Hello everyone. I have a 17" MacBook Pro which is running successfully after removing the R8911. I want to run Final Cut Pro 10.3.4 but it needs High Sierra 10.13.6 whereas I have 10.13.4 installed. If I upgrade, I understand that the EFI will be reset and I might lose the display. What are the steps I need to take in order to safely upgrade High Sierra? I was thinking that if the mac display is lost, I may still be able to boot to the recovery mode and type the commands to change the EFI? Please reply. Thanks!

Of course. I understand that you have it disabled by typing in NVRAM. If you lose it, just boot in single mode and type it again.

DD1 by chance an updated Mojave Patcher to get past the 2020-005/006 & Safari debacle?!

Before then everything ran flawlessly. Since it's a mess. I have been running your Patchers for ages to the point it became a way of life.

It should be patchable with the latest Mojave Patcher version. Just boot off your installer USB drive after completing the update, and apply the post-install patches. EDIT: Just confirmed; re-applying post-install patches after installing the latest Mojave updates does indeed work just fine.

when we upgrade to the newest gmux firmware, i guess we should remove that extra wire for the battery backlight control ?

You can, but you don't have to. It simply won't do anything once the new firmware has been flashed.

just installed the new firmware. works great! now if we only can get bootcamp working on this it will be perfect! for this old but great machine

Someone posted a link to an adapter they now use in order to use a their mbp with an external monitor (after the gpu fix). I thought I bookmarked the post, but didn't. Is it "display link"? Can anyone share the right model, or link to page with the options? Is it just a "usb to hdmi" adapter? I want something that's going to work and is quality.

Edit: I guess it *is* just a 'usb to hdmi' adapter I'm looking for..? So even a decent amazon.ca bought one would do the job?

Thanks.

Yes, any DisplayLink-based USB to HDMI adapter should work. Just keep in mind performance isn't going to be great on the second display, but it will work.

Performance, in terms of what? (Resolution? Lag? What aspect(s)). Is this due to usb 2.0 limitations (speed)?

Thanks very much for your reply. So I understand the screen will be blank when the EFI is reset and I just have to use my instincts in order to boot in recovery mode (CMD+R) and then run the scripts for disabling the AMD GPU ?

Don´t understand. Instincs?

Hi, @dosdude1 just wanted to check if the website is down? I'm getting a 1020 error by cloudflare when I try to visit your site.

EDIT: Seems my IP may have been blacklisted, managed to check the site using HideMyAss proxy.

Has anyone shipped their macbook to you from Asia before?

I haven't had any mail-in repairs from Asia. I'd imagine shipping would probably be pretty expensive.

That's a shame. I tried asking a few places around where I live but none of them do DeMux update and I'm too clumsy to have any success with soldering. Still I did follow your Nvram guide and that solved the problem somewhat save for the heat and power usage which I believe DeMux would address. Thank you for the awesome work!
