That seems no doubt to be the reason. Ask TMRJIJ, the net owner, but I assume he knows it already and does it best to have it solved.
Long live modern IT
Ed

P.S. I believe that by now the download links work again if you wait enough time.

Yeah, I sent him a PM but haven't heard back and I was unable to figure out how to attach a screen shot. Hopefully he sees this reply. Just gets stuck on this screen regardless of which OSX installer I'm using. Trying to put Yosemite on another MacBook 3,1 just like the one I've already done it successfully on

Strange. I have just now tried just for trying and it downloaded me the 3.1MB Package of Extractor 1.31.
I don't understand why I manage to reach (after the awful ads and pop ups) the download package... and you don't
Ed

To download MacPostFactor 1.0.1 it took me about 40 minutes and several failures. Terrible download speed

Yes, I'm able to download the Extractor… but not able to install using MPF. That's the one that gets stuck. He replied to my PM a bit ago and confirmed it's a server issue, so hopefully it will be fixed soon

As already said, the download speed is awful and the package of MCPF is much larger.
However with a lot of patience....:(

That's not how MPF works, if we're talking about the dame thing. I already have the installer downloaded (it's about 350 mb.) The problem is when installing it has to connect to the server, and that apparently isn't working

I apologize for not having understood.
However the fact that I had to try several times and it took an eternity to download the 350 MB must also be caused by the server problems.
Sorry for my mistake.

I wonder that through MCPF you obtained at all in Yosemite a recovery partition.
I have none at all as I had with Mavericks and TMRJIJ has not answered my repeated questions if a recovery partition of the hacked type, allowing to rehack a system if needed, can be created in my Yosemite afterwards.
A normal Apple recovery partition should not be possible in a hacked Yosemite in my humble opinion.
It will just take some of the hard disk without allowing anything useful in my opinion since it does not include the files normally found in the recovery partition created in a non hacked OSX Apple installation.
You use MCPF precisely because a normal Yosemite system installation through Apple is not possible in that computer, right?
Ed

I've installed Yosemite on my MB 2008 twice, the first time with MCPF for Yosemite 10.10. MCPF installed the custom hacked Recovery HD and it worked perfectly fine. When I upgraded to 10.10.5 via the App Store, it overwrote the Recovery HD.

A few weeks later I wanted to try to make my own USB installer directly from a copy of 10.10.5 using the OSXExtractor instructions so I could do a clean install and delete my original Lion partition. That is what I'm using right now. I don't notice any difference in performance than the MCPF install method.

I didn't create a custom Recovery HD pkg during the USB setup. At first I couldn't boot into it, but later I mounted it through Disk Utility and used Terminal to delete the PlatformSupported plist. Now I can boot into it like a regular Recovery HD.

Unfortunately there's no auto scripted way to recreate the MCPF hacked Recovery HD, you'd have to make your own installer.

Thank you for your explanation.
However I don't understand the use of a non hacked Recovery Partition. The advantage of the hacked one is clear: to allow rehacking a system after any update.
A normal Apple recovery partition on the other side is very useful to download from Apple the OSX system if needed to reinstall it. It brings added safety to the user.
Other advantages of it are less important. Maybe to access a TimeMachine backup, but that is perfectly possible by booting for instance into a USB key with the original Lion on it.
However when wanting to download again the OS, Apple verifies if that computer is allowed to download that OSX (Yosemite) and in unsupported macs allowance is denied.
Am I wrong?
Ed

No need for apologies! We're all trying to help each other… just a little frustrated the server issues are continuing since I was actually hoping to use this machine for a work project that Lion won't work for. Hopefully they get it straightened out soon! :p

Depending on the computer used and the procedure employed the RESOLVED in the title might be a bit too optimistic...or just too early judging by all the following posts, with all the credits very well deserved by the creators of these wonderful tools! Thank you very much TMRJIJ!!!!!
***************************************************
Good to remember if you use a tool like MCPF to install an "unsupported" newer OSX.

