Next time Shiller will come up on stage saying: "We made it 15% thinner than the previous one " half the audience should stand, throw him some tomatoes and leave the theatre...

Let's do it...

why? WHY ?

... there was no need to compromise on so many things just because of size and weight. - if somebody wanted that, he could buy a macbook 12 inch or macbook air long time before.

i would have been happy to spend up to eur 3000 on a nice new machine with decent CPU and 16-32GB Ram and 1-2TB SSD. but i refuse spending eur 5000 on that macbook despite it's really, really beautiful. that's simply not enough. i would have to invest too much money for a machine that is performing worse for my daily job, losing many benefits that i highly appreciate now (ssd upgrade, battery replacement, nice keyboard, perfect trackpad without "glassy" feel). ... so weird that my 4 year old mid2012 still feels like the better option, never had this situation in history before (since 1989).

conclusion:
macbook hipster != macbook pro.

Most Pro customers (at least this Pro customer) would prefer more powerful options. I don't care about thin (up to 3/4"). It sits on my desk 90% of the time anyway.
Here it is. You may want a thick semi-portable Mac Pro, because in your mind you're never far from a charger. Other people don't have the same view and need a portable workhorse that lasts for multiple hours without a charger. The latter group most likely outnumbers the former.

What's with all the empty spaces around the battery?

Can't put in a bigger battery? My ***!

Ever heard of airflow?

This is why you are not the target audience. Most people use their laptop 90% on the go. Thinner, lighter, excellent battery life are very important to me. When you travel around the world every pound counts.

Then you are not a professional, you're an enthusiast. I would argue that, ideally, you wouldn't be the target audience. Unfortuantely, with the death of the doctor, the lunatics are running the asylum.

I always removed my armrests when I was a microprocessor designer. Got in the way.

I stand corrected. Are you an Apple Engineer? I love the Apple Watch, but I always felt bad that my MacBook was too fat to wear one. Fit and fashionable I say! People who can't find a seat at Starbucks because I spend all day taking up a table will be so jelly.

Not apple. Exponential, Sun, and AMD. No longer in that business.

If you're really a "pro" you should have both desktop and laptop if 90% of the time you use clamshell mode anyway...

different pro's, different use cases and requirements:
e.g. music producer vs. video editor vs. programmer vs. photographer

how many people need more than 16gb of ram? and of those people how many would use the software that needs it on a mobile computer instead of a very powerful desktop? Likely 32gb is a pretty small minority and if they had upgraded their desktops in the last couple of years it may not be as big of an issue. Does Kaby Lake support LPDDR4? If so perhaps 32gb will come in the next revision

Prioritizing standby time over total RAM is inexplicable on a "Pro" machine.
Since most people don't need 32GB, making everyone else suffer poor battery life makes no sense in a laptop.

Now, if Apple is wrong, and most people DO give a crap about 32GB RAM, then they won't sell enough machines and they will learn their lesson and optimize differently next time. I doubt that will happen.

I bought a 2013 MBP and use it daily in my profession. I believe I most certainly AM the target audience.
What good is portability when the power you need isn't there and you need a dozen dongles following along?

Also, how dare you have an opinion? Get out.

You don't buy a new machine every year? You are clearly NOT the target audience :)

I mean, at this point, it's more economical to buy the top of the line non-surface Windows-based laptop to add on MacOS than to buy the new MBP, even at regular pricing.

Apple doesn't make MacOS drivers for touch screen monitors, so it's pointless.

You can't make one model with 16 GB and another with 32 GB. That's madness. Madness I say!

You make a good point though. I'm going to test how many people in the office actually like diet coke by getting rid of the diet flavor and only stocking regular coke. If your theory is correct then people will choose to not have any soda instead of drinking the sugared flavor.

Or just make the damn thing a bit thicker?
Thickness has never been an issue with my current MBP. It operates on my desk with the top down 90% of the time, and the times I do need it for the road, an extra pound wouldn't kill me.

I use my MBP almost exclusively for to of the office/home use and weight is paramount to me. I have a desktop for my desktop.

I'm absolutely amazed by people that make up random statistics as though they are somehow fact. "Most people"? Would that be 51% or what??? 90% on the go? Not 85% or 70%, but 90%? Don't suppose you have a source to these statistics other than a picture of your butt? ;)
