First, and last selfie @ Ao Sane, Phuket, Thailand

Olympus TG 310....... my first digital camera, picked up for $150 when a shop was clearing old stock. I reckon my next camera will be a similarly water and shock resistant model. Easy to carry and use anywhere; great fun.

– butterflies rising

We had five butterflies emerge today and we released four into the wild (this is one of ours and it is a female). It was really a magical experience and moved me more than I expected it would. The fifth still has some crumpled wings so we are protecting it another night. Parsely seems to have stalled a bit, even though he was the first to go to chrysalis. But we hope he will emerge tomorrow. We believe based on our location that our butterflies will be among the ones that take the long journey to Mexico and we are so happy. In the meantime, we still have more chrysalises and caterpillars to tend to, so stay tuned for more photos the coming weeks. 🙂

Another with the 9mm and Z6 IR. For those of you that have seen my other pics this month, you can see my shed looking tiny (but sharp) in the distance :). In IR, the hyperfocal distance is 1 foot on the lens barrel focus scale @ f/11 (focus in IR isn't the same as with a color sensor). Massive DOF (to be expected with a 9mm lens on a full frame camera). So for this shot, I set focus manually on the lens to 1 foot and then moved slightly forward or backwards until the gate was in focus. The front of the lens was ~6 inches away from the gate.

Looking out of the shearing shed in one of the last vestiges of times gone that remain in this area. In the far distance you can see suburban creep occurring.

I have the local historic society on side with wanting the place protected and acknowledged for its importance of the area and its origins. Now to petition for state and local heritage acknowledgement.

Brings back memories..... but nearly 25 years since I last sheared a sheep.

Check out this youtube channel has some good info that may help in your quest.
It’s not exactly my wheelhouse, but I downloaded your image and edited in Photos with the following settings, eyeballing it for what I think you were going for:
Brilliance: 30
Highlights -60
Shadows 20
Contrast -10
Brightness -10
Blackpoint 10
Warmth 15
Sharpness 25
Definition 20
Vignette -8

I find on images with very bright patches, pulling down the highlights and lifting shadows will give you a better result—it will bring your sky back so long as you didn’t overexpose. I also often reduce contrast just a touch, as the sharpness/clarity/definition sliders can bring back your detail.
Welcome back. Yes looks a bit under exposed to me. What are you editing with? Boosting the shadows might help, or an additional light source.

Thank you! I remade the HDR using Lightroom as one video suggested and applied similar settings to the above. Worked well. And I love how lightroom applies the HDR data and makes it accessible through sliders. Previously I was using Photoshop which generated a flat image. Well, I've already learned a lot being back.

He’s on his way to @Clix Pix to dine on her balcony!

LOL! I'm surprised I haven't had any raccoons on my deck!! We do have them in the area, and they have been known to forage on people's balconies at night, especially in the buildings which are closest to the clumps of trees in the common grounds sections. This is one reason I bring the trays in at night, but of course there is still seed scattered around on the deck, even in spite of my efforts to sweep it up.

A soft, heartfelt moan from across the Big Pond as I view that luscious looking plate of berries!! I absolutely adore raspberries and if I were there, I'd be quickly releasing them from the plate and popping them, one-by-one, into my mouth....

Aside from that, photographically speaking, this is such a pleasing image, with the colors complementing one another: the black background and surface, the white plate, the luscious red berries and the bright green tops of the strawberries. Just lovely!

Cheers @Clix Pix, much appreciated. Glad you like the complementarity and simplicity, that's exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Toyed with a mono version to emphasise the textural differences but it just didn't work for me.

Spot of whipped cream and fresh wife-made scones now...

It’s only a matter of time!

I am hoping that since I am in a lakefront unit with none of the large trees anywhere near my building or my deck that the raccoons will never discover the treasures here. They don't seem to wander around the boardwalk very often. Then again, it sure didn't take long for the squirrels to discover the goodies!
