So for anyone wondering similar. It went to Preparing to Dispatch last night, and has been dispatched this afternoon (24th), to be delivered 26th. So about a 2/3 day turn around for me.

We waited 2 weeks for ours

WELL worth the wait.. who needs the mac pro when you've got this ?

Utter monster in the best possible way

It's amazing - and looks stunning ,like bang & olufsen if they made a computer

Utterly superb

I posted this on another threat, hope to get some answers. My order of the 27" retina iMac changed yesterday to shipping to store. How long does it takes approximately to get to the store normally? I'm asking because it says in about 9 days and that seems quite a lot of time.

Just received delivery of my 5K. Well worth the upgrade from a Mid-2011 Mini with SSD. The screen is frigging amazing :)

Just hit the order button on a Retina 5K beast!!

  • 4 GHz i7
  • 8 GB ram (already purchased 32 GB kit for it off Newegg as I see apple is back to remarkably over charging for ram upgrades)
  • 1 TB SSD
  • AMD R9 M395x w/ 4 GB
  • Magic Trackpad
The last iMac I owned was a 24" 2007 iMac, but I only had it about 6 months before switching to a laptop.

I'm upgrading from a 2013 MBA (Core i5 1.3 GHz with 4 GB ram).

Can't wait to use Lightroom and my astrophotography image stacking software on this thing!

Just ordered this one yesterday except: 2TB Fusion Drive and no country kit. What is a country kit?

I got neither Swedish fermented herring nor a Midsummer pole in my box so guess it's the keyboard config Apple refers to, the stock adaptor plug on the end of the laptop's power adaptor. Basically all the stuff that makes your computer "native" to your country.

I've ordered my very first mac OSX based device 2 days ago with this config:

3.2GHz QC i5, TB up to 3.6GHz / 8GB 1867MHz DDR3L (2x4GB) / 1TB Fusion Drive / AMD Radeon R9 M390 w/2GB
Apple Magic Mouse/Apple WL Kybd+3 year apple care.

The mac is ordered through a 'Privat PC program' that allows employees to buy a computer at a low cost. I have to pay around 50% of the price at the apple webshop which is a good deal.
The disadvantage of this is that we can only choose 1 combination, I tried to upgrade to a SSD, but it isn't allowed.

I plan to upgrade the ram to crucial 2x8GB (and throw out the 2x4GB). As a light user, do I need to upgrade to 32GB or is 16 Gb enough? I don't do anything with photoshop/lightroom, just email, internet, netflix,.. so I guess I never fill the complete 16GB. The ram upgrade cost around 100€ per 16GB.

Due to the lack of an SSD I plan to work with a USB 3.0 (with UASP) external SSD (samsung 850 pro) and install OSX on that one, does that work a bit snappy and responsive?

No Mater, you will be amazed with that computer, you didn't even need to upgrade the ram, but it won't hurt. Nice purchase.

There is no need to throw out the stock RAM. Just add the 2x8GB in the two empty slots. That way you will have 24GB RAM, which should be more than enough for many years into the future with what you are using the iMac for. As Dragoro says, you probably don't even need to upgrade the RAM at all for now.

OS X will run from the 24GB SSD inside the computer, so the OS should be pretty responsive. For all other files, yes an external SSD will most likely be faster. However, with what you are planning on using it for I would suggest that you try out the stock configuration first. If you are not satisfied with the speed then using an external SSD for all of your programs might be the way to.

Forgot to mention, changes are high that I will run VM's and use remote desktop on the mac for work. I regulary work from home and a 27" will be better to work than a 15" laptop screen. So 8GB of ram will be on the low side anyway.

For the SSD I will try the standard configuration with the external SSD for programs as this is a device I already own and don't need to buy.

For VM's it is very useful with more RAM yes. But as I said, leave the stock RAM in the machine so you overall have more :)

The SSD in an external USB 3 drive should work well, and since you already have it there is no reason not to use it. The only thing is that USB does not support TRIM. How big a deal this is when it is only running programs I do not know.

Ordered my 27" on Nov 27th. I was planning on buying it either way, but my employer decided to pay for it. ;)
  • 3.3Ghz i5
  • 8 GB ram (have 32GB of HyperX 2133Mhz in waiting)
  • 512GB SSD
  • AMD R9 M395x w/ 4 GB
Shipping has been frustrating at best. Apple estimated Dec 4th-8th, so I called and asked to upgrade the order to the fastest shipping method (1-3 day). Phone tech said it was already set to that, despite it saying otherwise on my order page. I decided to let it go and trust that their backend would be more accurate. FedEx tracking# showed that the label was printed and sent to FedEx, but it wasn't picked up for 2 days. Estimated date said the 8th. Well, that day came and went. Called FedEx, they said it wouldn't be here until the 10th... but the tracking page says "pending, no date available". o_O

Thats strange. On the day of delivery apple sent me a message that the computer would be delayed a few days, but it ended up arriving on the original day anyways.

Too funny. Thanks for the info. Might as well set this puter up.
Ordered on the 6th and was at the Apple Store on the 16th.

Ordered mine yesterday with an Apple reseller (Belgium):
4gh i7
8gb ram can upgrade myself later on if needed)
256ssd
MX390
Applecare (bought it as business, so now I have 3 years of warranty instead of 1).

Delivery will take 2-3 weeks, with holidays coming up.
This is gonna be my first iMac, so really looking forward to it :).

I have my new late '15 27" iMac sitting in the living room waiting for christmas morn. My wife picked it up for me for buying her a macbook pro. Still have my late '11 27" running in great shape.

Congrats and enjoy! I'm sure it's hard to wait (Mine arrived late last week - but not in the box anymore :))

Same configuration to be delivered tomorrow. Maxed out my iMac in 2009 and it has served me very well. Decided to max out a new one to replace it. Another 6 years is my evergreen program.

Ordered it last Saturday with an Apple reseller, 2-3 weeks delivery tho. Can't wait!

Nothing compared to me, I ordered the 3th of December and having to wait till 4/01-15/02. But that's because it's with an employer program, that it cost me half the price now makes it up for the waiting period.

PS: I'm from Belgium too and it will be my first OSX device, I only have an iPhone 6s (from work) as other apple device :).

After sitting for a week in my basement I finally got to open it and set it up. It's got 4GHz/1TB SSD/R395x/32GB 2133 MHz ram and it's dead silent. No dead pixels and the screen is gorgeous. It shipped from Fremont, CA -- does that mean this iMac was built in the US? Every BTO Mac i've ever bought shipped from China. Haven't jumped all the way into it because of christmas duties but so far it's perfect :)
