Hey all,

I know a lot of you have decided to preorder a new iPhone in the 512GB configuration. I am curious why you decided to choose that storage level.

For me personally the 128GB model is more than enough. I use Spotify for all of my music, download a generous amount of apps and games, and take thousands of pictures. Even with this I won't even come close to approaching the 128GB storage limit.

I'm just genuinely curious why in the world you would need so much space? It seems like an absurd amount of memory unless you plan on taking tons of 4K videos.

Thanks!
The iphone is also an iPod. If you have a big music collection this means you sync it all and take it with you, available at all times.

I ordered a 512 XS Max. I've got a 256 X now and 'only' have 60 gigs of space left. I've had iPhones since day 1 in 2007 and have 13,000 photos, 1,000 songs, and 1,400 videos on my phone going back nearly a decade. Guess I'm in the minority here but I like to keep/save all my pictures/videos/music on my actual phone and not having to use weird Cloud services to see/access my photos/videos. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I ordered a 512GB XS Max. I have a 256GB 7 Plus with 40GB available.

I travel a lot and take tons of photos and 4K videos. My Mac Pro has a 1TB SSD and I back up my iPhones to Mac Pro.

Well I had a 256 X and it was 60% full and I wanted extra space since I want to keep this device for 2 years. I like to store all of my music and podcasts and take a lot of pics.

So what.
The should have “rewarded” their customers with nvme storage not ufs and 2 extra gigs of ram.

Ufs over nvme is a cheap move.

Going by your posts sounds like you bought one, hope you didn’t pay full price.

you think a millisecond faster in speed is worth 250 bucks and 2 gigs less of ram? LOL

Well, what can you use an iPhone for? Music, photos, videos, and apps.

Sure, I'm just curious as to what specifically. How many apps can one really have to fill up 512GB? I don't imagine people have 200,000 high res photos downloaded to their iDevice either, so it can't possibly all be images, right? Maybe it is all images? ... the point is, I don't know and I want to find out lol

Personally I got the xs max with 512gb because at least with Verizon it's only 8 dollars per payment more per month so why not, if you can afford any of them you can afford only a few bucks more for something more ready for future needs.....

I agree with you. I like local storage where I can access the information I need without relying on network potential throttling. If I hadn’t paid off my iPhone X with 256GB I would have optioned for the iPhone XS 512GB but not really wanted to go with $45.00 for hardware charge alone. May next round.

So what's interesting is I have a 256 GB iPhone X almost filled, and I'm concerned about data transfer. Now I can't fantom having a 512 GB. For the average person, it would take hours if not days to backup then restore a 512 GB iPhone, considering that it only transfers data to Mac at USB 2.1 speeds and that most people don't have symmetrical 1 Gbps fibre internet connections like I do (and even then, there's no way to reach 1 Gbps speeds on iPhone).
Apple really needs to get its **** together and offer Lightning to Thunderbolt or USB 3.1 at full speeds.

Some people have their entire music collection (CDs, iTunes, maybe even tapes they converted), photos from when the first iPhones came out, and same for apps. Some people hoard. Others take a lot of video or make music in garageband and keep it on there.

I get the top model in vain/vanity... I want the best. Lol. And we can afford it.

As a shareholder you are making me rich, so thank you very much. You truly deserve the best, it's a meaningful thing when we can cater to and serve anybody irrespective of their financial positions. Thank you for keeping the dream alive and healthy!

512 GB is also the first highest storage in the iPhone history. Having it is a pride for all of us who are fortunate to be able to have it.

Jeez dude get a life if you think buying the “most memory ever” is some sort of life achievement.

Don't try to shame him. We're all Apple enthusiasts, at least most of us are, so don't judge him for caring more than you do. Also, maybe he needs the extra space.

I usually get top capacity on all new iPhone but i've only used this much on the 8 Plus. I've gone for 256 on the Xs Max this time.

I can fill it with several movies, tv shows, etc which I can enjoy whenever WiFi or cellular connection is not available or off line

How often do you not have access to Internet?

I have high speed WiFi both at home and at work. If either doesn't work which is rare, I have 4G to fall back on. Buffering isn't even an issues.

The only time I don't have Internet connectivity is when I am flying but then I still have plenty of room to cache a few episodes, movies or playlists from streaming services.
