I can! Do you ever get further up north? Just saw a piece on Countryfile about shooting red squirrels and red deer in Scotland.
Looks tempting for a few days to try out my new 200-500mm.
You did it then? Bought the lens?
Cheers
Hugh

Funny I'd been looking at gimbal heads. Do you shoot with this on a tripod or monopod for your shots?Thanks...you'll enjoy it. I've heard a lot of good things about that lens.
Btw, remember to use long lens techniques and be patient when starting-out with it. As you know, every lens has it's own personality that takes time to adjust to.
Don't hesitate to jack-up your ISO if necessary. Your D750 can handle ISO 1000 to 1250. And, once the dust settles on this purchase, a gimbal head makes life easier and images better. This is the one I have: http://www.jobu-design.com/Jobu-Heavy-Duty-MK-IV_p_126.html. It's great and less expensive than something like a Wimberley.
Just came across this on my second favourite rumours site. Might give you some inspiration.AH!!!! you got it! nice one.... come on, Lens Pr0n... get a picture of it up here....

(loverly camera and lens choice too )
???Ha ha... i kmow mate, my pal is David Eustace, he did a series called Highland Heart and they are astonishing images. I should get off my backside and go take a road trip as it is on my doorstep.
You are funny... do you sleep with your camera on your bedside cabinet?
???
No, in the lounge ready to grab when I head out the door! Bedside cabinet is covered in charger cables like everyone else!
I'd love to do more travelling, but balancing that with family and work commitments is a bit tricky.David Eustace is a photographer friend of the family. He did some pictures of the West Highland Way called Highland Heart and they are beautiful thougn his style is a little muted compared to my typical processing.
Yeah charger cables and my camera on mine.... nerd alert!
So are you going to try and get up here at some point to see the highlands? Best in the spring when the Heather appears. Bit bleak between now and spring. Looking forward to seeing some images from the new lens.

I travelled a lot this year for me. But yes I have a lot of places I'd like to head to.

Brings back memories - I did the West Highland Way back in 1980....IMHO the best time for the west coast is mid- to late- May. Likely to be as dry as it gets and more importantly it is before the midge season begins!

They sell gimbals for monopods but I couldn't see how that would work. I've never really got ton on with my monopod. It's generally either hand held or my three way tripod. If moving about a lot, I'll use a monopod or hand-hold. When stationary and staking-out something like the Titmouse, I'll use a tripod with gimbal. I only use the gimbal on the tripod...you need a steady base for it.
