So for those of you that use a lot of local storage for media, why don't you just get more icloud storage (Cheap) or Google Photos (FREE and cross-platform)??

If you have thousands of pictures, locally, and no backup, that's just stupid.

Is LTE data usage free?

Yeah, me too. I should have done the 256 gb honestly, but if I cancel, my AT&T plan will be screwed up, and I may not get the phone now. So I will just take the 512gb and deal with the extra $$$$.

I think I am going to cancel, upgrade will go back to account after 24 hours and go to Best Buy. They have every config for launch day pickup so will get 256gb

I ordered a 512gb XS Max, and believe it or not, on my 256gb 7+ I have only 20gb free, I like to have my favorite media on my phone, and yes I watch TV Shows on it, sometimes it's fun to change things up. I only buy TV and Movies digitally and through iTunes, so it makes sense for me.

Hey all,

I know a lot of you have decided to preorder a new iPhone in the 512GB configuration. I am curious why you decided to choose that storage level.

For me personally the 128GB model is more than enough. I use Spotify for all of my music, download a generous amount of apps and games, and take thousands of pictures. Even with this I won't even come close to approaching the 128GB storage limit.

I'm just genuinely curious why in the world you would need so much space? It seems like an absurd amount of memory unless you plan on taking tons of 4K videos.

Thanks!
The only iPhone that offers the 128 GB option is the Xr. Both Xs models offer 64GB or 256GB or 512GB

If you can afford, no reason not to .
For those that can not afford one their are numerous giveaways currently running for them.

People who are not ordering the 512GB. Why not?

I've been shooting a lot of 4K video now that I have a Freefly Movi Cinema Robot (It's really fun, look it up on YouTube) and only have about 100 gigs free on my phone after starting to shoot things a couple of months ago.

Also, for those saying to just backup your photos:
1) I do. To Dropbox, iCloud, and Google Photos
2) Google Photos is only unlimited if you allow them to compress your photos. Great as a backup worst case scenario, but not full quality.

I'm thinking about upgrading to 512.. after just thinking about.. I don’t know why I went with 256 to begin with. Granted. I have 126 gigs free on my phone. But I literally have nothing stored on it.. I do use messages in cloud and iCloud photos. Without iCloud managing my storage. I would be screwed! My message database and photo library is 300 gigs.
Add 4K video in the mix! Imagine how horrible it’s going to be to try to stream/download a 30 second 4K video over cellular......
that thought alone may make me upgrade

Wow, that was quick! Never seen it take that fast.

Just left the Apple store in Hong Kong with my dual physical SIM 256GB XS Max. The 512 has more Ram I think but got the 256 as I’m only using 90GB on my X and storage is never an issue. I’ll get another phone in a year or two and maybe I’ll need more space then. Been using the iPhone since v1, have digital photos that go back to 2000. Icloud does a great job at offloaded my library to the cloud so it’s not a storage killer locally. 512 is for someone who needs to keep a lot of media locally... I don’t. 512 is as much as my MacBook has, my phone doesn’t need yet.

Actually 512 GB storage does not have more ram, all have the same ram size.

Well to start I like have space to not have to worry about if I’ll run out while I travel. As a pilot just a few of the apps I use for work/flying use over 100gigs of space. While traveling all across the country and occasionally over to Europe you don’t want to run out of space while documenting your trip and family life. I as others have mentioned would even pick up a 1tb if it was available.

Especially with the ability to edit even more on the newer phone the space will really come in handy.

Oh and I like spending money

Resale difference between Xs Max 256 and Xs Max 512 is around $90AUD

The difference between the 11 Max 256gb and 512gb is $350AUD

I would think that read and write speeds might be faster on a larger SSD. Important in a phone I’m not sure

I would have gotten 512 GB so I’d have a sufficient allotment of space for the 4K videos I’d like to take. But the price jump was one I didn’t feel comfortable making at this time.

If not for wanting to take 4K video, I honestly could get by on 64GB. 128 would be roomy.
In the end I chose 256GB and will use 4K sparingly.

But I think it’s kind of ill conceived for Apple to market so heavily the 4K prowess of this phone and call it “Pro” and then stick it with 512 GB Max when 1TB would be what really is needed to do justice to the capabilities we saw demonstrated for the keynote.

The fact that a lot of laptops and desktops have small storage levels, too, just shows too many full computers are inadequately equipped to keep up with the tech that’s in our immediate futures.

I see a lot of people complaining about unable to record 4K videos on the 64GB model. If you have iCloud enabled it should be fine. I’m doing the same and have had no issues.

On EE it would have been an extra 4 pounds a month to upgrade to 512GB and an extra 50 pounds upfront so not a massive difference but still i know i 256Gb is enough for me...I still have 177GB left now on my 256GB max.

I have 256GB on my X HOWEVER i'm keen on large storage as back in the day with my iPhone 4S I ordered it with 16GB and spent the whole four years fighting with it over lack of storage - not enough for my music, surfing videos or a film. The same thing happened with my first MacBook.

I'm a less is more person with tech. I travel the world and only have two devices - a MacBook and iPhone.
My iPhone is my portable Mac! I love to keep all of my surfing vlogs and films on it, 20 favourite iTunes film in 1080p, loads of inspiring vlogs, favourite music playlists including music videos in it, PDFs of literature that inspires, three iBooks as emergency if I havn't the physical book with me AND photos album including music videos & 4K home video.
I can also AirPlay any of that content to my Apple TV 4K when ever i'm in the country.

Plus I shoot in 4K 60 fps. I never liked iPhones at 30 fps for their video.

As you can see, 256GB suits me well. I'd love 512GB but I can't justify the cost. It makes me feel sick the price of the 256GB iPhone 11 Pro. It's a lot of money for something that is carried around with you outdoors I guess.

Apple are very stingy offering 64GB on the iPhone 11 Pro. Their greed is truly repulsive and I hope that it catches them in time.

I'm with EE but never have any luck getting a decent deal for the XS 256GB. The other week I was quoted at £78 month just for 10GB allowance.
Horrified at the 256GB 11 Pro on EE - 1GB data allowance, £70 per month with £150 upfront phone cost. OUCHHHH!!!!!
Looks like I'll be hanging onto my iPhones for 3+ years in the future and buying SIM only with buying the phone outright which is hard to swallow so maybe I'll just keep my X for the next 10 years.

256GB is plenty for me, but I ordered a 512GB because it was the only model still available at 8:30 Central.

I may try to switch that to 256GB in store, but the last time I did that, it was a pain in the neck because AT&T thought I was trying to activate two new phones on the same line. It took the better part of a day to straighten them out.

And before someone asks why I need the phone on launch day, well, I don’t, but I want the new camera for an event I’m shooting the following week. (See below.)

Preordered 512GB 11 Pro.

Honestly, I don’t know.

My X is 256 and it hovered at ~20GB free for most of this year.

I just realized I don’t take many photos. Hardly any video.

I do like having my music and movie/TV collection with me on local storage though.

I guess some of the reason was that I’d rather part with $200 to have it on release day than wait 2-3 weeks for the 256GB.
