Very nice. Worth the wait

Thanks AFB. I like it better today now that the itching from the red ant bites has subsided. :)

High key Leopard Gecko today.

Very cool looking Gecko. Nicely done AFB.

Reflections of the past

Well spotted and a great capture Chris. Lots of good stuff going on in this shot. This would look nice hanging on a wall in a simple black frame with white matte.

Whenever there's a narrow band of focus in a pic, my eye goes to see what the photographer decided to 'isolate'. If there's nothing in particular - no 'subject' - I feel kinda disappointed. Just my two-pennorth. :)

As a relative newcomer to this photo stuff I really appreciate the feedback Doylem, especially from someone like yourself. As it happens, believe it or not, the focus on "nothingness" was a deliberate attempt to give (or capture) a sort of bleak, hopeless, post-industrial atmosphere to the scene. Not easy for me to describe succinctly but I imagined something like the vista a drunk with his face on the floor would see after a bottle of Buckie or other such beverage:). Whether or not I managed to get that over in the photo is another thing - it might appear as just a poorly-focussed shot but I'm happy to experiment and benefit from the style and quality of feedback that goes around in this forum. Keep it coming is all I can say - we all learn as a result.

I've attached a more conventional long exposure (30 sec) shot below. Thanks again (seriously).

I think I'd like the angle of the first and the focus of the second. Also given the age of the bridge I might try a B&W.
Of course I know less than most do feel free to ignore!

I think the Buckie theme needs more decay in the foreground interest, more litter and maybe blue skies makes the effect harder to achieve? Just random thoughts... Ignore me

So change of pace from me today. Macro out, telephoto in!
So this was from the same day where they had some owls flying. I found this technically difficult as I've never mastered birds in flight. Anyway more misses than hits, but I'll show you some of my keepers over the next few days.

Comments always appreciated.

Also my high key gecko has made it into Explore on Flickr. Thats two in a month.

Cheers Ken, that'll teach me to try to be an artiste...

Definitely agree about the angle and I have a few B&W treatments that look pretty grotty - will post one in the next day or two.

Absolutely! Although I only speak from what I've heard of the experiences of others...

But either new or use, they claim to have quality babies... wonder why they keep them in a cage?

Me too of course... as an innocent Geordie moving up North even further... the whole Buckfast scene was an eye opener for me.

Made me laugh when I saw an article in a nasty paper about the monks who make it being a bit miffed at being associated with their largest market...

Of course i tried it once as you do... never again... diesel from the car will be the tipple of choice before i try that again! I am sure B&Q sell it in different packaging branded as weedol!!! :)

They're great aren't they. I never shoot RAW even with my A7 and that's mainly because I got so used to the Fuji JPEGs being so good.

They're very good. I used to love editing in LR, but as the years pass, I'm grateful for anything that gets me to the photograph I want in the shortest amount of time (it also forces me to get it right in-camera). When you have JPEGs this good, you gotta use them!

Another vote for Fuji JPEGs!

We've all benefited from Doylem's critique at some point. Incorporate it but never stop trying to be an artiste :)

Been a while since I posted, but crazy busy month. Now enjoying a holiday in Thailand, but couldn't travel without adding a new lens to the kit... Never would have even seen this guy, if I wasn't looking for shots with the new Macro lens, less than half of the fingernail on my finger in size. Early days with this lens, but I love how it makes me look at everything in a whole new way
