Yes, but only if there’s text there already. Still brings up the menu if there’s no genre filled, which is most of the cases where you’d want to change that field. (And yes, I know I can type ahead in the menu, it’s still cognitively less efficient than a type ahead text field).

You're in the "playlist" view.

I never use any other views :p

Does the dark mode have dark windows for apps finally? Or is it still just dark menu bars and dark dock?

Because it is still written in Carbon. You'd think they'd actually spend some time creating a Cocoa iTunes to match a major OS redesign... But they didn't.

WTH is apple waiting for? Carbon is deprecated and they're trying to mimic Cocoa features with some sort of hacks that partly work. If they were using NSToolBar and NSScrollView, they would automatically get the transparency, and probably better scrolling performance too (via Core Animation).

iTunes has a new interface for creating playlists. It opens up an extra sidebar for you. Even persists when switching back to playlist view. Nice!

On the downside, CMD-L to go to currently playing song doesn't work. Seems to open My Music in album view and doesn't actually show the song :/

Apple uses a Carbon library for the Windows version of iTunes, so if they made a Cocoa iTunes for the Mac they'd have to maintain two separate codebases (at least for the front end).

Native apps would probably be better on both platforms, so I wish they would. It's not simply a matter of ticking a checkbox in Xcode, though.

Does anyone know of a way to load up OS X Yosemite into a USB (so I can do a clean install) I know DiskMaker X works but they won't have a version compatible with Yosemite til Thursday evening

Did DP4 change anything about the Notes app? I thought there used to be some yellow buttons, maybe I'm just confusing it with iOS.

Now the thread starter is posting in the wrong thread. I'm begining to feel like a thread nazi. :D

No, it's not possible to install it in vmware. If you have only one mac, then you'd want to use an external drive.

You'll be able to update to the final version.

I looked at the OS X Beta Seed Program site to find that Apple shortened their "What else do I need to know about using OS X Yosemite Beta?" section; I went back and used archive.org to view a version of the page from this monday.

Does this mean Apple takes back what they said prior? I'm hoping this means that iCloud documents in the public beta will sync correctly with iOS 7 and Mavericks. That was the main reason I've been planning on installing the beta on a partition.

Yes you can. That's what I did, but be warned it's WAY slower and doesn't present with a very powerful graphics card emulation. It won't look as nice.

Where? I’m using 11.3 right now and it just opens up the playlist that I am creating like always. There’s no “Edit Playlist” in the context menu when clicking a playlist.

There is for me...I also get a sidebar when choosing "make playlist for selection" and Command-N.

This isn't just related to Yosemite, but I almost feel like you'd have to go out of your way to make a design as convoluted as iTunes. It's already a mess, but looking at it with the new skin, it's even worse in some ways. My eyes don't know where to go when I look at those screenshots of managing an iPhone.

The new Apple is doing some things well and some really poorly. The original iTunes was genius. As was iPhoto, which followed the same model. I realized today I can't even drag and drop photos from Safari onto an iPhoto window. I can drag them onto the desktop or a TextEdit window, but not iPhoto! iPhoto has become the same type of mess as iTunes.

Edit: Steve Jobs said a tablet was DOA if it came with a stylus. I think the same should be said of any Apple software that includes a "Done" button.

What the…? I've just lost my ability to drag a file into an open/save dialog. Instead it copied the file to the folder I had opened in the dialog (the desktop). Anyone else see this? I'm freaking out, because this is the only way I save or upload files. Changing that behaviour now would create years of unlearning.

It appears it's not just you, I'm seeing mentions of this around Twitter. It was suggested that you should drag the file into the file name area instead of the browser. I agree this is a disturbing change.

Can't test it myself because I'm not running Yosemite on anything at the moment.

Persists through a restart. This better not be new intended behaviour. File all of the bug reports!!:mad::mad:

From a gallery published by Ars Technica, it seems that the "Versions" GUI is still a work in progress in DP4 (same dark glassy buttons and "nebula" background, though blurred)
