I took my 24" dell monitor and rotated it into portrait mode to work as a bin monitor for Premiere Pro CC. Saves a bit of desk space and a second monitor is always super helpful, even with a 27" monster iMac. I guess that won't work with your setup :)

Yeah, I'd love to keep it, but I need to offset the cost of this beast! Plus it's hard to look at the blurry text with this massive retina display next to it ;)

What do people think about getting the i7 or the i5?

I don't think i'm ever going to need the i7.

I do photo editing in lightroom and i'm going to order with a 256gb SSD and use external drives for media storage.

Also don't think i'll need any difference in graphics card so i was going to go with the base?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Need your help, just got a new iMac and works great but I have two questions I can't find an answer to.

1) I have added a picture, I'm seeing backlight bleeding. Do you have the same or is this faulty?
2) I have a MBPro occasionally I hear the fans but my iMac is continuously fanning : ) do you have the same?

Any feedback is welcome! Thank you all.

My fans turn on for a little bit when I'm watching a TV show in flash, but it doesn't last long and it is quiet.

All monitors that I've ever owned have some backlight bleeding... Mine doesn't look as bad as yours though.

has anyone seen a review for the 27 inch imac with skylake posted anywhere or on youtube? i see unboxings on youtube but that's it.. lots of 21 inch love but not much on the 27. Please provide links. TIA.

So, yesterday was a good day with the new iMac, but today wasn't.

Everything worked fine yesterday, and it was a screamer! Then I went ahead and used migration assistant to transfer my old data over. First the whole system started acting weird with what seemed to be GPU bugs. Then, the drive wasn't recognizable. A bunch of weird stuff... Anyhow, I think Apple is now sending me a replacement. Since it was a BTO machine, I can't just swap it out in the Apple store. :(

So you think i should return it? I walked in at the Apple Store in Florida Mall and they said it's not normall either.

Ordered i7/M395X/1TBSSD on Sunday evening (25th) and it is out for delivery this morning (30th). Not bad! I'm in UK, tracking information with UPS has origin of UK so looks like it was built here, possibly Ireland?

Yes. There are reports of iMacs being assembled in Ireland and in California as well as China.

I was so sure about the i5 but now everyone is making me panic and think i should get the i7.

I'm in no rush anyway so tbh i can just wait
As always, we need to know what you are doing with the computer. The i7 supports multi-threaded operation especially helpful for high end video and audio production. The thing that helps most in day to day operation is arguably the flash storage as boot up times and program launching are nearly instantaneous -- and coming from a traditional hard drive you will be wowed.