Keep a bootable clone of the original "supported" OSX of that computer with its original unhacked Recovery Partition, for instance in a USB key or an external drive. The "special" Recovery Partition ("OSX Hackers") created by the hacking tool in Mavericks can be used for rehacking (if needed) or for doing again a "clean install' of the newer hacked system. However it doesn't give you access to a Time Machine recovery as found in a normal Recovery Partition.
(Sometimes Time Machine refuses to start and work normally from inside the hacked new OSX).
The original kept "old" Recovery Partition will allow you to boot from it and restore the newer system (if needed) from a Time Machine back up of it.

************************************************
A remark for people trying without success to install Yosemite through MCPF 1.0.1

I tried it for several months without success. Mavericks worked in my MB 4.1, early 2008, Yosemite not.
Then one day I run this tool choosing Yosemite and directing it to an external USB stick as installer, and afterwards repeated the Yosemite choice but this time pointing to the inner drive of my MB 4.1, leaving the USB stick installer plugged in. A double procedure with MCPF 1.0.1.
For unknown reasons to me, a reboot allowed me suddently to begin to install Yosemite.
I don't know if it might work for others users or for other unsupported macs but in dispair maybe you give this double procedure a try.
I later succeeded to upgrade to the last version of Yosemite 10.10.5 and to install a security update.
However I had to use each time the AppleHDA kext of the OSX Hackers kext package to have again recognized the built-in microphone and speakers, "disappeared" after any update.
I don't have unfortunately the patched special Hackers recovery partition in case I need to rehack it, as I had with Mavericks, so I keep bootable clones for safety.
****************************************************

A suggestion: MPEG Streamclip, a free, non further updated application, plays some"avi" movies in an hacked Yosemite, while VLC and other players only give the sound track. If this suggested player doesn't work with a certain "avi", the HD player, part of the P2P application "Vuze" always does in my experience.

OS X Yosemite on Unsupported Macs
OS X Hackers

OS X Extracter and MacPostFactor are apps that guide you through patching and installing OS X El Capitan (10.11), Yosemite (10.10), Mavericks(10.9), or Mountain Lion (10.8) on your older Mac. This thread focuses on OS X Yosemite.

MacPostFactor works for Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite (certain Models).
Please note that older GPU (GMA 950, X3100, X1600, X1300, X1900, 7300gt, etc.) Graphics Acceleration on Mavericks and Yosemite is not supported yet but this thread consists of many graphical workarounds.
Installing on these models may cause them to have graphical issues as stated in these pages. Kexts are provided to help a little bit.
OS X Extractor is somewhat for more advanced users and should only be used as an alternative to MacPostFactor. This thread consists of members prominent in these patches that can help you solve your issues. Please do not hesitate to post if you have questions.

Apple History

OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was the first OS X version with optional support for a 64-bit kernel, allowing booting either with a 32-bit or 64-bit kernel. However, Apple did not support booting the 64-bit kernel in Macs that shipped with EFI32 firmware, even if they had 64-bit processors capable of running the 64-bit kernel. When Apple dropped the 32-bit kernel entirely from OS X, starting with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, EFI32 Macs no longer had an Apple-supported mechanism to boot newer OS X versions.

Fortunately, we have found a work around for these version of OS X. Here we provide guides in Post 1 and 2 and support for Installing OS X Yosemite on your Unsupported Mac.

This first post is usually updated with recent summarized information, updates, and more solutions.

For those who have 2006/2007 Mac Pros, you may be best suited to using Mr. Zarniwoop's Thread here. The MCPF and OSXE projects are not affiliated with them. We will not contact them either. Confrontation has occurred both publicly and privately in MacRumors, the site, and other forms of communications and we don't want anything to do with them and their Mac Models. It simple don't ask Mac Pro questions to people who don't have Mac Pros :p. Your post will be requested to be moved to their thread.
Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) Yosemite Guide: Hennesie2000's Guide here.

Prerequisites
Tested Macs listed below. Here are the minimum requirements:
- Running 10.7 Lion
- At least 2GB of RAM.
- A copy of Yosemite in Applications Folder (Recommended from the Mac App Store)
- 15 GB of free space from USB or HDD Partition to serve as your Installation Drive.

-MacBook2,x
-MacBook3,x
-MacBook4,x
-MacBookPro2,x
-MacBookAir1,1
-MacMini1,x (C2D upgraded)
-MacMini2,x
-iMac4,x (C2D can be upgraded)
-iMac5,x (post #846 might help)

We DON'T assist with Hackintosh. All private messages/emails involving installing OS X on non-Apple hardware will be redirected to another support team.

