Apparently I’m just the type of person that does not use a lot of storage. I’m only using 33.74 GB of 64 GB. I also pre-ordered the 64 GB Xs Max. I have about 12,000 photos and 500+ videos. I don’t keep movies or music on my phone so there is that. However, I also take full advantage of iCloud storage so maybe that is why I don’t technically need more than 64 GB right now.

Unfortunately we also don’t have the luxury to spend the extra money this year on two 256 GB’s (don’t even get me started on 512 GB) but maybe next year.

I hope all of you enjoy your 512’s. :)

Because the future is hard to predict? Especially with computers:

I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."
Thomas Watson, president of IBM, 1943

At that time with the technology of the period that was likely an accurate statement.

I have a 256GB 8+ and have 30GB free.

I travel a lot internationally, so using cloud services isn’t the best option.

I also like to take many pictures and videos of my travels. The 30GB left will go fairly quick.

512GB Xs Max for me. I backup to iCloud + external hard drive.

That's the reason, I only get the 64 gig,
Yea, sadly I don't like having what Apple has to offer with smaller storage unit. So 256 GB it is for me. Had they offered 128 GB for the iPhone XS/XS Max, I would definitely gone with that instead.

Since that is not what this thread is about, no no it is not more important. Nice job making this about you.
Uhm, okay???

hahahahaha i'm not butthurt... but it's "funny" how just because someone only uses a couple GB on their phone they can't possibly understand why someone would want or need 512. Newsflash... apple wouldn't make it if they didn't think people wanted or needed it!
Yeah, far from butt hurt, and there’s certainly no attitude...

How would you even backup a full 512GB phone?
Easy ... backups only copy unique data. Music and movies and apps don't get backed up, but are downloaded from the cloud. I'm getting a 512GB because my 256GB is frequently full and I need to offload apps. I like carrying a lot of media and games, and buying the extra space is nicer than worrying about disk quotas all the time.

I went with the 256GB... I had the 256GB X, and had 60GB free. Then I went through and deleted apps I didn't use, deleted old podcasts and now I have 200GB free lol. I am sure next time I will get 512GB.

So for those of you that use a lot of local storage for media, why don't you just get more icloud storage (Cheap) or Google Photos (FREE and cross-platform)??

If you have thousands of pictures, locally, and no backup, that's just stupid.

Why do people always assume people with high storage don’t have “backups” lol...

Some people prefer local storage instead or relying on the cloud for storage, whilst having iCloud or other services as a backup solution not storage.

after going through and cleaning up my current storage situation, im using about 46GB on m7 iPhone 7 (out of 128). At first glance I thought I could get away with 64GB for a XS. But im thinking to future proof myself, i need 256. ugh.

i use google photos and apple music, so not a lot of media stored. mainly seems to be apps and their data. 16GB for system though.

I have the 64GB iPhone X and often get close to filling it up, but I’ve never ran out of storage completely. The way I think of it is, what do I possibly need to keep stored on my device at all times? I have my essential apps, some music and a few games. My photos are all stored on iCloud in full quality, until I eventually move them to my external storage at home, but my best photos are always kept on iCloud. I also store all of my photos on Google Photos in a lower quality as it’s free, but it’s a good way to look for an old photo with ease.

If I stop playing a game or no longer need an app, I’ll offload it until I decide I want it later. I’m in a WiFi zone 98% of the time so it’s not a problem.

When I had my 128GB iPhone 7, I felt like I was filling it up with junk just because I could, and never saw a point in deleting anything. My phone ended up becoming massively disorganised and I was glad to start fresh with the X.

I probably would have been okay with 256 again, but I got the 512GB Max because I just decided yesterday to go big instead of the smaller XS I initially preordered. The 512 version was the only one still available in silver for delivery by Friday.

Honestly, though, I'm using a good 2/3 of my available storage now. I use iCloud for a lot of things, but I have like 25,000 photos on my phone. I just prefer not to have to think about it or worry about whether I have enough space available.

I ordered a 512 XS Max. I've got a 256 X now and 'only' have 60 gigs of space left. I've had iPhones since day 1 in 2007 and have 13,000 photos, 1,000 songs, and 1,400 videos on my phone going back nearly a decade. Guess I'm in the minority here but I like to keep/save all my pictures/videos/music on my actual phone and not having to use weird Cloud services to see/access my photos/videos. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Me too!!! I had 20k videos/photos. I had 93gb in the photos app. I went with 256gb though. It's the first time I backed up my iPhone, and transferred all the pictures to a hard drive. I started deleting videos, and pictures from my phone. I now have 67gb being used in the photos app. Want to clean up my phone.

I thought I had a lot. I only used 93gb. :O

Why don’t you use cloud storage?
I do for some things.

But I vastly prefer having my media/data/etc on my device rather than a) depend on adequate network connectivity, and b) deal with the latency differences of searching/etc through remote network stores for my stuff, and c) potential reduction in immediate functionality by not having stuff on device (eg. photo searching); maybe the stuff works like I’d want it too across data on both my device and in iCloud, maybe not, and that uncertainty kinda sucks, and even if/when it does, the latency difference can be frustrating.

I like having access to my stuff all the time, or put better, I don’t want to be in a situation where I want a thing in a timely fashion but I either can’t get to it, or there’s significant latency in doing so. 90% great network coverage isn’t good enough; or at least, for me, it’s not and having stuff on device solves all these issues.
