Really really like this Collier series.

How are you doing the framing on them? it really frames them nicely - sorry for pun!
Cheers Ken, much appreciated.

Despite a general dislike (perhaps that's too strong) for using presets, the post was done using NIK Silver Effex Film Noir preset - works well for this series of pictures and gives a reasonably uniform appearance across the series. The only bit that I couldn't do as well or better in CO is the framing/edging.

The technicalities are in the title.

Great use of shallow DOF - a bit more dreamy than many of your portraits (simple observation).

Here is mine for today and a request.

I have been trying some new processing techniques. On the whole I like the effects but I think I have over done it on this one. Do you guys think the colours are too cartoon like on this one?

I like the sky but the rest of it doesn't really do it for me I'm afraid Ken. A bit too saturated for my taste.

Posted something similar in the past. Went back today, this time with an 18mm lens. Something about this abandoned house strikes me every time I drive by (which isn't that often).

I think you need to trespass a bit if you are going to get the full effect on this one :) 18mm is begging for up close and personal!

I Agree Kenoh, come on Kallisti, we need to know if Ish's aversion to wallpaper is all inclusive, or period specific to run down abandoned properties hehe .. Could potentially be some interesting shots if there was a way in there....

speaking of which, another from the dump.. modern cooking for the 1920's

This is my first post here on macrumors. I've been wanting to do this for awhile, and I figure now is a good time. I took this photo a few days ago after a stormy evening. I have this vertical oriented photo and a few horizontal ones. I like this vertical one because (to me) it gives a huge sense of scale.

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T3i
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
ISO: 100, Focal Length: 18mm, Shutter Speed: 1/125, Aperture: 7.1

This was with the Program Auto setting, with white balance set to daylight, and using the Auto Enhance in Photos (slightly brightened the scene).

Wow! Nice first post! That is beautiful. Very nice.

Hugh's shots with the takumar lens sucked me into getting one, the 50mm 1.4, and here are a few of first shots. These were taken at f1.4 which I was then going to compare against the canon 1.4 but before I could get to the canon lens it started raining. They are of the garden day lilies and begonias with no post processing so they are a bit under exposed. I think the takumar is a bit softer and the depth of field a bit shallower than the canon 1.4.

Glad you took the plunge and began posting! Lovely sunset image.

Thanks for the compliment; I love my Takumar 55mm 1.8 - it's sharp as anything wide open, and the colours and contrast are great. I keep experimenting with other lenses but I think this is the best so far.

From your lovely pics above I reckon you're finding the same :)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Macro shot of a fly in the garden this evening. It was only a few mm long and it was really windy so I'm surprised it turned out this well.

Sony A7 with Sony FE28-70mm and extension tubes @70mm, F9, 1/80, ISO 200 with flash @1/4 power.
Very nice. Getting focus right with extension tubes on a windy day is impressive.

Thanks. More impressive was me editing it whilst shuddering and being totally creeped out for the whole two minutes. Remember the whole insect phobia thing.....
Probably don't want to look at my photos next week. Just in the process of editing some butterfly shots.
I'm sure Mrs MacRy will hold your hand!