Guide to Installing OS X Yosemite on Unsupported Macs

Method 1 - OS X Extractor

ANY HARM OR DAMAGE CAUSED BY THIS GUIDE HAPPENED UNDER YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY!
IF YOU HAVE ANY REGRETS ABOUT DOING THIS TO YOUR MAC, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T DO IT. IF YOU ARE QUESTIONING WHETHER IT IS WORTH IT, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT TRY THIS.
PLEASE READ THIS GUIDE BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS? WE HAVE TOO MANY EMAILS AND SKYPE MESSAGES TO ANSWER AND CAN'T BABY YOU THROUGH THIS ONE STEP AT A TIME. IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE YOUR WAY AROUND OS X, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS.

Be sure to have root privileges (administrator password) as OS X will prompt you for this on some stage.

A: Preparing The Installation Drive

  1. Make a BACKUP of your system if you can.
  2. OS X Extractor has generally everything you need to patch OS X (There are also numerous other sources that can help).
  3. Get an OS X Yosemite Installer app (Recommended from the Mac App Store)
  4. Make sure your Mac meets the Requirements above

B: Start Patching
  1. Install OS X Extractor.
  2. After you install, there should be a Hidden Toggle in your System Preferences
  3. Right click on the OS X Yosemite Installer app and click show package contents.
  4. Browse to the folder /Contents/SharedSupport
  5. Double-click to mount "InstallESD.dmg"
  6. Open up Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities and drag BaseSystem.dmg to the lower Disk Utility side pane.
  7. Click on BaseSystem.dmg in Disk Utility and select the Restore tab.
  8. Set the BaseSystem.dmg as the source and choose the installation drive (formatted as HFS+ and GUID) as the destination.
  9. Use Finder to browse the newly restored installation drive installer.
  10. Go to the folder /System/Installation on the installation drive and delete the "Packages" alias file. It will be replaced with the actual folder.
  11. Go back to the mounted InstallESD.dmg and drag the "Packages" folder into the /System/Installation folder where the alias file used to be.
  12. Copy the files, ”BaseSystem.dmg" and “BaseSystem.chunklist," to the root of the thumb drive.
  13. Unmount InstallESD.dmg You don't need it anymore.
  14. (for non 64 bit Macs) Unlock and Replace the boot.efi files located in /System/Library/CoreServices and /usr/standalone/i386 with the copy provided in /Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/Boot EFI/ or from here . To Unlock it, use the Terminal app in Applications/Utilities/ and enter the command:

    Code:
    sudo chflags nouchg /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi

(If you receive an error, go the that directory and find the boot.efi. Then in the Terminal, enter 'sudo chflags nouchg ' and drag the old boot.efi in the window. Press Enter)
  15. Now lock the new boot.efi file
  16. (for non 64 bit Macs) lock the new boot.efi with this command:

    Code:
    sudo chflags uchg /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi

  17. Copy the folder named "Kernels", (rename it so if it says "Kernel") from ‘/Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/‘ to the ‘/System/Library/Kernels/‘ folder on the installer drive.
  18. replace the original OSInstall.mpkg in the Installation drive (/System/Installation/Packages/) with the modified one from /Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/
  19. Next you will have to add your Mac Model to the installer. You will have to replace the files without corrupting them. Some of the files are signed so be careful not to change anything else. Make sure your changes mimics the same syntax as other entries. You may have to copy and paste the quote marks from an existing entry. If your closing quote after the boardID looks italic, you're WRONG!
  20. run the IORegistryExplorer.app from the OS X Hackers Patch Files folder make sure in the top left corner IOServices is selected
  21. under root select your Mac(model) -> on the right at the top copy the board-id value.
  22. open in your Installation Drive, /System/Installation/Packages/InstallableMachines.plist with TextEdit and search for the last entry and replace it with your board-id value
  23. open /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist and do the same.
  24. Great! The hard part is over. Now it's time for installation. Re-hide the hidden files with the DisAppear.app, Close the Terminal, and Close all other Applications. Take a breather and move on to the next part of the guide.

