I just got done putting together a brand new portfolio and I am sending it out tomorrow to the Detroit Zoo. I have been trying to get them as a client for the last 6 years and unfortunately I have been unsuccessful thus far. I send them an updated portfolio every 6 months hoping one of two things. That they either will suddenly become so impressed with my work that they change their mind and start using me or that they get so fed up with me sending out my portfolio that they hire me just so I will stop sending it. Anyways I figured I would post something up animal related for a bit of good luck.

good luck with the detroit zoo. What kind of work would you be doing in photography? Photos of the animals for advertising or ? Just curious what it would be like.

Mazatlan - December 08 - more point 'n shoot

More from my point 'n shoot experiment. I only took a couple of cheap point 'n shoot digicams with me on my trip to Mexico. This one was taken with the Sony W120, which is now with my lady friend. I kept the Lumix LZ8. BTW, it was a fun vacation. This is from the place we stayed on Emerald Bay, north of Mazatlan. It could have been 10 degrees (F) warmer for me, but it sure beat Oregon's snow that month (and yesterday...)

Good luck with this! Maybe your picture is a sign of an upcoming birth at Cupertino.... (OSX 10.6 ;))

Thanks! I actually shoot architecture for a living but I like to switch it up with different subject matter from time to time. Photographing for Zoo's can actually entail a whole bunch of different things. Everything from documentary style shooting of births to documenting animals for internal record keeping to advertising and newsletter type shoots. I actually started out taking pictures in the zoo, which is actually fairly common, and to this day its one of my favorite subjects. I do volunteer work at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center so I can have access to the subject matter. Again its just one of my favorite subjects and there is only so much you can do without being able to get behind the scenes.

Don't feel like I'm picking on you, but why has this photo been chosen as your photo of the day.

Usually when someone starts a comment telling someone not to feel something, "but...," it's because the other person probably has a reason to feel just exactly that. Think about it.

I believe this is your second asinine comment regarding my choice of photographs. Your comment such as, "don't feel like I'm picking on you" suggest that you are in your teens or early twenties. The answer to your question is quite simple, I chose that photo because I wanted to! Whether you like the photograph or not doesn't make an iota of difference to me. Instead of wasting your time, find a way to use it in a more productive manner. ;)

I did think about it, that was the reason for stating that at the start. You are not clever for stating the obvious. People on this board, when it relates to their photography, tend to over react to simple questions because they take things so personally.

I believe this is your second asinine comment regarding my choice of photographs.

I think you need to look up the definition of 'asinine' because the description doesn't fit with my first comment. The second comment is infact a question, something which had a warning knowing you would probably over react to any sort of critque regarding your efforts.

Your comment such as, "don't feel like I'm picking on you" suggest that you are in your teens or early twenties.

Wrong. So stop making assumptions about my questioning nature.

The answer to your question is quite simple, I chose that photo because I wanted to! Whether you like the photograph or not doesn't make an iota of difference to me.

It must do because the question was quite simple really, I'm asking, because I see nothing of value and obviously you do. I'm looking for an answer as to why you uploaded it, there is no harm or offense intended for such a question. So stop talking wet.

Instead of wasting your time, find a way to use it in a more productive manner.

Which is what I was doing in the first place, by asking the question. You're turning it into an unproductive exercise because you seem easily offended and have already taken a defensive attitude in front of your work.

I think you need to man up otherwise you're wasting my time be posting asinine images.

Do you think I really owe you an explanation as to why I posted my photograph? I will continue to post photographs at my leisure, my signature will stay the same, unless I choose to change it. The nonsense banter of you or anyone else will not persuade me to conform to YOU!

Maybe your intentions were to offend me, but I'm not offended and there is nothing for me to defend. In closing, have you accomplished anything productive?

There's something dwelling inside of you that you need to release, it's making you a very unhappy person. ;)

Yikes!!

Maybe we should either agree not to critique at all or just make the critiques direct, without the qualifying "I hope you're not offended ..."

We should at least all acknowledge that discussion and critique are legitimate, and we should also be able to rise above our defensiveness to answer questions.

It seems a bit odd to criticize someone else's maturity while simultaneously proclamining "I did it because I wanted to" as the reason for selecting a photo for inclusion on this thread, though, I must say.

I'm going to give the original poster credit for posing a question rather than launching an "attack".

Now I'll go choose a photo.

Do you think I really owe you an explanation as to why I posted my photograph? If you do, then yes sir you are indeed an idiot! Oh by the way I just looked at your profile, your almost 30...yikes! I honestly thought you were a teenager, I do sincerely apologize for that!

But anyway sweetie, I will continue to post photographs at my leisure, my signature will stay the same, unless I choose to change it. The nonsense banter of you or anyone else will not persuade me to conform to YOU!

You don't owe me anything, and I'm not asking you to conform to me, and my intentions weren't to offend. It was just a question.

There's something dwelling inside of you that you need to release, it's making you a very unhappy person. ;)

Again you're reading far too much into this, I'm very happy regardless of my input here.

You might dismiss my comments as banter but when you take a picture of a duck, cropping its tail, and it isn't very sharp, I do have to wonder about your abilities especially when it conflicts with your signature. In other words your imagery isn't very creative. As to the second image, I don't actually see anything of interest in it bar the unrealistic red colours, and again it was just curiosity which provoked me, to ask you the question of why you posted it. You feel it is important enough for others to see by posting it here, so I wanted to know why. Simple.

Also...

Quoted from your website: My main objective is to create a positive learning environment where my students are eager to explore, share ideas, and acquire knowledge. My role as a facilitator will empower students to become responsible for their own independent learning.

Do you see another contradiction here?
