Just a quick one from Zion .....

Zion11024.jpg

Pretty much straight out of the camera and resized . Definitely a worthwhile place!!! Even if your knees are shot like mine and can't do any of the steeper hikes . It's real popular , so much so that the parking lots fill up early and you have to park in town . The NPS has a shuttle bus system in the park that works really well , lots of buses , and they drop you off pretty close to where most folks want to go .

5D2 , 24-105@24 , f9.5@1/180 , ISO 100

Gorgeous. I stood on top of that peak to the right. So worth the sore knees!

That is really nice. I notice a very subtle effect with the lee 0.6 soft grad. I need to play with it a bit more.

Describe the subtle affect for us slow types and what drew you to it? Did knowing the filter was used influence you or was it something that hit you straight away?

Regards. Sharkey

Dont you dare delete it!

It is a good image. I took a 16 stop filter forma test drive yesterday... crashed and burned... numpty didnt put it in the first slot so got light leakage... then knocked focus out on lens faffing with mount.... so respect for getting an image this good!

No but I was a frequent naughty boy dumping washing liquid in the fountain on the main drag on a saturday night... the one on the roundabout outside that hotel whose name escapes me right now

Guess I out age you by a bit then. Don't remember any roundabouts in my day - mined you I didn't drive and was mostly out of my brain on cheap booze:confused::oops::rolleyes:

I'd like to know as well. If it was noticed straight away before knowing which filter was used then I don't feel the image has succeeded. I hate obvious grad lines in my work.

Trust me, out your face on cheap booze is the best way to experience South Shields.. it is a mere shadow of its former self :)

So on the image, it was knowing the filter was used so I went looking for the line where the soft gradation was. I have been playing with the same filter and I am struggling to be wowed by it but in my case it is well and truly user error. I am trying to learn the use of one of these right now and @Mark0 fessed up prematurely... making me look like I have xray vision :)

Mate you fessed up immediately... I was heading in the "I bought one of those and cant see the difference when I use it, please teach me" direction and you fessed up... :) the subtle effect was referring to my using it... in the hands of a numpty like me, subtle is a code word for I cant see the difference... for the record I really like the image. I like the use of DoF to pull the foreground while still maintaining an identifiable back drop. Bravo.

Heh, the more I look at it, the more I dislike it and know I can do better. I'm definitely going back in more favourable conditions to make things right!

OK, but only if you think it is for your reasons... and yours alone, not because I accidentally tweaked a nerve on it... I like it... better then the dross I turn out...

It won't be the first image to get this treatment, and it won't be the last either!

Your work is far from dross btw.

Not even an ear twitch. First post or not that is an impressive image. Oh and you seem to have done a great job in the rescue department; not the easiest of breeds to handle - double impressed.

Very kind but right now I have you on the "aspire to be nearly as good as" list...

Enough with the Bromance you two. Let's get back to picking the hell out of each other's photographs:D

Maybe consider lifting the shadows a tad? To bring out that lovely texture in that stonework?

Thumbs up for rescuing! We had rescue dogs when I was growing up. I like a person who helps out the o es who need it. Good on you.

Cracking picture! Superb first post. Lovely lighting. I spent some time pondering the framing but to be honest I don't think I would change it. I wondered if maybe going in tighter would be better but no, i like the way you have context and the way the sofa frames it. If you went wider to not cut off his backside I think too much of the peace in his face would be hidden and lost in the image. So yeah, pretty much nailed it for me. Nice