C: Installation

  1. reboot your Mac holding option (alt) key.
  2. If the installation drive boot you back to the main partition, try blessing the drive from your terminal app:
    Code:
    sudo bless --folder /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System --file /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi --setBoot
  3. select the Installation drive "OS X Base System" (and press enter)
  4. when booted click install/continue until you reach the disk selection menu, select you main drive (probably Macintosh HD) if you are sure about it, else select another empty drive (at least 15GB for testing/bigger if it should be a secondary system)

D: If Reboot Fails

(If the Mac does not reboot to the Yosemite desktop boot to the install-drive again and perform the following.
Boot back into the Yosemite Install Partition
open the terminal at the top menu bar or boot into single user mode (Hold Command -S immediately afterturning on)
enter:
Code:
sudo rm /Volumes/[Main Drive Name]/System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist

E: Install these 64 bit Kexts from the Kexts folder from OS X Extractor
(These will better the graphics by a little but you will not have Graphics Acceleration. Still in beta so they may not work well)
  1. open the KextUtility.app by dropping all of the files inside this attachment zip folder named “kexts[yourgraphicsmodel…]“ to it. Don't forget to drop in the AppleHDA.kext for sound.
  2. reboot.
  3. Boot into Single User Mode (Hold Command-S after hearing the bong sound)
  4. enter:
    Code:
    sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
  5. reboot again normally.

IF your Macbook can't wake up from sleep:

Because of lack of working Graphics Acceleration. Your Macbook may not be able to wake from a display sleep

Install the NoSleep Extension
Set the Preferences to Never Sleep on AC Adapter and Battery
Check the 'Start NoSleep Utility on system startup' setting
Your Macbook screen will never turn off unless your actually shut down your Macbook.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Method 2 - MacPostFactor

Bugs (from multiple Mac Models)
  1. Maps does not view the maps
  2. Launchpad is somewhat delayed and choppy
  3. Video don’t play in iTunes, Safari, VLC nor DVD Player (best use Quicktime, the HD player of Vuze and Google Chrome)
  4. Notification Center is sometimes a mess.
  5. Only one Screen Resolution available
  6. Some Apps will have artifacts if primary using Graphics Card.
  7. iMessage/FaceTime note: Most users cannot initially login to iMessage or FaceTime using their Apple ID from their Macs after installing Yosemite as a security precaution. When trying to login, they receive an iMessage Registration validation code. The solution is to contact Apple support, provide the Mac's serial number, explain that Yosemite was installed using our guide and that iMessage isn't working and provide the validation code. Apple then unblocks the Mac, allowing iMessage and FaceTime login immediately and in the future OS updates. They really don't care.
OS X Recovery Patch

  • Go to Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/Recovery Patcher/
  • Install the 'Recovery Patcher' pkg (Not working for El Capitan)

OS X Software Updates

  • Go to Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/Software Update Patch/
  • Install the 'Software Update Patch' pkg
  • (EFI32 Mac only) Using Pike's Boot.efi, Install the EFI Daemon patch.

Animation Disabler

You don't have Graphics Acceleration, right? Then you don't need excess Animation slowing down your system.
  • Go to Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/Animation Disabler/
  • Install the 'Disable Graphical Animations' pkg

Airdrop

  • Go to Applications/OS X Hackers Patch Files/AirDrop Enabler/
  • Install the 'Enable Airdrop' pkg
  • Restart

You can send file with AirDrop to other Macs only. Sometimes newer Macs can't find your model.

[doublepost=1463435932][/doublepost]TMRJIJ, I am trying to install Yosemite on a macmini 1,1 upgraded to 2,1 using MacPostFactor 1.0.1. I have been unsuccessful after many tries but then saw your comment "choosing Yosemite and directing it to an external USB stick as installer, and afterwards repeated the Yosemite choice but this time pointing to the inner drive of my MB 4.1, leaving the USB stick installer plugged in". Do you mean run through MacPostFactor 1.0.1 twice, the first time pointing to the usb and then the second time pointing to the internal hdd? If I run MacPostFactor 1.0.1 it stalls at "cannot run this application in this environment", then the startup disk is hosed and I have to restore from backup if I want to run MacPostFactor 1.0.1 again, so not sure how I could accomplish running it twice, unless I'm not understanding your comment correctly. Thanks for all the info!

