Yosemite, if your gpu is configured correctly then the about this mac screen will be slightly different to if it was incorrectly configured

It's working a little better. Still don't have sound and what happens when I go to update will I have to do it again?

From that picture I can say that your GPU is correctly setup so you're all good there. Run the animation disabler included with the osxhackers zip as that disables any uneeded animations that can't run properly without hardware acceleration

As for the sound download the appleHDA kext (someone made a post with it attached earlier in the thread) and download kextutility. Install kextutility and once you have it open and the little wheel in kext utility has stopped spinning drag and drop the AppleHDA.kext into the window and wait for it to install. When installed reboot your machine and you should have sound

As for updates I have no clue if you will have to do it again or not but if you find your graphics start running all slow again and the about this mac screen isn't correctly displaying your model of GPU then perform the same process to reinstall the GPU drivers. However AFAIK updating shouldn't overwrite them

It's I stalling the update now so I will do that afterwards and see what happens.

Inside OS X Hackers Patch Files, there is two .pkg files. Recovery Patcher and OS X Software Update Patch. Install both and you can update your Yosemite to 10.10.5 without having to install from scratch.
Probably you'll have to boot with alt/option pressed to boot the recovery and patch the update (its a minute only) and reboot normally.

Yeah I know to go in and rehack my install I had to do all that with mountain lion.

Just using a password during a restart (after a freeze) can leave you stuck indefinitely at login. Using Automatic Login fix the problem.

I just don't want to leave my HD unencrypted. Is anyone using FileVault?

EDIT:
I can confirm FileVault works properly. When you start the computer, it asks for username and password. Then it boots normally (with automatic login).

Followed the steps from post 1, 2 and even the redirected link and managed to boot to USB or even other partition on the disc with Installation files and I'm able to go trough the mini setups, selecting language formatting disc and even selecting the disk. But suddenly during installation my Macmini2,1 (a1176) reboots. Does anyone has any experience with this behavior?

What is the workaround for a "You're not running this app on the proper environment" error when using MCPF on a Macbook 4,1 tying to install Yosemite?

I was just wondering if there is any progress on getting QE/CI on MacBook Pro Late 2006 with ATI Radeon X1600 on Mavericks or Yosemite? QE/CI works perfectly on Mountain Lion. I can even run Final Cut Pro X on Mountain Lion and, is there any progress on MLPostFactor 1.1 or 2.0. It would be greatly appreciated by all of us old Mac users.

Thank You

Firstly, know and commit to memory that throughout the entire process Google is your ally in answering questions and finding solutions. If a certain explanation isn't making sense to you, there are bound to be another tutorials posted online describing the same procedure. As the following link indicates (http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-ha...-driver-macbook-pro-15-inch-glossy-issue.html), the set-up that I am outlining here is nothing new or ground breaking.

Among all the current options available, I consider this to be the most effective way of making a very competent piece of computer hardware equally current OS wise in the modern era. And while I cannot state this with absolute certainty, I do not believe that this option is exclusive only to machines possessing ATI Radeon X1600 graphics as 64 bit drivers may very well exist for both the GMA 950 & the X3100.

1.) Building Windows 10 64 bit Boot DVD:

http://www.jowie.com/select-cd-rom-boot-type

http://www.gopulls.com/blog/2009.08...a-mac-beat-the-select-cd-rom-boot-type-error/

2.) Enabling ACHI SATA in Windows:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/tutorial-enable-sata-ahci-mode-in-windows-7-8-8-1-10.1908034/

For the next two steps google and learn "How to update/install drivers in Windows manually"

3.) For Audio, download the "IDT Sigmatel" Driver located among the provided drivers in Bootcamp 4.0.4033:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630?locale=en_US

In my experience, running the executible initially fails though the package w/ the 64 bit driver will expand and be saved in: C:\Program Files\IDT

...from your acquired knowledge, update/install the driver manually. You will need to Direct Windows to the "WDM" folder and specifically the STWRT64.INF file inside of it.

