I have screen artifacts, (see below video), can someone confirm its GPU issue. The LCD glass is cracked. Can this be something like LVDS cable issue?

@rnt0 Do you have similar issue ?
That's not a GPU issue, it is definitely a bad LCD (although the machine still could have a failing GPU as well).

I see similar artifacts on an external monitor, I immediately closed lid after pressing power button(see image below).
Can this be a RAM issue ? as I had to re-seat RAM couple of times, as I was getting continuous chimes on boot.

P.S.- I get chimes on a cold boot, once the board gets hot, I start to see the artifacts.

Also I have connected LAN port and sometimes the MBP comes as connected device. Is it possible to somehow boot into Linux and then get remote to disable GPU ?

I finally resolved it. I booted into systemrescue CD and then SSHed into the MacBook. Then I followed the guide here

I followed the last steps (for archlinux (systemresuceCd ver 6 & greater is based on archlinux)

Then followed the steps to disable csrutil > Nvram change > remove kext. well instructed in this post

Thanks @AppleMacFinder @dosdude1

I noticed that the left Shift key, 7, 8 & 9 keys aren't working, Any ideas why that would be ?

hello,

i'm new here
i have done some 15 and 17inch mbp 2011 gpy bypass but this time i have the same issue as Tomeszek and carlocantaro : artefacts after rebooting : green pixels and impression of multiple images.
if i do a PRAM reset the image is perfect but after rebooting it goes the same.

not due to soldering issue i think as after pram reset all works fine.

so could it be an graphic parameter issue ?? don't know, i will explore that more and tell you.

but if someone find the solution please tell me.

:)

Just flashed my 15" early 2011 MacBook Pro. Worked first time. Also added wire link for battery button screen brightness workaround and this also functions really well. Hopefully this will increase battery hours and cut down the heat. I applied the real mac mods fix previously, which was ok but a bit of a pain when OS was updated, SMC reset etc.

Like others here I look forward to the keyboard functionality being iplemented but big thanks to Collin for figuring out and reverse engineering a solution for this GPU nightmare. Superb job.
Hi! I know this is an old post but can you explain the battery button brightness hack? I can't seem to figure out how connecting MSC_BIL_BUTTON_L to GMUX_VSYNC would help, but from the photos that's what it seems you did. I tried searching but couldn't find any documentation on this

It worked for few days, but now when I power on I am getting continuous boot chimes. What could be wrong ?

I recently flashed my GMux with DosDude's firmware on a 820-2915 machine that I was converted from the hardwired mod ....and it seems that my GMux is no longer functioning properly. Looking for help to get this back to a working firmware, can anyone help me with this?

Normally I have not had an issue with the Demux program but it seems that to go back to fix the firmware after the hardwired mod causes some weird issue with the firmware.

The current situation I'm having is the screen goes full white with a grey apple logo and the screen flashes...then stops and then goes black ...shows the end of the Apple progess bar and then goes black (looks like the backlight is on full, but no image)

Hi, I recently flashed gmux on my mbp15 (with a lot of effort because it would not flash it if I didn't removed the coil) and everything seemed OK until I tried to install bootcamp on this machine. For some reason when I select the windows dvd to startup (from startup boot menu) it gets the selection (pointer stop moving) dvd spin up but it does not go further . I tried also to start an EFI win 10 installation with the same results. Is that a known limitation with gmux flashing? Can I bypass it somehow?

Windows won't work on these machines. Unless u use only the default display drivers. Once u get the hd3000 it will mess up. Search the thread

No bootcamp without discrete GPU.

Hi everyone, my first post here.
First, thanks to @dosdude1 and the macrumors community for all effort to save our MPB.

I flashed gMUX on my MPB and its working fine. I have tried the battery button method to get brightness control working.

After the wiring I cant get the button working (double checked the wiring and solder points)

I missed something ?

Thank you all.

Check the spacing on the pins where you attach the 6 programming cables. I would be siurprised if they are a diufferent spacing
Uhmm. Interesting. They seems to be the same...

@dosdude1 for those of us who performed Option A before Option B come out (and with gmux removed), is there a way to use the battery indcator button to control the brightness by soldering now? Or DyingLight
is still the only option?

Firmware?

Option B would be to re-program the gMux IC (which is simply a Lattice LFXP2 FPGA), with a custom firmware to disable the GPU switching functionality.

I know brightness doesn’t work but it was better the other option. I was running sierra for a long time but the accessing smb shares took to long. High Sierra fixes those problem.

I was using the nvram fix for a while but since that doesn’t work well with high sierra because of sleep. I didn’t want to solder anymore wires.
