Had a MPB 16 base i7 model driving my desk top set up, purchased a base MBA to try out.

I have moderate needs, not as Pro as some here, and not as basic as emails and spreadsheets.

Decided after 10 days it can do everything my 16 can, and sold to maximize resale value now.

First time i have rotated an apple product that quickly, my IMac i loved for 4 years before getting the MBP16.

Cant say i am not somewhat sad lol, when deleting the MPB16 was a hard experience, such a gorgeous machine.

Anyways it is just a temporary machine, one i am very happy with thus far, till the new bigger machines come next year.

Had a 2010 MacBook Pro ran it into the ground a year and a half ago. Then got an Asus Windows laptop. That crapped out on me two weeks ago. Got a superb Black Friday deal on the M1 Air and haven't looked back since. Always felt a little wrong and dirty using Windows like it was a mistress. So glad I'm back in the Apple ecosystem, forgive me Tim for my dirty fling.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there going to be a 1TB version of the MBP 13” with the M1 chip? Currently all I see is a 1TB option with the intel chip?
Thanks

Finally upgrading from mid year 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch. Getting the M1 MacBook Pro 13 inch, 16 GB 1 TB.
Will I see much improvement? It’s only going on seven years old For current Mac.

NO MORE BEACH BALLS!!! Boy will I miss those.......not. Also it’s winter here in Michigan, any suggestions on replacement heater/coffee warmer. Won’t need my 100 foot extension cord for portability any more either.

Still have fond memories of my first Macintosh 512K. Had that huge carry back. AND upgrade to added extrenal second 3 1/2 in floppy drive.

If you select the M1 model you are then given the option to increase the storage to 1TB or 2TB.

You are making it up, aren't you?
It’s my sons machine. I put in a new SSD but the hinge is now broken and too complex to repair.

Been hanging on for years, due to (lack of) finances, but am waiting on an M1 Air 8/512 to arrive any day now to replace my (early) 2009 MacBook Pro 17.

The MBP 17 I've kept going by replacing the HDD & Optical drive with SSDs, which made a huge difference. I've dropped it so many times it's practically indestructible (don't make 'em like they used to). But the screen is fading and the video out doesn't work any more and I need that for Zoom online work stuff.

Got the MBA 8/512 because of the great price. Also, if finances improve (*cough* covid *cough*) then I thought I can always move over to a new MBP 16 with an M1x or M2 chip or whatever they come out with next. The 13" screen hmm not sure. Need to see as I've loved the 17" screen and was so glad I got that model back in the day…

I'm upgrading from a 2011 13” MBP to an M1 Air with 512gb storage and 16gb ram. The 2011 can handle absolutely basic tasks but anything a little more demanding kills it. The fan goes constantly to 6200rpm even though i already renewed the thermal paste.
I am really excited for the M1 which will be arriving on monday. Difference will be night and day.

I am impressed someone is still using a 2008 MacBook Air.

On the other hand, I don't understand people say that 2011-era Macs are bad at anything. They are fine for office work and browsing, and you can even use Zoom on them (without special effects).

Placed an order for the upgraded 8 core GPU MBA with 16GB/1TB. Coming from an early 2015 13” MBP i7/16GB/512GB.

I almost went with a MBP 16GB/1TB, but I decided that the touch bar wasn’t for me. Looking forward to the fanless Mac!

Did anybody answer this because I really want to know this too!

Fastest and easiest (Assuming it's your own files and not Apple Music, for which you need do nothing bar log-in), is to copy the iTunes Library either by direct connection Mac-to-Mac, or if you have a nice fast external SSD, stick it on there, copy it to the new Mac. Place it wherever you'd like, then hold the Option key, click on the Apple Music icon and select 'Choose Library..' pick the library you copied across and you're done.

Thanks for the advice.

Exactly what files (apart from my imported music) do I have to copy across?

I’ll be connecting my MBP directly to my iMac.

To M1 MBA 8/16/1T, from 12" MB 2016 m5 8/512 & 27" iMac late 2015 24/512 (got in March 2017!).
Originally I ordered M1 MBP 16/1T but canceled it and went for MBA because I thought MBA's keyboard could slightly better for typing after reading and watching a lot of reviews.
Actually I'll keep both 12" MB and 27" iMac.

If you have iTunes organising and consolidating all of your music, or in other words, when you add music to your library it copies them to your iTunes Folder. Then it's ridiculously simple. You just navigate to [your HDD]\Users\[your user folder]\Music\

Inside that Music folder there will be one called iTunes, copy that folder and its entire contents to the same location on your new Mac and that's all there is to it (other than the importing step I mentioned before).

If however, your music files are stored in an external location and iTunes isn't consolidating them, then you do the same as above, but also copy across (or connect the external drive, whatever it may be) the folder where you store your music.

One thing I didn't mention before, when you're importing your library on the new Mac - by holding the option key and clicking on the icon for the Music app. You navigate to the location of your iTunes folder and select the iTunes Library.itl file inside of it. Jobs a good 'un.

Thanks a lot, buddy.

Hope it works out that simple!

I set up my library completely by playlists, not albums. I import a CD, then create a playlist for it and drag the tracks into iTunes.

Hope your approach will still work.

All of my music is in the Music folder.

So long as you copy everything across to the same location, so the iTunes folder I mentioned and your music folder (if you have it separate from the iTunes folder) you’ll be fine.

It will open up with all playlists and so on intact. It’s a process I’ve done more times than I can remember in the past couple of decades.

So if I deleted a lot of music from my 2013 MBP to free up space I'm screwed? I was deleting files because the 251 gigs of memory was nearly used up. I legit only have like 15 gigs left and my software is macOS Sierra.

Can you believe I'm still contemplating returning my M1? The more I read about the rumored 14 inch with a redesign the more I am tempted. So if I keep it I can "rent" this one until that is out and cut my losses when I sell the M1 13" MBP through whatever outlet. I'm incredibly torn because I'm losing patience and I want a new laptop (especially when I compare it with the speed of my 2013 MBP but I'm usually the type of person that buys things to keep. Argh... this is so frustrating. I hate being impatient.
