Over near Boulder, Colorado this morning. The vantage point is a location called Table Mesa and it sits up against the Flatirons and maybe an image of those later. But in any case, one of the best jobs I ever had was for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (associated with NOAA) and I was able to get time on their Cray supercomputer. Now we carry computers like it in our pockets :). The lab is up on Table Mesa. A great place to work!

Cray? Ee, luxury. We thought we were doing well getting overnight batch job time on PDP-11 and VAX11/780‘s when I went to uni....?

The opposite view from yesterday. An 1876 Cow Camp. At that time there were more cattle than people in Florida, and a cow camp was a remote rest area, typically overnight, supporting cattle drives. At that time, Florida...even more than Texas, was known for it's cattle (and citrus) industry as it supplied the nation. Fast forward to today, and the largest landowner in the State is a ranch.

Turning around from the view I posted yesterday, you can see the Mesa Laboratories building that was part of the government group where I used to work in the late 80s and early 90s. I.M. Pei was the architect. Alas, this was not my main office building but I was privileged to spend a fair bit of time there on various projects. The hiking around there is fantastic and in the background, you can see a partial view of "The Flatirons".
