Talk about arriving late to the party (Mac Pro1,1 party) that is. :)
Just picked up this machine last week and after upgrading the memory and video card I spent a few days scouring the web and this forum mainly for info and how-to's.
Well here is my pride and joy as it sits today.
Thanks guys 'n' girls for all the helpful information on bringing this wonderful machine forward into this decade.
Runs very silently with dual SSD's in it.

Edit: Yosemite is my operating system of choice, I'm aware that El-Cap will also work.

The packages are still v1.32. The Web Installer might have been from earlier but you still get the latest updates as of now.

When I open the downloaded file that was linked from the "v1.32" link the OS X Hackers installer splash page shows:
"Welcome to the OS X Extractor 1.31 Installer".

Is it really v1.32 or did the 1.32 installer not get posted properly?

Managed to get this going on my macbook 2,1 through the use of the macpostfactor method. I tried the osxextractor method but I ran into an issue after the install where attempting to boot the os would just give me the flashing question mark folder (if anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it then it would be much appreciated if you could share)

After the MPF install the computer seems to be working ok but im having an issue.

I've "installed" the ktexts for the GMA950 but the GPU is still reporting back as only having 6MB of Vram and the Kernel Extension Info value says No Ktext loaded so I dunno what is going on there.

The os also doesn't seem to be displaying the GPU model correctly in the about this mac window
pTY2u5Y.jpg

From other screenshots I have seen it looks like when it is configured correctly the GPU model number should show up in this window so I'm kind of confused. I ran the included installer to install the GMA 950 kexts but nothing at all changed, is there something I'm missing here?

Also I have seen things about installing the 64 bit kexts from the kexts folder from the osxhackers installer with files found inside an attachment zip but I can't for the life of me find that zip file. Does anyone know where exactly it is?

Any and all help would be appreciated because I really want to iron out these last few things so I can get yosemite somewhat usable.

Also my macbooks battery is actually dead and I think that is causing the os to throttle my CPU while I'm using the macbook (when it's plugged in of course). Does anyone know how to stop it from doing this?

Edit:

UPDATE! I have successfully got the audio and graphics drivers installed and everything is now running at a usable speed (quite a usable speed at that).
Still am unsure about if the cpu throttling is a major issue at the moment though but everything seems to be running ok enough.

It's been a while since I've posted on here, but I've finally gotten my sound working using the previously provided AppleHDA kext (I think I just didn't restart it the correct way).

Is there a safe way to update to the latest version of OS X Yosemite I'm stuck on 10.10 and can't get the latest version of iTunes.

If you have the custom RecoveryHD, you can just update and then rehack and reaply the audio kext.

I had the same problem and the only way i managed to get it to work was to use 10.10.0 installer and update through app store and the remove the platformsupport.plist when it reboots again.

Where did you download the installer because I can't find it.

They are in the first post, you need to download the OS X extractor tools and all the Kexts are in the folder

Found them, got them installed but it's just so laggy. Someone had posted somewhere the same MacBook as mine and said that he got it nearly perfect. I have the black late 2006 2,1 4gb ram, 500gb hard drive. Not sure if there's something I'm missing.

For installing the kexts you need to do the thing in the first post which involves booting into single user mode and running a special command. I found that worked for me.

E: Install these 64 bit Kexts from the Kexts folder from OS X Extractor
(These will better the graphics by a little but you will not have Graphics Acceleration. Still in beta so they may not work well)
  1. open the KextUtility.app by dropping all of the files inside this attachment zip folder named “kexts[yourgraphicsmodel…]“ to it. Don't forget to drop in the AppleHDA.kext for sound.
  2. reboot.
  3. Boot into Single User Mode (Hold Command-S after hearing the bong sound)
  4. enter:
    Code:
    sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
  5. reboot again normally.

This bit here, don't worry about the kextutility.app part, just try steps 2 through 5 and see if that works!

Also sound should work just fine if you use the AppleHDA.kext (was posted earlier in the thread) so do that if you haven't already

Tried that just now. Same result. Not sure what's going on. I think I will just stick to mountain lion then.
[doublepost=1465765210][/doublepost]I would stick with lion because it runs everything I need it to but I have an iPhone SE and iTunes 12.4 isn't compatible with lion.

Hmm, that is very weird. Could you check your about this mac menu quickly and just send me a screenshot of it so I can check everything is in order?

After you install the Graphic driver, you need to restart with Command+R and type a sudo command to take effect in the next reboot. Otherwise, it won't recognise the video card.
