File Size: 9 KB
Internet Required. Installation may require up to 40 MB of free space.

The Graphical Kext Installers in OS X Extractor 1.3.2 will support the installation of this new features (They should still be in the Applications/OS X Patch Files folder.

Download (In the Attachments Below)

osxhackershd.gif

New Support Documents have been added to Post 1. Users who successfully install OS X on their Unsupported Macs can make their own support documents and add it to the download servers.

On 2006 iMac (C2D upgraded/5,1) Running the ATI upgrade package completed successfully, but also during installation it popped up a Safari window with the message: No file exists at the address "tmp/PKInstallSandbox.YQUGsG/Scripts/com.JohnsonNetwork.pkg.ATIKextInstaller.NoE3Pi/ClickToPlugin.safariextz/ClickToPlugin.safariextz". Not sure if that was supposed to happen, so figured I would post it.

Macbook early 2008 running Yosemite. No graphics acceleration but bearable using the kexts found in this thread. iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud fully working and using CDOCK for the dock effect. Doesn't look too bad if I say so myself and runs pretty well for an 8 year old machine having only upgraded to an SSD.

Any idea on how to fix the brightness backlight functions or not possible?
I have the same MacBook you have, also upgraded to a SSD.
The only thing I found for the non working brightness keys is an app called Brightness Slider. However it runs in the Terminal and is quite difficult to have it working even while the Terminal is open which is necessary to see the icon in the title bar and the drop down regulation of the brightness.
I haven't deleted it but frankly I can live with no control of the brightness since old computers are supposed to lose part of their original brightness so it cannot be so high to disturb one's eyes.
I am also afraid to dim it too much through that app (whenever it decides to work:confused:) and not be able to restore normal brightness afterwards.

Ah I see, thank you for the suggestion. The only reason I ask is because my backlight sometimes randomly cuts out and I have the fiddle with the brightness keys in order to get it working again, so far this hasn't happened on Yosemite though so I will wait and see. Probably a screen inverter issue but it only occurs rarely and not as it's such an old machine I can't be bothered to repair it to be honest. Will hold out for a new Macbook towards the end of the year.

I just did a backup of my full ML installation, MCPF is currently installing Mavericks and ill post back when it finishes booting, my MB Pro has a Radeon x1600 chip so im not sure how bad it will perform without hardware acceleration.

EDIT: well ive been using it for the last 3 hours and it runs suprisingly well, i even installed the program that pushed me to install Mavericks in the first place, which makes me wonder if theres anything i can do to improve video performance.

I have a Macbook Pro 2.1 its from late 2006 with ATI x1600 gpu...
Sidgallup,
I have a MBP 2,2 with the same GPU, running 10.7.2, and have been hoping to install Mavericks or Yosemite. Can you please describe which process you used to install Mavericks, as I ran into a roadblock of not being able to download version of MPF that would do the trick. I'll look to see if the download is fixed now, but it would help if you said how you did it.
Thanks!

At this very moment the download link does not work. You are right. Isiah Johnson (TMRJIJ) had server difficulties already some time ago. He will fix it as soon as he can no doubt. We must be patient, it's not his fault.

Hi! I'm so excited because I upgraded my old MacBook Pro 2,1 to Mountain Lion and works like charm. My question is. Anyone has updated to Yosemite or Mavericks? As of today is any of them working ok? Ty!

Isn't there a reason why Apple limits it to certain hardware ? if they knew it would run ok, they would have supported more Mac's... Then again.. Like anything, they could also do this on purpose to get you to buy a new mac (most probably)

However, like like trying to run anything on old hardware or not enough memory, it'll probably work, but don't expect it to be speedy.

I used for trying upgrades a MacBook and not a MacBook Pro, therefore there might give different results. I tried Mavericks and have now Yosemite. Since there is no graphic acceleration there are shakes for instance in Firefox when closing windows and other graphic glitches here and there.
To play avi movies I found only one way through the HD player of Vuze. For mkv videos they work with the Nice Player. mp4 videos run with QuickTime. Some applications cause problems like the VLC player giving only the sound track of any movie. Large movie files ripped from BRs don't allow a fluent view.
Many modern applications from Microsoft, Adobe and others can now be installed after the upgrade.
In spite of the occasional glitches and other faults, it is usable and allowed me, as already mentioned to install many applications requesting a more updated OSX than my original OSX which was 10.7 Lion.
If your expectations are reasonable for old hardware and not too high, you might be satisfied with the upgrade.
In case you can switch the hard disc of your mac without risking any damage, it would be much better since you could easely return back if you are not satisfied.
It is highly advisable before any experiment to make a bootable clone external drive of your present running system. A TimeMachine backup can also be a good idea if needed.
Buena suerte Alberto.

Yes and no.
Apple had certainly good reasons, not necessarily in order to sell new macs but probably because (in that I agree with you) they knew that old hardware will not perform with new software in a way to satisfy demanding mac users.
We shouldn't forget that a non negligeable percentage of mac users are pros who make their living on their macs.
However it is still a peculiar situation  when I can run without too many workarounds the newest Windows 10 :) in my MacBook of 2008...while to get Mavericks or Yosemite (not El Capitan!) was not a simple task accomplished only thanks to TMRJIJ and other helpful developers in this forum.

Hello, sorry to barge in on this thread like this but I've been having some trouble ever since I updated my 2007 MacBook to Yosemite.

I didn't do it by this guide, but by a YouTube video tutorial.

It all worked as planned, but I encountered some glitches immediately after completing the upgrade.

The first one I encountered was that the lock screen would often get stuck after I entered my password, so I had to remove that to not have to deal with the hassle of having to restart my MacBook.

