Sweet shot. Even the ski rope blends in nicely with your composition rather than distracting from it. :)

Macy's 4th of July Fireworks over the East River with three NYPD officers in the foreground. There were so many people jammed on to the highway (closed off for spectating) that it was difficult to keep my tripod steady. People still filled the highway as if it were a block party despite the fact that it was raining as well. Macy's advertises their fireworks show as being the largest in America with 35,500 shells in total and an average of 1,100 shells per minute.

Dammit Martin C, how did you get so good!!!! Your flickr is incredible by the way. If you have any photography tips for this lowly peon, I'd love to have them :D You're the best photographer on this forum!
Thanks so much. There's not much I can say as I don't have much experience--I'm only a high schooler--but I think that I can speak for everyone here when I say that we are all still learning. Heck, even professionals learn new things. I've only had my camera for a little over a year and I've vastly improved just from practicing. Not every shot one takes is going to be amazing. I find myself happy with one or two good shots after some shooting. Ansel Adams has a great quote about this: "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop." Sometimes when I'm dry for ideas, I look at other people's work for inspiration and then put my own twist on it. I always try to go into a day of shooting by a motto of not taking the same, pedestrian pictures as everyone else is, but looking for shots with originality and new perspectives.

NASA picture on "Aussie Day", Jan 26, 2008 ... that is a comet right there in the top / middle !!

( This post breaks several rules: 1) Its not mine, 2) Its too old, 3) I have never been there, 4) I don't even know how she did it ... But is such an amazing shot, that, well ... )

Several from walk about of July 4 in Sausalito

Why are the sailboats all in port? ... winds to 30 knots (small craft warnings) and 56 degrees F. ... shiver me timbers, that's not short short weather on deck. Downtown Sausalito temp above 85 degrees F. ( More at http://glassbus.com/July4/ ). Using a new Kodak Z8612 = I'm a newbe to photography, so all settings are to "auto".

As Father Jack points out ... the best outdoor shots have lots of clouds ... not too many here.

Haven't posted in here in a massively long time. Here's one I took last night at the New England Summer Nationals in Worcester, MA:

Fireworks anyone? Who had a great time? I read in our local paper that a 26 minute fireworks show costs $25,000. I guess that is why we lowered the time of shows, seeing that way back in the day they would have one hour shows. Its so expensive, even though the local foundry makes fireworks for a New York company. We're in VA....:p Here's one of my tries at getting a good fireworks shot. C&C always accepted and appreciated!

Fireworks tend to be let off when the conditions are best for spectators... rather than photographers. So one explosion of sparks in a black sky can look pretty much like another. Which is fine... to a point.

Pix can look so much more intertesting, IMO, when the fireworks are in some kind of context... like this shot (not mine...) of new year celebrations in Sydney harbour, where there's enough ambient light to create a wonderful spectacle. A shot like this obviously needs a fair bit of planning and an elevated viewpoint.
