I'll be getting an M1 MBA or MBP (probably the latter) to replace my late 2013 MBP - the best computer I've ever owned, but starting to show it's age when presented with any kind of heavy workload.
I have the M1 MBA 8GB 512GB after upgrading from the same machine as you - which I agree has been the best computer I've ever owned. I started to get regular crashes on the 2013 machine with Catalina, then more so with Big Sur so decided it was time. Love the MBA, screen is bright and clear (my MBP 2013 was badly delaminated), still getting used to the keyboard which IMO is not quite as good, battery life is incredible (I would get about 2 hours out of my MBP on a good day), everything so responsive.
Only slight hiccup was yesterday when it ground to a halt (fixed with a reboot) running Adobe Acrobat in edit mode with a big doc. I'm putting that down to the Adobe software.
I'll rebuild the MBP - my son is waiting to ditch his HP Windows laptop!

2018 15" Macbook Pro -> 2020 M1 Mackbook Pro

Hand was forced by the terribly broken keyboard... like really bad. And my inability to be without a computer for more than a few hours for business reasons. Still, excited.

Coming from a 2016 12" MacBook, looking forward to more fanless computing on M1 MBA - only much faster!
I am planning to do some ARM assembly ☺️
Can't wait.

Haven’t updated yet but MacMini will be my choice and will be going from a mid 2012 MacPro which has long outlived it’s usefulness. I just want the latest macOS
I’m also looking forward to once again working with the latest MacOS.

Coming from an early-2011 MacBook Pro 13" that has Geekbench 5 scores about on par with the iPhone 6S (if the scores cross-platform are comparable).

Earlier this year I merely wanted to them to release a new MBP that fixed the stupid butterfly keyboard. Now in December having a MBP with a single-core that's more powerful than any Intel Mac ever released is insane.
You went with the same MBP configuration as I’ve ordered.

I had a 2019 16” MacBook Pro i9 which I sold a couple of months ago expecting the ARM MacBook release and had been using my older 2017 12” MacBook as my everyday system until my MBA arrived 10 days ago. I must say, the new Air (16GB/1TB model) feels speedier/as speedy than the 16” MBP, even in the Adobe apps opening the same files. Everyday tasks are much more responsive, especially multitasking. A few quirks, like Lightroom breaking for me with the newest Big Sur beta, but otherwise this might be my favourite Mac in years.
I’m on the same 12” MacBook. Did you notice any real changes to daily use for things like browsing the web and ms office?

2011 MBA to M1 MBA. Believe it or not that old one is still very quick, with only one app open. Anything more than that the fan will come out full like a jet engine.

My wife’s 2011 MBP still going strong though.
That’s because your thermal paste needs to be redone and heat sink cleaned out. Paste goes bad after a while and the cooler gets filled with dust. Machine will be back to running hard in no time. If you’re happy with using it as a daily driver then just get its serviced or do it yourself. It’s a fun 30min project.

Is there any tutorial somewhere?

I have a 2019 iMac for work but I've decided to upgrade my 2015 MacBook Pro. This way, I can test it out and see if I can upgrade my iMac when they release that form factor with the new chips. Although it could be a while for the 27" iMac.

Upgraded from an early 2015 13” MacBook Pro. I will miss having all the ports. But my new MacBook Air base model 7 core gpu it’s amazing!!! Using it mainly for work. Web, MS Teams/Office, etc.

It’s definitely much more responsive, even in Intel apps that haven’t been updated. I use Zoom, Teams, Outlook, etc. a lot working at home and they are much easier to switch between with a lot less lag. It’s not that the 12” was slow, but the new M1 system simply responds instantly to almost everything. The only slow task I’ve tried thus far was in Lightroom Classic, flipping through RAW files, and I’d hardly blame the MBA for that given how unoptimized that app is.

If I finally buy an M1 MacBook Air, my last MacBook was a 2010 13” MacBook pro (Core2Duo), but to be fair, I’ve been using a 2014 Mac mini for the past couple of years, and also an 11” iPad Pro.

I bought this two devices, first, to make the wait for a worthy MacBook more easy (I didn’t want to get a butterfly keyboard Intel MBP, then they removed the option of function keys on MBP, and the only Apple laptop without a touch bar was the Air... but having a passively cooled Intel MacBook Air with a fan on the case didn’t look much appealing to me, so I kept waiting until the MacBook Air/Pro was really worth it). Also, I wanted to try the combination of a desktop mac + an iPad Pro for portability, and although the 11” iPad Pro is an awesome device, sometimes I still miss having a mac with me.
