So, I'm new here !

That's my configuration:

  • 4.0GHz QC i7,
  • 8GB 1867MHz DDR3L
  • 256GB Flash Storage
  • AMD Radeon R9 M395 2GB
  • MAGIC MOUSE 2
:)

I tried to custom order an iMac at the Shibuya Apple Store today (Tokyo, Japan). And apparently it is not possible to get a non-standard configuration when buying at the store. Having a tourist visa in Japan enables you to buy tax-free, and I wanted to use that versus buying online. However I do not want any of the standard configurations, so no new iMac for me this time :( I have been looking forward to this purchase for months now, so I am a bit bummed out about it.

Sorry. :(. Is the tax so high in Japan that it makes an online purchase prohibitive?

It is only 8% (it is 25% in Denmark where I am from). But adding that makes the difference between buying it here (+ import tax in Denmark) extremely small compared to just buying it in Denmark. Furthermore I was already stretching my budget and the extra 8% just makes it too much for me financially (I am still in grad school for another half a year). So I will just have to wait until I get a job and have a higher income. Which is a shame because I could really use it to help me with my master thesis.

That's really too bad... But it sounds like you have a very good sense of your current financial limitations and you are wise to understand that and not overextend yourself.

Best of luck with the remainder of your studies.

Thank you very much. And yeah, it is too bad. I was really looking forward to it. Oh well, I guess it is still something to look forward to just in a slightly more distant future. Maybe the late 2016 in Space Grey with Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 :p

The 1TB Fusion on the new iMacs (2015) only comes with 24GB Flash (as opposed to the 2TB which comes with 128GB Flash). So hopefully you got a 1TB NVRAM FLASH drive as the 1TB fusion is not recommended!

Recommended in what way? For what usage?

For a normal everyday users needs to "surf around the web and click some links" it will be more than good enough...

Recommended in terms of price/performance. If you're spending that much on a computer, a very high end machine, no need to scrimp on a small percentage of the total price to get an underpowered fusion drive. Better to bump up to the 2TB for $200 more. I'd like to think that anyone buying a $2000+ computer is a bit more than a normal everyday user....

I ordered mine today.. BTO.

Do they ship via UPS or FedEx? I had did a pickup at UPS for my 6s Plus on opening launch. Was fairly straightforward when doing pickup through UPS... Wondering to do the same with this order.

I don't know if this is true for all, but mine came FedEx (signature required).

And congrats :)

Thanks!

Just got the shipping notification that it's shipping via UPS... So, I can do a pick up at my local UPS CC. When I was ordering it gave me a Jan 26-28... But when checking on it through apple.com it changed it to Jan 21-23.

Now, when I check the Apple Store App it gives me the Jan 26-28. I have the tracking number.. I'm waiting for UPS updates it to the point I get a correct date.

iMac 27" 4GHz Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, M395X with magic keyboard and magic trackpad 2. I have a unused magic mouse set aside for it which I think I will prefer because I can still use it if the batteries die. Unlike the new keyboard and trackpad the mouse is useless while charging.

Ordered January 13th 2016 and just shipped today (January 15th 2016) with a ETA of January 18th 2016. If they where using UPS instead of FedEx I might have had it tomorrow but that is still a phenomenal turn around time.

I will be using this machine along side my self built Core i7 5930K, 32GB DDR4, 2xGTX 970 SLI machine and my 2012 Mac Mini i7 2.3GHz 16GB, 250GB/1TB Fusion machine.

I'll be using the iMac for video editing and feeding the project files to my windows box to crunch on. I figure it should keep me from having to stop while rendering now and bump up my productivity a little more.

You must chosen Next Day?

Ordered mine today... Shipped today via UPS. With i7/8gb/256ssd/m390... Coming from Cali.

Apple's customer service. :D

So, you chatted? Called? Did you specifically asked your order to be changed to Next Day or they offered it to you? I wanna get mine changed as well.. Or would it be too late. Since it's already in transit..

I called customer support. I had to setup my payment to go over two debit cards because of a daily spending limit. I explained to her that I needed the machine as soon as possible. She offered to expedite the order and give me next day shipping before noon for free.

If yours is shipped already I think it is too late. Plus I think they where more willing to give the free shipping because the order was a cash payment of a little over $4600. I also bought final cut x and logic x in the same purchase and applecare.

Well, in essence I am spending cash with my debit card. I can wait until Thursday, it's no biggie.. Would be nice to have it sooner.

I haven't gotten the AppleCare just yet though. But thanks for the info... I'm just glad they were able to ship it today and be delivered next week, I was initially suppose to get it the week after.
