Wherever I hang my hat...
792827307_sstjo-XL.jpg

I like the clouds and the colour in the sky: much easier on the eye, IMO, than the all-or-nothing contrast of brights lights against a black sky. I like the figure too; he seems to be gazing at this magical city, across the water, ablaze with lights.

Of course, when the oil runs out, and we're back to using candles and bartering with beads, pictures like this - showing how much electricity we wasted - will be evidence for the prosecution. It will be salutary to remember just how wasteful we'd become, at the start of the 21st century...

I like this photo as with many of yours this one implies some great things. Even though he is smiling, he holds many levels in him that he has gone through in his life. Well it is like a fine art painting of someone in my opinion and a good one that you captured with him. I'd be interested in how many stories he has to tell…

Thanks Artful. He's a vicar actually...and yes, I imagine he could share a tale or two.

Got to practice some panning yesterday with RC cars. Turned out to be a lot of fun. Might visit the motocross track and practice there...

His sign said "Homeless // 52 // Birthday". And for the record, it has said that for a few weeks. I wish I got the rest of the sign in, but I literally just snapped this shot while waiting for the crosswalk.

This is beautiful with the exception of what appears to be an attempt to push up the saturation in her lips has resulted in her eyes showing to be more red. If that's not the case then the eyes are still too red. I would apply a mask and remove some of the red as it's fairly distracting and draws away from her beautiful blues.

^^^ I like the colors and textures in this one. An awful lot to look at in there. Nice.

Mine: This is up in the Challenge, but I thought I would share the backstory here.

The Nisqually Delta is north of Olympia, Washington where the river flows into Puget Sound. It was diked for farm and pasture land in the 1800s. In 1974, the Delta was designated a National Wildlife Refuge and a project to restore it began. The partners are the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited and the Nisqually Tribe, who are prime landowners. The last of the old dikes was breached last year. The river is now free to do it's thing. The Delta is a hotspot for birders and a wonderful place to visit.

I went shooting with a 3 other friends in this location, and it was interesting to see that we all shot pretty much the same subjects, but our photos came out very different from one another.

I recently discovered Chase Jarvis and have spent the last few days reading through his blog. I downloaded his iphone app Best Camera and have a new found appreciation for my iphone's camera. Here's one of my first shots taken / edited with the app.

Ballybrack Portal Tomb

This Bronze Age portal tomb, dating to 2500BC, stands at the entrance to the appropriately named Cromlech Fields housing estate in Ballybrack, County Dublin. The capstone stands on four stones arranged in two evenly matched pairs.

Not my best shot technically. The cords in the background are quite distracting. I also made the shot from above rather than on her level (but in this specific case I think the rule needed to be broken). Light isn't close to perfect, but with a crazy Ocicat kitten I couldn't really set anything up. Pet shots (like baby shots) are in the eye of the beholder and parents tend to have skewed views of the photogenic potential of their babies. With all those disclaimers, I still like this shot.

My newest cat, Zoe.

I love the way you've got all the focus on her face; everything else recedes into the background. In this particular case I don't find the cords at all distracting; I think they add something as 'props' that tell the story of a brief rest from play.
