Hoping I’m allowed another post today as have just caught a snap with iPhone12P from kitchen window of a sparrow hawk at the bottom of our suburban garden in Edinburgh.

Having second thoughts about having installed the new (baited) bird feeder ;)

I didn’t realize you were overseas; I did read that shipping is really expensive for you guys. ? but I have also read that many back orders are shipping within days so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long. Congratulations. I hope you love it.
I didn't realise that you were either lol! I went to the page and it was in £'s and looking as though it was local. I've re ordered it locally at not much extra. Thank you for the push!! :)

Wow, that's a steep shipping-and-taxes/customs price to have to pay!

Could you have a look at one in the local camera shop, then that way you'll be sure you like it -- also, buying locally makes sense for various reasons anyway -- and then cancel the order from the USA?
Shipping is very expensive from the USA and we only have £15 free of VAT before having to pay it plus whatever they call the fee for dealing with the paperwork. I found a fairly local camera shop that had it on sale for only £15 more than the combined price from the US and even though they're awaiting stock too, I cancelled my first order, which was very easy, and reordered from them. Thought it might be easier if there were any problems in the future. I could have bought one from Amazon for £100 more!

Do enjoy your new glass. And don’t forget to share the results!
I most certainly will, to both! Thank you :)

That is something my extended family has difficult understanding until they went to ship a present to my daughter in Switzerland - despite being advised ahead of time. Of course, shouldn't be surprised as parents couldn't understand time zones when stationed in UK - calling me at 9PM Eastern, 3AM my time. ? Now I have rates a 2, 3, and 4 lbs ($24, $39, $69) and if the package weighs 2lb 1oz, I find more to take it closer to 3 lbs as cheaper than 2 mailings. Worse was, despite relatives getting something at a steal, but not wanting to appear cheap, declare an inflated amount. Declarations above 65CH (approx 65$US) daughter ends up paying Customs duty on her own gift.

Sometimes we order from Amazon DE or FR to save shipping (but technically still imported.) Did you check for the lens on Amazon UK?

Some Adirondack chairs out by the lake, up in Lake Placid. Nice little coat of snow, and I think a pretty good shot. Please let me know what you all think. Definitely was not my best work ever, but it was so cold that I just took a quick picture and called it a day.

Side Note For The Younger Folks: Lake Placid is where the United States hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics (XIII), where the United States shocked the world and beat the #1 ranked USSR in hockey, and went on the win a gold medal. Back then only amateurs could compete in the Olympics, but everyone knew the Russians had professionals on their whole team, where we Americans only had college kids (amateurs) on our team. One of the most amazing sports moments ever!

It all takes a bit of working out sometimes. Like working out whether it’s better to put in two smaller orders to avoid charges but paying more postage. It’s not the VAT, it’s the admin charges on top that are a killer for small orders!

I looked at Amazon for comparison, but they cost £100 more on there than locally! I’m happy about that, I’d rather buy locally if I can.

Absolutely! Amazon don’t need any more of our money.

Sometimes, though, it is the ONLY place one can find something and purchase it. Just today I realized I'm running low on my favorite shower gel and so after I got out of the shower and dressed, first thing I did was to get on the computer, go to Amazon and order more. My local stores used to carry it but they don't any longer. I think it actually is no longer being made at all. Anyway, for something like that I'm happy to have Amazon as a resource. For things that I CAN go to a local shop and buy, yes, I really prefer to do that, and particularly with something expensive that I want to handle and try first if possible. I want to keep our local merchants in business, especially our camera shops!

Well that’s good to hear as I’ll be working in one for the next two days!

To me it is invaluable being able to handle and try out a new camera body one is thinking about purchasing and using, or trying out a lens on the shop's demo camera body in order to decide whether or not that lens is going to be a good addition to one's current photographic repertoire...... Sure, it's easy to order a camera body or lens sight unseen from an online merchant, but to me that is more useful if one already knows exactly what is wanted -- especially a lens -- and doesn't need to try it out first. Discussions with camera shop personnel can be so enlightening and helpful, and of course if someone has a problem with something that they've purchased, being able to go to the shop and discuss the issue with someone at the store is even more helpful. The last time I was at one of our local shops someone was in there being carefully and thoughtfully walked through some process on his recently-purchased new camera that he hadn't been able to figure out at home.... You're not going to get THAT at Amazon!

I've only held one camera in my hands before buying it, and only because I already knew I was buying it so looked at it in the store. Every other camera I've bought has been on features alone. And that one camera was a brand switch; I knew it would perform better than the one it was replacing. At that point I didn't care what it felt like, I just wanted the images from it. And I've only ever tried one lens out first, and that was also because I knew I was going to buy it!

anyway....
