand against the iPhone. I want Verizon but I want my iPhone a bit more it seems. And **** whoever can't call me ... it's not like anyone ever does.

I didn't specifically say Verizon ;) Don't forget about Sprint.

Give it to all the carriers that way people can ****.

I'd call you, but you won't give me your number.

949-4 ... haha I thought you had it for some weird reason from PayPal ... not that I'd expect a call but yeah.

Oh yeah Sprint. Do they still exist? :D :p

*fires off a PM to get the rest of that number*

*also doubles checks PayPal*

;)

Apparently they do! Who would've thunk it! Last time I heard, their Boost Mobile business is doing better than they are.

I did not know boost = sprint. Nice.

Oh and if the # contains 413 then it is wrong. ;)

That's part of the problem, the U.S. has no decent mobile carriers. It was only until I moved to Europe and saw the choices we have here that I realised how pathetic mobile service in the U.S. really is...
Oh, and this moronic Operation Chokehold thing is completely juvenile. I can't think of any good that could possibly come from it...

But, but, Verizon is the Jesus Network. They'd never do that, would they?:(

I also plan on participating in rdowns protest, but I'll be getting assistance from an expert in said "choking." ;)

exactly...

the fact that AT&T is trying to limit us smartphone users data usage on an unlimited pan is total BS!!!!

And all "Operation Chokehold" is going to do is prove to AT&T execs exactly why they need to limit data.

Don't even worry about slower 3G speeds. I for one use a lot of data, around 2-3GB a month. But, I do not like the notion of "punishing" people who use more data than others. Verizon has a 5GB cap on their "unlimited" data plans, in fact, I think all of the major carriers do. And if the iPhone went to Verizon, you don't think they'd have any network problems? The popularity of the iPhone (and other smart phones) is growing quicker than companies can upgrade their networks, and upgrading a network, building towers and expanding coverage isn't simple. There's a lot of government red tape when dealing with frequencies and land where cell towers are to be built. If millions of people signed up for Verizon tomorrow to get the latest smart phone, their network would be crippled and brought down to its knees.

Oh yeah Sprint. Do they still exist? :D :p
Barely. I'd be surprised if they're not bought out by another company next year, last rumors I heard was that T-Mobile was making a play for them. I'm not sure why you would want Sprint, but perhaps that's why I'm not a big corporate exec...I have common sense :D

And lastly, I would participate in rdowns' chicken choking protest, but I'll be at work. Maybe when I get home.
