Seconds.

AS for you other question. 3 nights ago - I used disc utility and wiped my SSD. I then did a complete install of the OS over the internet. When it was finished, the newest El Capitan was taking about 15gb on the drive.

You don't have to take delivery on the Mac. Just call Apple to let them know you made a mistake. it will be painful, but not as painful as knowing you made a mistake and living with it for years. Re-order with the 2TB fusion....

It is unlikely you need 32GB of RAM either. 16 is plenty, 24GB more than enough if you simply add 2X8GB
I have made the "mistake" of ordering a 1TB Fusion drive in my iMac that is due to arrive in two days.

My usage is:

- Web browsing
- Shell
- Various IDEs like XCode and PHPStorm
- Spotify, Skype, Pages
- Movie watching

I "very" rarely do video or photo editing.

So my questions are:

Does anyone have any hard data on how much space the OS takes of the 24GB?

Does anyone have any idea of how much slower machines with a 1TB Fusion and 32GB RAM are waking up? Is it a serious issue or just a few more seconds?

Some facts would be nice on the issue!

I'm trying to make a rational decision (with facts) before canceling. Some benchmarks would be great -- or some tests to see how much the spinner is being hit with typical use.

There is a lot of hysteria and anger at Apple about it, but would it actually make a difference for people who aren't regularly working with larger media files.

I've had my computer about 2 weeks now and just getting it up to speed with the programs I use frequently. These include some of the Microsoft Office suite and some creative cloud applications. Already I'm at 25GB. System files are about 8GB and the library is about 7gb. Large media files you don't necessarily need on solid state anyhow -- I have mine on an external 4TB RAID. it's all the system files you want to run lightening quick and 24GB solid state isn't enough.

Ordered i5/512/395x on 2 Nov/15, earliest estimated delivery date 13 Nov/15. Here's hoping they beat that date by a few days (as they did the last time I ordered an iMac).

I canceled my order with Bhphoto and ordered from Apple..

Same specs: 27" i7, 512SSD and M395X

Estimate delivery Nob 13-17

I would save on taxes from BH, but just in case I have issues with the iMac I rather deal directly with Apple than with Bhphoto

We did a test run in the Apple store with the 1TB fusion drive and the 2TB fusion drive iMac 27" models. They both booted up within a few seconds, and finished within milliseconds of each other. I just got my 1TB fusion model and its screaming fast. The 5400RPM 21" HDD without fusion took considerably longer.

Upgraded from a 2010 MBP.

They do that on most products. They give the impression that they "over deliver"

Finally treated myself to one on Thursday, i7/256/395x/Trackpad, delivery due on Monday (UK)

Will stick another 16GB in myself and it'll be my new photo editing machine.

I Ordered yesterday during lunch time and by night it was preparing for shipment

I have a feeling it will ship today.. fingers crossed!!

What many people don't realise is that Apple delay shipment by one hour for every time the order status is checked. Seems to accord with my experience (but then I'm an economist).;)

Ordered i7/395X/512 on Nov 3rd, and is currently being prepared for shipment to the Netherlands, expected delivery is sometime between Nov 10th and Nov 12th. The Apple Care booklet has already arrived, as well as the Kingston 4x8GB RAM. Looking forward to crunch some numbers and play games on this machine. Really curious to see how OpenTTD will run in 5k resolution.

Newbie here posting, reader for a long time. I work as a graphic designer full time and now i'm doing some freelance at home, it was time to replace my mid 2010 21.5 imac.

Ordered today the mk482lla sku: i5 3.3/395/2tb fd from amazon and added 16gb ram for a 24gb total . I wanted the ssd 512 but the money savings hold me.

The SSD 512 would be 2499 + tax +112 ram =$2898 buying over apple.
On amazon the mk482lla its on sale at 2,199.99 and no tax. in my country + ram = $2311. Thats $587 less than the ssd version, enough to make me forget the faster write times.

The 2TB fusion is a good choice if you're on a budget. You can always add an external SSD or RAID later if need be.

That's my tough, and if an 5400rpm hdd worked for 5 years for me, the FD would be good enough, because mainly i work most of the time on vectors.

My i7 came in yesterday, just in time for my birthday weekend. It's been a joy loading up programs and organizing all my files I had stored on 2 different externals for a long time. The 3TB Fusion Drive will be plenty of space for my music needs! Plus, 32GB of RAM from OWC will be here on Tuesday. I couldn't be happier!

I've wanted an iMac for the longest time. Always felt it was a little too pricey for my income, so I've suffered with crappy Hackintoshes that ended up being too unstable for my tastes. Had a MacMini for a while, but have wanted something more powerful.

Finally got a good job and a raise recently, so I finally took the plunge! Order just went through for the 27" Retina with a 4.0Ghz and 512GB SSD. Everything else is stock. I will upgrade the RAM myself and go with 16GB. Very excited! This has been tempting me for so long, it feels great to have finally pulled the trigger. Get a discount through work, so that made things nicer and the lady I ordered with through MY-APPLE gave me free overnight shipping. Estimated to arrive Nov 11 - 13.

Can't wait!