The next most significant glitch is one that has to do with the title bars of windows. It seems as though they get frozen (though I can still click on things) for a while and my pointer disappears when I hover over it most of the time (though will often reappear). Sometimes the title bar itself will be invisible for a short while as well.

These are the two biggest issues I'm facing currently.

My battery does not charge (and more than likely has completely died)/my MacBook does not sleep when it is closed.

My sound has been completely muted and I cannot unmute it.

If anyone has any workarounds for these (especially the last two), I'd be extremely grateful.

Hi if you install the AppleHDA kext using kextutility you should have sound functionality back working. Not sure about the other glitches though, sorry. I have the early 2008 macbook and running yosemite, recently it's been freezing completely but I've still been able to move my cursor but not click anything, have to reboot when this occurs. Anyone else had this issue? Thinking it could be to do with the gpu?

I used the Apple HDA kext when needed.
I have the same mac but no freezing. I put inside 6 GB, (4+2)RAM, the maximum possible. Maybe it helps.
From time to time I must try several times to start it and of course graphics have glitches. However did not notice the freezing you mention.
Do you have a SSD inside?

Yeah SSD inside, what version of yosemite are you running? To be fair my macbook isn't in the best shape, the fan is more or less constantly on maybe a good internal clean out is needed do you think?

Non sleeping is normal for such a hacking. That must be accepted.
The Apple HD kext solves the sound issue as you received already the information from jakey_93
As to the other graphic problems maybe maxing the RAM might help.
You should download the Extractor files from OSX Hackers.net and run the graphic kext for your graphic card if you haven't done that yet, that helps in any case.
A new battery will be as you describe it unavoidable. However my experience with no name batteries has not been brilliant. An original from Apple is much better and worth the money.

You should try to dust off the fan since it is in my MacBook hearable but not turning at maximum speed AFAIK.
I would try it from outside with a can of air since opening it would be too risky for me  but you might be much better than I am at such things. ;)
I updated to the last Yosemite, the 10.10.5, lost the sound (no recognition of microphone and speakers) but solved it with the Apple HD kext and rebooting.
Good luck :)

Thanks, I'll do just that! I'm kind of new to working with .kext files (having been a Windows user for most of my life), so I hope I don't bother people with too many questions about them.

You could try the voodoo hda kext, if that doesn't work then I'm not really sure sorry.

You don't bother anybody.
We are here in this forum to try to help each other.:)
There are a couple of small tools to install kexts, in my case a small window opens in the tool I found and one just drops inside the kext and it installs.
Don't hesitate to ask if needed.
As you see there are several very kind and helpful people in this thread :)
Good luck!

If this can help to somebody...
In my Macbook 2007, non-SSD, 4 GB RAM, I've installed Yosemite 10.4 and it works as supposed (non QE/CI, non sleeping, but sound and so on). I did that with the MacPostFactor utility.
I have to say that before I tried another method, the SFOTT one, and it worked, this is needed if your MacBook has EFI32.
My Macbook 2,1 has 64-bit EFI.

My fan is all day running under Yosemite, so I will open the case, clean the fan, and if it's possible I will put new thermal silicone on the C2D chip. The reality is that Yosemite seems to be not a good OS, because it needs 3 GB for just being running. Under Mountain Lion, my MB works better, so I have two partitions on the disk and I use Yosemite just when I need because of some app that demands it, but I try to work with ML, which gives me QE/CI and will not kill my fan as Yosemite!

AND ANOTHER STUPID AND ANNOYING ISSUE I HAVE WITH YOSEMITE: I can do cmd+C and cmd+V in the Finder, but I cannot do cmd+X, I don't know why!! So I can copy/paste but not cut!

I have the same Macbook and I've been having this exact issue lately. I'm going to upgrade the graphics kexts and maybe that will change things.

I originally installed 10.10 through MacPostFactor 1.0.1 but after upgrading to 10.10.5 through the App Store, I've used a variety of different patches to fix the upgrade. I'm not even certain what kexts I'm using anymore because I didn't realize I only needed to install the ones specific to my machine, oops.

My main drive is third party SSD and I've enabled the os x trimforce on it. I'm also not sure if this effects the performance.

Ah I see, I couldn't cope with the unstability of it so have reverted back to Mountain Lion for now. Only thing I really miss about Yosemite is text message forwarding.

Hi guys, I installed 10.10 on my MacBook with mcpf and managed to get it updated to 10.10.5 but I have a recovery partition update still to do, I tried it earlier and I lost my mcpf recovery partition so I started fresh again.

My question is- is there a way to either remove this update from the App Store or a way to install it without losing my mcpf recovery partition.

Cheers Jon

I wonder that through MCPF you obtained at all in Yosemite a recovery partition.
I have none at all as I had with Mavericks and TMRJIJ has not answered my repeated questions if a recovery partition of the hacked type, allowing to rehack a system if needed, can be created in my Yosemite afterwards.
A normal Apple recovery partition should not be possible in a hacked Yosemite in my humble opinion.
It will just take some of the hard disk without allowing anything useful in my opinion since it does not include the files normally found in the recovery partition created in a non hacked OSX Apple installation.
You use MCPF precisely because a normal Yosemite system installation through Apple is not possible in that computer, right?

Anyone know why MacPostFactor is getting stuck after the 'skip ad' screen when I try to do a new install? I've been trying since last night and it won't work. Server issues?

Thanks

That seems no doubt to be the reason. Ask TMRJIJ, the net owner, but I assume he knows it already and does it best to have it solved.
Long live modern IT

P.S. I believe that by now the download links work again if you wait enough time.
