Hopefully launch tomorrow. Yesterday, major thunderstorms with lightning striking the two towers, which is what they were designed for. Video appears to show arching to the rocket tower so all systems are being evaluated. Repeat of storms forecast beginning around noon today.

Last night's planned smaller two stage Falcon rocket with 54 Starlink satellites lifted off but I didn't stay up as initial time was delayed 80 minutes, lifting off closer to midnight. Tomorrow, while not braving the crowd and traffic for the launch, may get up early and go to a wildlife park that opens at sunrise with great eastern views over the lake and only 20 miles from the launch site. Plus, I know back roads from there and can avoid the post launch traffic jam.

This photo at ground level at scenic overlook pull off (blocked during launches) along access road where prior day photo was slightly elevated at wooden walkway over dunes at first parking lot further down the road.

Nice shot! Have you thought about feeding him? Leaving him food outside or does he finds it on his own?

Thank you! I'm pleased with this shot, as for once I had the right camera in my hands, the right lens mounted on it, and the right settings and my timing/tracking was good. Capturing good BIF (bird in flight) shots isn't as easy as it might appear to be. I had been shooting Alfred as he was standing in the culvert and I briefly swung the camera away to shoot something else, and when I returned realized that he was taking off -- fortunately I was able to acquire focus quickly and track him smoothly, which isn't always the case.

If Alfred landed on my deck I think I'd go into cardiac arrest! LOL! Actually, he eats mostly fish that he prefers fresh out of the water, although occasionally he'll go for frogs and such as well. We used to have quite a nice frog population but through the years it has been decimated, and I suspect that Alfred and his fellow herons are one reason for that.

As for the leaving food outside, I am in a condominium apartment unit, and we are not allowed to have bird feeders and such on our decks/balconies. One summer a couple of years ago I thought, well, it wouldn't hurt to just put out a plate of birdseed for the birdies....and had a lot of fun watching a few sparrows visiting my deck. Then a squirrel joined the party, too, and in a matter of days suddenly I was hosting a gang of sparrows (counted them once and there were about 30!) and several squirrels. It was fun shooting them and some members here will remember those photos that I shared here in the POTD back then.

The neighbors didn't like this and complained among themselves and eventually said something to me because the seeds blew around when it was windy, the birds would also visit their decks and, ahem, leave "souvenirs," and although I wasn't issued a warning by the condo HOA, I realized that, yeah, I shouldn't be putting out food for any wild creatures on my deck, so reluctantly stopped the process. Now occasionally I'll buy a bag of bird seed and sprinkle it out and around in our common grounds grassy area for the birds and squirrels to find.

If I lived in a house with a yard I'd definitely have bird feeders!

You should never feed wildlife. Occasional bird feed is okay, but if wild animals get used to humans giving them food, they are less able to forage/hunt/live on their own, and they also get too comfortable being around humans and then they can wreak havoc on properties, etc. where they think they can come close to houses.

Wildlife is meant to be wild, not tamed.

Excellent shot. Nicely done.
Thank you! Yes, I'm really rather chuffed.....all the stars aligned just right! Ever since I first started shooting photos of Alfred I"ve been striving to get a really good one of him in flight. This is the best so far. It was also rather nice that it happened on a day which was also the first anniversary of the day I brought home the Sony A1. So thoughtful of Alfred to help me celebrate....

Remember when watching the Apollo launch and landing on the moon in '69 on a small black and white tv. This time I can view on a small tablet device in my lap - technology.
