So ... somewhere in a fairly remote area of Nevada , off a semi paved road , someone said ' Let's make a Great Wall of Tires ' ....and it came to be . Can't be a fence , there's lots of room between stacks . The tires had to have been brought in from some distance as the nearest town certainly couldn't supply the amount used . The builders obviously had grandiose plans as there are stakes coming off the existing wall at the far end , plus some extra tires .

White Cairn

A 'cairn' of white stones sits randomly on the rugged Rhinns of Galloway coastline. I have no idea who put them there, or why that sport as it doesn't seem like an obvious place for them to be. Someone will know the answer though. If I find out, I'll pass on the information.
I've shot this image before but didn't have as photogenic conditions and I'm pleased with how sharp the image is given the wind that was hitting the camera head on.

It works well with that image. I just really like the square format because it forces me to be more thoughtful and careful with my composition of an image.
Thank you, and thanks for the idea :)

Cheers :)

A row of houses in lead-mining country, with the heather coming into flower...

hurst_cottages.jpg

What I find most interesting about this photograph is all that (apparent) empty space and the houses are built in a row like that attached. I recognize that's the American in me talking as we do like our space. Did the mine have only 10 workers or something? I realize intellectually that this probably wasn't the case and there may be more houses (or was) just out of view but that is what makes the shot for me.
