You ask for C & C... so here goes...

I don't understand why you tilted the camera. I don't understand why more than half the image is occupied by an undistinguished stretch of Tarmac. I don't understand why you chopped off half the casino entrance (top right), but included a bit of railing (bottom left). It's presumably the composition you wanted, as it seems you used a tripod. So I'm

It was set on a bench. I am obviously not a pro. I thought it was a nice picture. In the fall i plan on starting at the university for photography. So im just trying to get as familiar with my camera and learn as much on my own. I visit this thread everyday and most of the pics are awe inspiring. Like with all those butterfly pics, they were amazing. Hopefully after a few classes my posts will be on par with yours and the likes that frequent this thread...

Don't be so defensive. You asked for C & C. If you're going to university, to study photography, be prepared to hear opinions that don't coincide with your own...

And beg, borrow or steal a tripod... :)

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. As the saying goes, be careful what you ask for...

I dont see how i was being defensive, but ok.

Willow pod or flower

A sign of Spring in the interior of Alaska are willow flowers like this one, but the pollen makes a lot of people sneeze;)

Did some more water shots today...here's one, there's another on Flickr.

Love this. Thought I would try it out. I was not as successful as you, but I'll play a little later. Cool thing was I used a Chip bag and you can see some of the letters picked up in the water drop. That site has some interesting ideas for shaking things up a bit.

What I love about digital is taking silly pix that may - or may not - work, without spending $$. Took this today, as a bus intervened, and got a self-portrait I hadn't planned for...

It looks as though the focus is behind the biker. Also, the blown-out sky and strong directional lines and ornamentation of the architecture detract from the subject. Perhaps a more shallow DOF would have helped.

Thanks for the info. I definitely had trouble focusing on the biker (though some in the series were a little better than this). I'm not sure I wanted the focus to be solely on the biker, though, I would have liked equal between him and the architecture. A few questions, though:

When you have a moving subject that is going to flit by your viewfinder in only a second or two, and you don't know their distance, how can you get a sharp focus on just them? It doesn't seem like the AF would work b/c they would be through the area the AF is using in a fraction of a second, even if you could hit it at the perfect time.

When you have a small portion of the sky that is grey and the rest of the picture is fairly dark, how do you keep from having the sky blown-out?

Anyway, thanks for the C&C, sorry it took me so long to get back to the forum. I went to a butterfly house the other day, so I'll be posting some macros for a few days.

C&C still welcome :D

I was trying to get the little guy in flight. Image is cropped by almost half the original size to tighten it on him (though it doesn't seem like that much was cut out).

Ja Di KSW - I like the juxtaposition of the biker against the old architecture. I think it is wild. The image could go for a bit of tweaking though... hope you don't mind my interpretation. I'll remove it if you find it in bad taste. This was done really quickly with PS, without much precision on the mask for the fake DOF.