4.) For Video, download and install the ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 driver described here:

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ati-x1600-hp-nc8430-windows-10-igor-lacko

...again from your acquired knowledge, update/install the driver manually. (NOTE: the blogger line item lists manual driver step instructions within his link)

5.) For Built-in iSight & Bluetooth

https://support.apple.com/downloads/bootcamp and again contained in Bootcamp v4.0.4033.

6.) For the latest Intel Chipset drivers

either get your hands on the latest Bootcamp v6 or research your motherboard and CPU and go to the Intel site and download them directly

Similarly to installing Yosemite, your going to want to also disable password login as well as turn off a feature in Windows called "fast start-up" located in the Power Options - System settings.

Thanks a lot for posting these instructions, I just installed Windows 10 64-bit on my 2006 iMac (5,1). I haven't had time to install all the drivers yet, I just wanted to activate Windows 10 using my Windows 7 license before the free activation period is over (July 29th). But so far it does seem to run well with less lag than Mountain Lion/Yosemite.

For anyone installing Windows on a drive with other Mac OS partitions, you might get the error "Windows cannot be installed on to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style". To get past this, I had to move my Mac partitions to the end of my drive so I could create some free space at the beginning of the drive (just after the hidden EFI partition) for the Windows partition. After this, I didn't need to use Bootcamp or do any other extra steps to set up a hybrid GPT/MBR that a lot of sites mention as necessary to dual-boot Windows and Mac OS. This advice is from here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/221003

Also, if you plan to have a partition on your hard drive for data that both Windows and Mac partitions can read/write to, apparently the exFAT format is not reliable. So the FAT32 format is better to use, although it has a 4 GB file size limit. This advice is from here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/179074

I'm not sure if I'm posting under the right section, but is a lot to read and I'm new into the mac world.
I installed Yosemite onto a MacBook 2,1 Mid 2007 (4gb RAM, Intel GMA 950), After the reboot I see their logo and hen I got an error "You're not running this app on the proper environment".
Can you please help me with tis error or some other advice.
If I reboot the mac and go into booting mode and select Lion partition I go back to Lion and I can use it.
Thank you

Hi, I have a Macbook early 2008 (Macbook 4,1) and I installed Yosemite with MacPostFactor. When the update was complete, I had no sound output devices. When I try to change the sound controls it just shows a cancel sign. I have tried many kexts and VooDoo. Please Reply Soon.

Your problem was mentioned already. You need to install kext again.

Read the thread and you'll find the answer.

Do you mean the one with my Graphics card? I did that and no luck. Can you be specific on which kext to install?

1 - Install Kext for your specific graphics card. [It is inside OS X Hacker Files in /Applications

2 - Boot your macbook pressing Command+S
Then type this in terminal:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

3 - Restart normally.

4 - Install the Audio Kext (it's attached here, unzip both files)

Install and Restart.

Have abandoned attempts to get Yosemite on my MacBook Pro 2,2, and have tried to just do Mountain Lion.

MPF 2.0.1 goes through it's routine, and tries to re-boot the system into ML, but ends up in endless cycle after cycle after cycle of attempting to create the recovery partition. I've tried small recovery, large recover, install to Flash drive, turning off all options, and nothing works. Stuck at 10.7.5, but need 10.8 or higher to use my 2,2 to run apps I need for business. The alternative is consigning a perfectly good Mac to the trash heap, because the software has left it behind.

HELP, please.

I have the same problem with ElCapitan. Don't know but maybe it's an issue with MCPF 2.0.1. I am still able to install Yosemite on my MB 3.1 with older version of MCPF (1.0.1 i guess?) everything working like a charm and out of the box. Also after GMA x3100 kext update i am finally able to..see a video playback in Quicktime :D
If you want to check, don't know maybe older version of MPCF will work for you, PM me, i'll upload it somewhere and give a link to you. (If TMRJJ and OSX Hackers will give me a permission to do it of course).
