Wander this way...

_DSC0313BW-XL.jpg

Hello, Crazyman. I like this a lot. However, would like to know how mush sharpening and contrast have been used.
It is the kind of scene that I sometimes, to good effect, just go a bit over the top.

What do you think?

Regards. Sharkey

I did use a bit more contrast and detail than some shots I've done. I did it more for the feel of the photo than anything.

Looks like a similar artistic technique: 'Hands', in Woodbridge, Suffolk...

hands_woodbridge.jpg

One post takes me back to an old friend in Norfolk and this post takes me back to my old hunting ground in Suffolk.

Have you boys been researching my life history? Creepy!

Just in case, try some of the following.

Panang, Capetown, London, Aldershot, Dereham, South Shields, St Johns-New Brunswick, San Pedro, Norfolk-Virginia, Norway, Sweden, USSR. Just a few to get on with. Obviously, an awful lot left out:). Oh, the NEC (various shows), Royal Albert Hall(concert etc), Burghley, Cowes, Buckingham Palace; oh that will do for now. I look forward to the memories.

Regards. Sharkey

Looks like you have stayed on the controlled side. I would probably have been quite a bit more brutal but slammed for my efforts if I posted it here;).

Lol I don't know if they are made the same. The Kelpies are 18" diameter tubular framed with metal leaf welded on. The hands are lovely. I am so envious of people with that level of creativeness. The Kelpies are just on another level. They are 24 metres high and you can take a tour to go in them.

Here is another angle of them and a photographer on the left giving scale.

Badwater , Death Valley . The white stuff is mostly salt . There's a parking area along the road , had lots of cars in it so I joined them . You can see the area in the picture , look for 2 little specks on the salt WAY back . There were folks walking around on the salt , and a group WAY out . Taking pictures of something . So I joined them .It was salt .....

That is nuts crazy! That is what frustrated me about Utah, I couldnt capture the scale of the place, it was so big it was hard to comprehend. Nice image! that is amazing how vast it is.

Yeah , the size of the place is amazing . I was up on Dante's View a few days back and there was no way you could get the whole thing in , even with a 17-40 full wide . Maybe a 6 or 7 shot pano stitch when I get back . Off to Zion in 15 minutes or so ....

I'm not the guy you quoted, but I plan to stay at the Hotel Finlen at least one night this summer...

Welcome back, John! Hope all is well with you. Definitely PM me and if I'm around and you have the time we can do a walk about with our cameras.

The Kelpies
by another scotsman, on Flickr

100-foot tall statues of mythical horses (kelpies) in memory of those that pulled the barges on the Scottish canals. Built of stainless steel tiles on a tubular framework - I'm not the most artistic person but they certainly have an animated feel to them.

Just realised they look like two best mates in this one. One on the left just hurt himself and the one on the right is being sympathetic like any best mate should be... By p@ssing himself laughing...

Nothing overly fancy, but this is an image I've had on my 'to do list' for a few years now. I've always wanted to get it on film with my Fuji GX617 panoramic film camera, but it would have been a difficult walk lifting that heavy gear with me to the remote and steep hillside location. I opted for my lighter X-T2 setup instead and went for a digital stitch of 4 images to create the 3:1 panoramic format. I think I could get the shot with even better conditions so will be back another day. I'll probably end up lugging the GX617 up there because that sort of vista during golden hour is begging to be shot on Velvia 50. There's also a few things I'd like to improve on.

Anyway, the people sailing past in their boat must have had a lovely view from the sea that night.

That is really nice. I notice a very subtle effect with the lee 0.6 soft grad. I need to play with it a bit more.

EDIT: this is my crap grammar... the noticing of a subtle effect is when I use it not here... :)

You are so right. I find myself in the desert out west and many times there is just no way to capture the scale and/or majesty of a place. There are times when having people in the shot is just necessary but that introduces other issues. Oh well.

How tall are those mountains in the background to the right and in the center if you know. Having grown up in the midwest I think I will always find mountains (and the desert for that matter) fascinating.

That's one of the things that bugged me. The clouds were weird that night but it would appear the Grad has affected it negatively. The joys of hand holding a panoramic panning sequence. Wouldn't have any worries with the GX617.

The fact it's so noticeable makes me want to delete it now.

Dont you dare delete it!

It is a good image. I took a 16 stop filter forma test drive yesterday... crashed and burned... numpty didnt put it in the first slot so got light leakage... then knocked focus out on lens faffing with mount.... so respect for getting an image this good!

inkmich, We are at 5600 feet or almost 1.1 miles or 1700+ meters high. The Pintlers go at about 9-10,000 feet with some smaller ones around 6-7000 feet high

Will do! I REALLY enjoyed that one time I walked around your town. That walk triggered months of research into the amazing mining history there.

Just a quick one from Zion .....

Zion11024.jpg

Pretty much straight out of the camera and resized . Definitely a worthwhile place!!! Even if your knees are shot like mine and can't do any of the steeper hikes . It's real popular , so much so that the parking lots fill up early and you have to park in town . The NPS has a shuttle bus system in the park that works really well , lots of buses , and they drop you off pretty close to where most folks want to go .
