He's not talking about QuickLook itself (introduced in Leopard), but the animation that now has inertia.

I was not talking about Quick Look either. The animation is already present and I see no difference from the public beta when I look at the video. Or has the animation been tweaked that you call it ‘inertia’?

Yes, tweaked, just before the window comes to a stop during the animation.

That particular animation is too choppy on my MacBook, but I can see that it slows down a bit before it finishes. It doesn’t look different to me, at least.

There's a new key icon that indicates secure text entry.

I just started up the new public beta and was asked if I want to turn on file vault. The boxes were checked by default. So does apple want this to be the default now?

Also what are the pros and cons for having it on?

Cons: None.

Booting takes a bit longer and you can’t partition your drive as long as it’s encrypted and formatted as CoreStorage. Also, if you lose the recovery key and lose access to your Mac, your data is gone. I know enough people who still don’t even think about regular backups and regularly forget their passwords.

That’s weird. When I loaded it, it did not ask me to turn on FileVault. I did it myself a day later.

Regardless, using it is a good idea and the hit in performance is negligible and only takes a few seconds longer to boot.

I have to agree with Troy2000 on this. One of the compelling things about the Mac has always been the polish. Laggy UI elements, or out of sync animations make it feel less polished, and more Windows-y, in my opinion.
It's barely noticeable really. I do agree though that a lot of other animations in OS X Yosemite aren't as polished as they used to be, which should definitely be addressed.

Looks better.

FileVault in Yosemite is slow during boot (often 1min+ to boot) and buggy (often reboots after typing in password). Hoping that if Apple are pushing this now, El Cap makes it more stable.

You can set your recovery key to your iCloud account.

That's odd. I don't have that issue on my Yosemite machines. It boots up very quickly and has always been stable for me. There could be something else going on causing your issues. Hopefully, whatever it may be, El Capitan will fix it for you.

Alas, it was the first thing I did on my new MBP, before anything else and the change was immediate. Partly due to OS X catching some of the crashes, Apple will have fair number of crash reports from me.

As said by others, normal use is unaffected, which is why I tolerate it. Frankly, it seems a feature that should be encouraged for the majority of people.

There was a new animation when installing it and going through the various screens. Kind of a cube transition effect. Kind of odd honestly, seems dated and not necessary.

Also, for some reason 3 finger tap to lookup words doesn't work anymore even though it's checked in preferences. Maybe a reboot will fix it.

The cube animation in the Setup Assistant is not new – it's been there at least since 10.4 (perhaps even earlier, I can't tell).
