Can you tell me what settings you used and size of lens?

I tried taking a shot of our lights hanging over our fireplace and I just blew it. :(

If you click on the photo, it's on Flikr with its EXIF data intact:

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 8
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 21 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Looks like there's a tripod in the reflection of the red ornament. Personally, I'd have used some fill flash to bring the exposure up so the lights weren't so burned in- YMMV.

All that is correct, except the fish in question is not a Sea Robin. Sea Robins are from the Family Triglidae this is a sculpin of some kind, and I can't narrow down the Genus it would be from the Family Cottidae. Of which a few are big enough to be edible and look very much like this ugly fella, yet are quite tasty indeed. Correct Order different Family.

I think I took that sam exact picture 2 days ago... Great shot.

Thank you! It was hard to not stop and take this shot even with the million people around and in the way.

It took me a minute to realize that those red letters on the tower windows were just reflections of Radio City Music Hall across the street....

Wish I was in NYC at Christmas time.

Yeah, RCMH is incredibly bright, hard to not catch the reflections! I'm not a huge fan of NYC, but it's hard to beat around Christmas time.

Fantastic shots, I love the curved lines!

Here's tonight's pic. The sky was incredibly clear, and even in the middle of a well lit parking lot I managed to get this:

"Orion's right there!"

You can see my finger pointing between Saiph and Rigel. I managed to grab 5 constellations and the Pleiades cluster, albeit in another pic (that doesn't have my finger blocking the view :p) You can still see the Pleiades in the upper left side of the pic, Canis Major in the lower right, and almost all of Gemini in the lower left.

Was this during or around the time of the Geminids (Dec 13, 14)? I had my camera out there, and got some decent shots. It's cool to see your choice of a 6 sec shutter at 1600. I was trying for 30 sec at 800. Yours turned out much better, albeit, I'm RIGHT behind the Magic Kingdom, so I had a bit more ambient light to deal with :) Makes me wish I would have messed around a bit more with the settings though!

Still learning!
