stunningly amazing nightly portrait of an owl !!

----------

It's me. Not sure which Jean Reno you mean. The French actor?

yep, hope it doesn't offend you, but honestly, it's the first guy that came to mind

ref low key, I saw the evolution of your images in this regard, you are making strides. I have yet to experiment with low key photography

eer, one more sharing similar amazement attributes

Thanks Needfx.

That's funny (Jean Reno). Can't say as I've ever heard that resemblance before. I'm sure the wife will get a kick out of hearing it. hehe.

Re: low-key. Yeah. I feel like I learned a thing or two by experimenting and watching some tutorials, but it's certainly a lot harder than they make it out to be. Specially when constrained by surroundings (my living room isn't exactly the best studio, when it comes to lighting, backdrops, etc...) and mosly, not having any available model, so I have to practice on myself (which means a lot of walk back to camera, then back to speedlight, then back to mark, and repeat ad nauseam.)

I'll keep at it.

thanks mate, theme really helps, I just recorded it in this case.

is this still with your Jupiter 8? what do you think of the zeiss jenna 35mm 2.8 (flektogon)? ever tried it?

Don't be so modest, there's definitely some skill in capturing those images, regardless of the subject.

That is still with the Jupiter 8. I'm really enjoying the little bugger. I haven't tried any Zeiss lenses unfortunately.

Comments always welcome.

a delightful landscape capture encapsulating many elements : castle, crops, a greenhouse I think, mountains & clouded sky with an infinite depth of field

in any case, thanks again!

ref the zeiss lens, you will need one of these, and they are pricey for an adapter

Thanks. The greenhouse were some sheeting or poly tunnels over some crops. I actually didn't like them that much as they look unnatural. But as I won't be heading back there any time soon, I had to go with it.

You can get them fairly cheaply actually. I've got a Fotodiox M39 adapter and I think it cost me about a tenner.

even better, but the lens is pricey for an old one. it averages at about 150 euro / 120 quid on ebay, depending on the condition. I have one here I bought for 1/3 the price a few months ago. will post soon some photos

I also recently sold the tamron 80-210 on the left, couldn't really bothered with this lens and it's extender. got the 100mm canon macro anyway

zeiss badly shot on the right //edit// changed zeiss picture // it's a 2.4

Having just trawled eBay for them I see that I did actually consider the Jena but fancied taking a punt on the Jupiters instead as they are Sonnar clones and have a bit of a following as interesting lenses. I couldn't be happier with them. I'm still considering a Jupiter 3 but I've just sold a couple of 50's because I have too many of them :)

How many lenses do you have all together? I have 7 with two of them being completely redundant now (18-55 mm kit lens and 70-300 mm) which I guess I'll trade in next year for a FF body (along with my D300). Then I'll be set for a long time.

a lively image, already faved on flickr since yesterday

is there a flash in this scene? I'm kinda confused by the light/shadow directions

Yes, there's an off camera speedlight just out of frame on the left. On a tripod just about model head height (I know the EXIF says Flash Did Not Fire, but I suspect that may be a function of my camera misreporting Flash when I use my wireless triggers).

yay to me!

off camera flash is never reported on mine either, even though I use canon transmitter & flash guns

I sold two this evening so I currently have:

Fujinon XF 35mm F1.4
Minolta Rokkor 45mm F2
Jupiter 8 50mm F2
Jupiter 11 135mm F4.5
Tamron 70-300mm F4 to F5.6
Industar 50mm F3.5
Vivitar 28mm F2.8 (currently on eBay)
I guess you could also count my Fujinon 23mm F2 on my X100

I would like to add an 18mm Fujinon to that list or a Voigtlander 15mm as I'm missing a nice wide for my XE1.

I just love old manual focus lenses though (particularly rangefinder style ones for their size) so I'm always drawn to new purchases. You get such different results from different lenses.

A modern camera, Sony A6000, and a very old manual Zoom/Macro lens from 83'. Very touchy but managed to get a couple of decent macro shots today. :)