Sorry. That suggestion to run MCPF twice is not from TMRJIJ but my own.
The first post in this thread is open to users adding their own experience.
This might be confusing. I am sorry for that. :(

Actually it was in this way that after trying unsuccessfully to install Yosemite in a MB 4.1 early 2008 many, many times, it finally worked for me.
I don't understand how it happened. I simply told it for those having the problems I had. Just an experiment which might or might not work for somebody else.
In my case the notice of failure came only when pointing to the internal drive while when pointing to a USB stick it gave me an "apparent" success message.
However it was only an illusion since I had to reboot and nothing happened.
On one occasion by trying both directions, the USB stick and the inside drive, after rebooting...the Yosemite installation screen appeared and I could do it.:)
As I wrote, I have no explanation how or why it worked and it is just a suggestion, an experiment for those failing all the time as I was.
Sorry for having confused you to believe it is part of the instructions of TMRJIJ. It is not at all.
I am to blame.

No problem Ed, thanks for the clarification, I did not understand how the thread was set up, being a noob! Myself I was mistaken about not being able to run MCPF more than once - I can do this and tried to replicate your experience. Whichever way I do it the progress bar on the OSXHackers screen gets all the way to the end and then gives the error to the effect that "this applications cannot be run in this environment". I gave up on Yosemite and settled for Mavericks for now, which works perfectly. Maybe there is something about this particular macmini config that is causing the issue. Anyway thanks again!

Hi
I get all the way to here in the Yose installation process of my MBP 2,2:
C: Installation
  1. reboot your Mac holding option (alt) key.
  2. If the installation drive boot you back to the main partition, try blessing the drive from your terminal app:
    sudo bless --folder /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System --file /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi --setBoot
  3. select the Installation drive "OS X Base System" (and press enter)
  4. when booted click install/continue until you reach the disk selection menu, select you main drive (probably Macintosh HD) if you are sure about it, else select another empty drive (at least 15GB for testing/bigger if it should be a secondary system)
and then it won't boot into the installer but keeps going back to the 10.7.2. When I try to 'bless' the Installer Drive in Terminal, I get this response from Terminal:

No mount point for /Volumes/OS Base System
Can't determine mount point of 'Volumes/OS Base System' and ' '

Solution?

I found that MPF 1.0.1 is available again, so I downloaded it and it won't install Yosemite. So I gave up on Yosemite and went back to Mavericks, but when I have <Install OS X Maverick> in the Applications folder, MPF doesn't see it and quits. Even though the installation of MPF clearly had a checkbox for Mavericks.

Any solutions for THAT?

Are you using the official installer app from the app store?

Got it. I'm sure it's not the original. I DO have the original for Yosemite, but MPF aborts and says it won't install Yosemite on my MBP 2,2...which I don't understand because this is one of the legacy Macs for which the Yose fix is claimed to work. I'm not able to install Yose with either the manual or MPF methods, and I don't understand why.

Some users have reported that only the 10.10.0 installer works, so maybe that is the problem.

Hey, it was just me or Apple sent a security update for Yosemite yesterday? I installed it and noticed two things:
1. This update killed audio and kexts don't help (so I installed fresh Yosemite to recover it and turned off AutoUpdate)
2. This update killing OSX Hackers recovery partition : I had partition for Yosemite called "Yosemite" and OSX Hackers recovery called "yosemite recovery". After this update name of my recov partition changed to "recovery-10.10.3" and won't work anymore (after choosing it in multiboot menu it gave "no permission" mark)

Added a couple more Support Documents in Post 1. These address commonly ask questions about the MacPostFactor Error Codes including Error -3 and how to update OS X Extractor ;).
The site has gotten a few stability improvements in preparation for upcoming updates.

I was asked if the site and downloads will shutdown during WWDC on June 13. Yes, and No; the site itself will be down but download links will still be functional allowing OS X Extractor and MacPostFactor to continue to work.

The OS X Extractor 1.32 link provided here and in osxhackers.net are both the 1.31 version.

Is that an error?
