It's always sunny south of the M4! Come on down to Dorset, along with the other half a million people. We're going cider farm visiting across the boarder in Somerset on Sunday, judging the comp is going to be 'interesting'

Nice, careful of the Scrumpy... or you'll be judging the comp with one eye closed to stop the double vision! lol...

Nice picture, leading lines onto beach, blurred beach, focused flowers, very good, especially if its your first attempt.
Your dad will be very proud, well done.

I love super wide angle and in the effort to be budget conscious I asked my husband for the Toking version instead. It is not Nikon quality. =( I never use it, and my husband would have bought me whatever lens I asked for anyway.

Welcome aboard. OK, so good entry into the hobby. Commiserations in that you will never be satisfied looking at a picture of yours ever again. There will always be that "i wish I..." aspect to them:)

So my view and bear in mind I am not very good at this so you must feel free to ignore this... understand it is my opinion, nothing more and you have to remember it is easier to edit someones composition later than for them to create it in the first place...

So focus on the fact ALL photos can be improved and this is coaching not putting it down. As it is a picture of the Rosehip, maybe get in closer and square on to a detail of it. You need to focus on a narrower area of interest, be it the berries, the shape of the leaf or the way the light falls on it, make that the most prominent part of your image. You have a leading line in the frame - the fence - careful of those leading the eye out of the picture, by that try not to have any that start mid picture and lead out the way.

Other than that, welcome to the team, get shooting and posting and you will love it.

Ask him for a Noctilux M 0.95.... then I will take it off your hands at "mates rates" :)

I am pretty sure I wouldn't even know what to do with an f/0.95!!!

I schlepped one of my tripods in my checked luggage last week because I wanted to try some of the long exposures of the water to get that ethereal look. Apparently I still need a neutral density filter for this type of shot. The sun was already below the horizon, my settings were ISO 50 and f/22 and I still could not get a long enough exposure to get that really glassy look. Oh well. At least I tried. :)
Regardless of which, you achieved a very nice image, Molly.

I can't recommend highly enough the Hitech Firecrest series of ND filters. They truly are the only ones that don't present a blue or magenta colour cast of some sort or another. You would probably want to start off with the 10 stop version and then if you really wanted nice long exposures without having to go to aperture settings that deteriorate your images you could look at their 13 or 16 stop filters. I have their 10, 13 and 16 stop filters. They are available in both screw-on and square plate formats, I have the ones I mentioned in 77mm screw-ons and also a 16 stop 100mm square plate to use on my tilt-shift lens cause its bulbous at the front and won't accept screw-on filters. I've linked to their screw-on range above in the link.

You can buy much cheaper filters, but you will always have to do post-production work removing colour casts and adding heaps of sharpening to compensate for the cheaper glass used in them.

This is a 5-sec exposure at iso100 and f16 in full daylight using a 10-stop ND. I didn't want the glassy effect but if I did, I would have combined a 10-stop and a 6-stop to get me up to the 5-6 minute mark.

Comments always appreciated.
