It appears the Sound Kernel Extension in OS X Extractor 1.32 is not working well. I will push out Graphics updates at the end of the day.
It would be very kind of yours to make possible to use those new graphics updates without having to run the entire OSX Extractor 1.3.2... for those not having the needed skills for the Extractor like myself. (Somehow like using the kexts of the OSX Hackers Package).

Thank you for your help!!!
I succeed to install Yosemite with that tutorial:
And it works very well!
But as with Mavericks, I can't change the brightness, videos doesn't word on vlc for example...
And for the sound I use the kext from extractor !

For video playback you can use NicePlayer and Perian 1.2.3 codecs. I tried this earlier and everything worked fine.
You can find a link to both of them in my earlier post number #1021
Enjoy and have fun :D

Thank you for your suggestion.
Nice Player does not work in my system.
For avi movies the solution I found was the HD Player, part of Vuze.
MP4 videos work fine with Quick Time.
Thank you again.

The graphics updates will include more plugins for QuickTime and Safari videos.
It's getting harder to code for these updates

Hi,
Try the video that I put 3 posts before! It works for me while I had the same problem as you before!

Maybe the video quoted by LeGeekProvençal might help you.
I can only say that Yosemite might be much harder but after investing enough patience and time I managed to install it in my old MacBook.
So it is possible even if it requires much more effort and trial and errors.

Hello, I have a 2006 imac (the boxy all white one)

It has a 2.15 ghz intel core 2 duo, 3 gigs of ram, and an ssd which I installed.

I installed mountin lion on it using mlpostfactor and it runs pretty good although it does have some slowdowns.

Will I see any improvements running Yosemite on it?

If you could change the hard disk for a while (of course without harming the computer!), you could see by yourself if you prefer another OSX by installing it in that changed HD.
Usually installing a newer OSX in old hardware does not make it run faster or better AFAIK.
People try those updates for other reasons. For instance many applications require a certain OSX or newer to allow their installation.
I don't believe that my MacBook easly 2008 runs now quicker or better with Yosemite than with the original Lion. However I could install software which would not accept Lion as an environment and the desktop looks more "modern" to me, although many people prefer the looks of previous versions of OSX.
That point, the looks, is therefore purely a matter of subjective personal taste.
As to performance improvement, I would be surprised to notice any change due to running a newer OS as long as the hardware remains the same.
However I am not at all a technical expert, just a plain, ordinary user. This is just my modest personal opinion. Don't give more value to it that the little it has.

Hello TMRJIJ
I know you are very busy.
Still allow me a question.
Is there a way to add a Recovery Partition (the hacked one allowing to rehack a system) to an existing (hacked) working Yosemite in my MacBook 4.1?
Although Yosemite works with just an acceptable amount of faults, it would be nice if I could get the hacked Recovery Partitionas as well in case it is needed.
Thank you in advance for your answer (and your instructions if my request is possible).:)
Ed

hi, i've successfully installed this on an early 2008 macbook 4,1. thanks.

1) i have two partitions, the first is the initial 10.7.5 lion install, and the second is yosemite. is it safe to now delete the lion partition if i only intend to work in yosemite? or is lion required for the yosemite hack to function properly? i would clone the lion partition to an external hd in case of emergency.

2) i'm also wondering if the boot.efi modifications in yosemite would interfere with installing a boot manager like reFind if i wanted to try installing windows and/or linux on a separate partition? how about boot camp?

thanks so much to anyone who can answer my questions.

I am not an expert.
However I have Yosemite and Windows 10 sharing my inner drive in my MacBook early 2008 (4.1).
I don't need Lion but in some cases it might be useful (since I have now no Recovery Partition and if I needed a Time Machine recovery for instance, a Recovery Partition would be useful). Therefore I cloned Lion to an external bootable USB stick and keep it just in case.
I do not see why reFind could be a problem.
However, as already said, I am just a plain user and not an expert.

I had problems to install Windows. According to Apple only Windows 7 fits my MacBook 4.1. However BootCamp didn't accept neither a DVD nor an iso of Win 7.
I therefore followed more or less the method found in a YouTube video to avoid BootCamp at the beginning and use it only at the end to install Apple drivers.
Please see my post #1004 in this same thread to find the name of the YouTube video.
Even if you do it differently it will not harm to see that method. :)
I followed that procedure (however NOT copying Windows installation files to the NTFS partition as advised there) with the free boot manager reFind (as indicated there) and an install DVD I had from Windows 8.1.
ReFind allowed me to see and start the installation DVD.
Later I upgraded from 8.1 to Windowd 10.

For a 8 years old MacBook I must say that Windows 10 and different Windows Applications like Office and Adobe software perform not bad at all.
Apple's drivers work nicely besides the trackpad which doesn't allow to scroll like on the OSX side.
I haven't some problems (for instance no problem to see an "avi" video) than I have on the OSX side with Yosemite.
Not very logical for an Apple computer but nevertheless true.:)

It's very kind. However 8 GB USB stick should be enough if I am not wrong.
Anyhow it's good that people help people. :)
I can do it as well and live in Switzerland.

So after several attempts, I finally got Yosemite working, and actually pretty well on my black late-2007 Macbook (3,1.) I'm typing on it now.

If anyone is having trouble with a similar machine, here's the right combination of steps which worked for me:

-DO NOT use a newest-version Yosemite installer (10.10.5.) Failed every time I tried it. Poked around online and found the original release version (10.10.0) and voila

-Installed using Mac Post Factor running a clean install of Lion 10.7.5 with all updates. Skipped doing it on an external drive and went straight to the internal. No problems

-After initial install, Yosemite was very sluggish and buggy. Using a combination of OS X Hackers and the audio kexts from an earlier post I was able to get everything stable as well as working sound. Big help was to use the Kext Utility then boot into safe mode, entering in the commands for Dev mode

Now it's running as well as it was with Mavericks. Graphics are much more responsive, minus the few annoyances that will never work (Maps, User account profile pictures, etc.) Was able to get all the updates and am currently on 10.10.5.

Pretty neat trick for an old laptop!

Would you please explain that point of "boot in safe mode to enter commands".
What are those "commands for Dev mode" to be entered in safe mode?
How did you proceed to upgrade to 10.5 and still keep the hacked Yosemite?
Thank you in advance.

Just so we're clear... should we just run the installer for our given graphics model, reboot, and that's it? (X3100 here on late 2007 BlackBook, if it matters)
