@valdore - Yup, just came back from there on a holiday. Bought a 40D and Sigma 30mm. :D Took lots of photos too.

Thanks swb1192 and dllavaneras

Here's another from HK. It's not that good of a pic, but I just like the character in it. :D

Please feel free to post as many of your Hong Kong photos that you can. I love that city like no other. You must have been in heaven with a nice new camera and nice new lens, with your penchant for street scenes, in a place like Hong Kong.

I've been there once - for a week in March 2006. I stayed in a hostel in Causeway Bay. It was a fairly spontaneous trip for me - in late January 06 I saw an airfare deal for $840 total to get from Kansas City to Hong Kong (via Chicago) and back, and I snatched it up.

Hong Kong is amazing; a great deal of the buildings comprising the everyday built environment of the city look like crap, but when all next to each other in that highly dense environment, it doesn't matter - it's just a fascinating city despite it. One thing I've noticed: HK can really look awful when portrayed from the lens of not-so-skilled photographers. But it looks as amazing as I remember it when the picture-taker knows what he or she is doing. :)

Environmental portrait - Hala Gores

Another one of my b/w series of informal portraits of people in their workplace or favorite afterhours hangout. She is a personal injury attorney who works out of her one-lawyer office in downtown Portland, OR., where this shot was taken. Scanned from workprint.

Can you guess what it is yet?
I had a request for some abstract work, this is one of the pieces i came up with...it's a new tangent for me so feel free to let me know what you think.

Ok, I know this isn't the best picture. I was working with the built-in flash and a work light. I had picked a paper background to play around with and my wife asked if I could do some kind of group shot with all of our animals in it. This was my first attempt at doing something a little different.

Fett, I think your photo is really cute--what a great idea and execution! I especially like the rabbit on the end and how it only appears once with its hay treat. I think your photo is something you could put on a Christmas card (maybe that's just me).

It seems this is one of the photos that people liked the most of the ones I uploaded to Flickr!, tell me what you think.:)

There can be something like an HDR experimentation thread or some sort, but I don't like the idea of having a "HDR photo of the day" thread and a "Non-HDR photo of the day" thread alongside each other.

Hey Martin, I guess I would, but only if Valdore and other frequent HDR posters were up for it. I would be relying on them to make an "HDR 101" or FAQ type of blurb and then be open to commenting on other HDR submissions from those of us (myself included!) who are trying it out for the first time. When those experienced folks weigh in, we'll see if an HDR thread is possible!

simul-post edit: I guess my thought was just a thread on HDR - not an "HDR of the Day" kind of thing.
